Is anyone else struggling to sleep in this heat?

For the fourth night running I’ve woken up in the middle of the night boiling hot and covered in sweat. The upstairs of my house feels like an oven, and I can actually feel the heat hit me when I get to the top of the stairs. I’ve tried everything, keeping the windows and curtains shut during the day and then opening them when the sun goes down, I’ve tried leaving the upstairs windows open to let air circulate . I’ve tried sleeping naked, I’ve slept on top of the covers, I’ve got my fan on all night. Nothing works. I’ve never known heat like this. It’s feel so oppressive and it usually doesn’t bother me as much, but I’m so tired from not getting enough sleep. How are you supposed to sleep in this weather?

Yes, keep waking up then can't fall asleep.
2 or 3 more nights people

Barely slept a wink last night. I ended up giving up and taking the dog out for a walk at 4.15 this morning. It was lovely and refreshing (I’m out in the sticks) but the heat slapped me in the face when I walked back into the house. Ended up dozing on the sofa downstairs and did have a dream so at least I managed a bit of REM sleep. Still feel a bit shite this morning though.

Tonight I’m planning to sleep downstairs on an airbed from the beginning, and to take another small hours walk if needed.

Tbh I have been sleeping really well, odd. It's only a couple more days then it will be back to dreary midness.

Good! I’ll be able to start taking the dog running again 😂

Was slightly cooler but not much and was still awake for what seemed like hours. One of my neighbours has told me that she has been sleeping in her garden on patio furniture for the last few nights.

My husband fixed a ceiling fan up in the bedroom earlier this year. It has been a saviour. I hate this weather! Did all my chores earlier, and am now lying on the bed with the fan on!

Yes and I'm pretty sure the heat makes me have nightmares too 😣 But I have to have a blanket covering me, don't like just a sheet.

Oooh me too, I was having awful nightmares last night

Hmm I considered similar but had visions of waking up with a slug on my face so decided against it.

I don’t find patio furniture that comfortable really. You’re also really exposed. I think if I had tent I’d sleep in that though.

If you are an arachnophobe I wouldn't leave the loft hatch open. Just my experience though.

Is there a word for mice phobias? Because that's usually my first thought when people talk about having loft hatches open at night when mice are active!

Slightly cooler night last night and managed to get a good nights sleep at last!

@KMA2023

Same I wouldn't open mine at this time of year but have you actually had spiders come down

KnittedJimmyChoos · 10/09/2023 10:53

Well done op

Spudlet · 10/09/2023 11:34

Took the airbed downstairs last night and got a much better night. Also pinched a couple of drops of DH’s CBD oil… seemed to work!

KMA2023 · 10/09/2023 13:36

@KnittedJimmyChoos

Unfortunately yes and it was the ugliest spider I have ever seen. We spray the hatch with eucalyptus and peppermint oil now along with all doors and windows.
It really makes a difference.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 10/09/2023 13:37

@KMA2023 I'm over invested in your hatch spider

So it wasn't necessary large just ugly?

KMA2023 · 10/09/2023 15:58

@KnittedJimmyChoos
Haha it was huge and looked like it came from the crypt.
Sadly, I had to splat it. Couldn't live in the same house as me.

KnittedJimmyChoos · 10/09/2023 16:01

Oh god 😱

xyz111 · 10/09/2023 16:18

Hot water bottle in the freezer. Absolute game changer!!! Don't use it in the winter though as the freezer affects the rubber.

StBrides · 10/09/2023 16:22

I put a hot water bottle in the freezer in the morning then take it to bed - works brilliantly

Cozytoesandtoast00 · 10/09/2023 16:28

The lack of sleep when's it's hot seriously impacts my mood and energy so much.
I can't sleep so don't for a run, make bad food choices and generally feel a bit shit!
