If someone asks for the time, and it’s 9.50/21.50 it’s customary to say “it’s cowboy time” cos it’s..ten to ten

Have you the key?
I've got the key, I've got the secret 😬
Even my 10 year old joins in with that one now.

RubiesandRose · 08/09/2023 10:44

@AlphaAlpha we do exactly the same!

Soubriquet · 08/09/2023 14:12

Never heard that one before

When somebody mentions what time somebody got home, somebody else will repeat it in disbelief in the style of Father Noel from Father Ted.

"We didn't get in till half 11 last night"

"HALF PAAAST THE ELEVEN!!!"

AffIt · 08/09/2023 14:48

If somebody is going somewhere or doing something around about 10am/pm, it is obligatory to say in a Sean Connery accent, 'Ten-ish? But I don't even have a racquet!'.

I have no idea why.

Yachts are are also called 'yach-etts' and a pleasing view / scene is 'pitcher-esk-yew'.

If some says “in an hour” we say “in an haaaaaaaaaaaa” like Lady Campanula Tottington in The Curse of the Ware Rabbit.

I did see someone on here has her name as their username and I said “In an haaaaaaaaaaaa” to my phone 😂

PurpleChrayne · 08/09/2023 14:52

Anytime football is mentioned, either DH or I will sing "kicking footballs in America... going crazy with support for the lads" from Stath Lets Flats.

And if one of us says we don't like something, the other says "I don't like that one slice" in a West Country accent, from This Country.

Serenity45 · 08/09/2023 14:53

when asked how long something will be, the answer is "2 minutes Turkish" (or whatever minutes it will take.

We do the "I've got the secret" one for keys too!

Adding "on the whole" every time we tell the dog she's a "good girl" (we feel it's more honest Grin)

DH always puts my soft drink in the freezer when prepping a meal if he's cooking as he knows I like it super chilled. Probs a bit weird but...

Try to run the vacuum over the dog when we're cleaning sometimes to save brushing her (she doesn't mind and she does get brushed!)

Keep a little row of tennis balls by the kitchen sink in our otherwise very clean / tidy space...we always give them a rinse after park / garden and just leave them there until needed

OMG. I never imagined anyone other that DH did this. He even does it to strangers in public too, as in
Receptionist ‘is 9:50 okay for your next appointment Mr Sounds?’
DH ‘cowboy time? That will be fine’

Hahaha this has reminded me of another one - an hour is always "A Owl" as per the TV show Phoneshop

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the Ten to Ten thing? 😳

Tonight1 · 08/09/2023 18:19

We do the Waltons when we go to bed and say night John-boy, night Mary-Ellen. Yes we're daft.

RyanGoslingsTan · 08/09/2023 18:25

It sounds like a galloping horse. Ten to ten, ten to ten, ten to ten ten ten 🤣😂🤣

No,I don't get it either.

Child of the 70’s.
Ten to ten to ten to ten, it’s how we sang along to the galloping music on cowboy & Indian films as kids. Odd to think that in a few decades no one will get this!

Blimey. Every days a school day! I was born in 1975

BakedTattie · 08/09/2023 19:58

We pretty much live our lives by music lyrics/tv show/movie quotes.

one of my faves is ‘don’t go to sleep on a ornament’ my husband said it to me after an argument one night and it turns out he miss heard the lyrics from savage gardens affirmation “I believe the sun should never set upon an argument”. He heard it as ornament. 😂

"Let me just Sally that for you". It means check the traffic app to see whether/where the delays are and therefore which way to go. Named after Sally Traffic on Radio 2.

9.50 is Cowboy Time, 2.30 is Dentist O'clock and 8.08 is Bob.

My last dental appointment was at tooth hurty. I was beside myself with delight.

Greg James does this on Radio One every morning at, well, ten to ten. It's definitely a thing!

MsVestibule · 09/09/2023 17:16

Another one for the Father Ted fans.

Every time I'm about to make a cup of tea:
Me to DH - what would you say to a nice cup of tea?
DH - feck off cup.
YY to tooth hurty, ten to ten, I've got the key. Pretty much all if it, really.

Whatisthis99 · 09/09/2023 17:25

I have no idea where its come from but if we dont like somthing, an item, food, behaviour ( in the house ) me and the kids scrunch up our noses and say in a really posh voice "take it away" while gesturing with a hand 😂

morelippy · 09/09/2023 17:29

9.50 is Lone Ranger time here
4.55 is Crackerjack time (not just Fridays)

Ah! The overture to William Tell. Was it the theme to the Robin Hood from the early 1960s?
