I bought some reduced-price cauliflower and broccoli florets this morning so I've made a bake with it by adding pasta and cheese sauce. Might have it with some slices of the gammon joint leftover from yesterday.

Pasta bake £1.25 per serving
plus approx 50p per serving of gammon.

Entirely coincidental. I am cooking roast broccoli and cauliflower florets with dill, roasted chickpeas with sweet smoked paprika, and roast sweet potato slices, served with a crème fraiche/tahini/lemon dip. I think the cost of the ingredients is about £3 though obviously a jar of tahini is an expensive initial purchase, and it won’t fit in the air fryer so I need to run the oven for an hour. But

I’m making a curry with rice and naans. It’ll feed four of us and I’ve just tallied up the cost…it’s coming to about £13 and I’m really surprised such a bog standard mid week meal is costing so much 😳

Covidiokilledtheradiostar · 07/09/2023 15:21

totally coincidentally but my Dc have requested broccoli and cauliflower Mac & cheese. One of our faves in this house not 100% sure on cost but roughly £1.50 pp for the bake (including the flour, butter and cheese for the sauce)

We are having steak with blue cheese sauce and green beans and wedges. The steak has been in the freezer for ages so I'm not going to include that in the price. The only thing I bought for it were beans and blue cheese probably about £3-4 in total. Bottle of red we already have in too.

Theraffarian · 07/09/2023 15:23

Salmon , salad and rice for two , cost £7. I’m cheating with a sachet of microwave flavoured rice tonight as I’ve got a workman in and I suspect he will still be here past normal dinner time .

NotFastButFurious · 07/09/2023 15:23

lasagne (ready made), salad and garlic bread. not a clue on cost as it was brought as part of the weekly shop

peanutcrumble · 07/09/2023 15:24

Takeaway. Too hot to cook 😅

1AnotherOne · 07/09/2023 15:25

Tesco finest chicken kievs £4, crispy potato slices £2, asparagus £2. So £8 total making it £4 per portion.

MysteriousShopper · 07/09/2023 15:26

Lots of cauliflower and broccoli tonight!

Beef ragu from the slow cooker, on sweet potato wedges with broccoli

littlewren34 · 07/09/2023 15:27

Tonight I am doing a Risotto with asparagus, petit pois, mint and lemon. It will cost about £2.50 a portion.

Malariahilaria · 07/09/2023 15:31

Butter chicken, pilau rice and naan. Cost about £12 but there may be leftovers.

Iamlikesorry · 07/09/2023 15:36

Cottage pie, with the topping made from cauliflower cheese left from the roast on sunday, plus left over cooked veg, carrots, leeks and broccoli!

Just got to buy the mince and some onions - about £6 for 6 portions?

StaunchMomma · 07/09/2023 15:37

Thai green curry with lots of veggies and rice.

I use the frozen spice paste lollies from Ocado. No idea how much they were, they've been in the freezer for months. You just fry one off for a few mins then add coconut milk.

Really quite delicious.

MidgesGirdle · 07/09/2023 15:39

We're having slow cooker chicken curry, with filleted chicken thighs, rice, poppadoms, chutney and pickle. I suppose it's about £1-£2 per portion? Would have been cheaper if using bone-in thighs filleted myself, but I'd have lost half the meat trying so this was the easier and more frugal option ironically.

Kinsters · 07/09/2023 15:40

We had pizza with bacon, tomatoes and spinach as the toppings. It came to roughly £5 for two adults and two toddlers. There's enough left for mine and the children's lunch tomorrow too. The cheese was the biggest part of the cost.

mrsm43s · 07/09/2023 15:50

We're having spinach and ricotta cannelloni.

Not sure how much it is costing - as an estimate
About 1/3 of a pack frozen chopped spinach - 50p
Tub of ricotta - £1.50
Half a pack of dried cannelloni - 75p
Passata - 50p
Store cupboard stuff like herbs/garlic/an egg - 50p

£3.75 for 4 people (probably plus leftovers)

Kezhoust2586 · 07/09/2023 15:51

Good old cheesy beans on toast tonight. Too hot to cook, plus being 32 weeks pregnant, it's a winner as a light meal 😊

Nellieinthebarn · 07/09/2023 15:56

Its too bloody hot to cook, I have bought a baguette and a jar of pickled onions we are having cheese and ham ploughmans for dinner.

I had the cheese, ham, salad and branston in already, so its not an expensive option, especially as my lovely neighbour has given me homegrown tomatoes.

Before this change of menu I was going to do ham cheese and mushroom tagliatelle. Also quite cheap.

Nowhoopie · 07/09/2023 16:12

Probably a packet of super noodles cus I absolutely can't be arsed 😂

LindorDoubleChoc · 07/09/2023 16:21

Some griled coriander and garlic butter prawns with coconut, coriander and lime jasmine rice and a cucumber, spring onion, sesame and soy salad. I'm guessing about £6 to £7 per portion.

Ah your dinner sounds as luxurious as your username!

YourNameGoesHere · 07/09/2023 16:23

Chicken and rice wraps with salad - it's too fucking hot do much else.

It's come in at a whopping £3.07 which isn't too shabby.

Lovemusic82 · 07/09/2023 16:27

I am liking the sound of cheesy beans in toast.
I haven’t really thought about what we are having yet. Have mainly been living in runner beans for the last month (free). I do have a steak in the fridge but it’s way too hot to think about cooking.
