I bought some reduced-price cauliflower and broccoli florets this morning so I've made a bake with it by adding pasta and cheese sauce. Might have it with some slices of the gammon joint leftover from yesterday.

Pasta bake £1.25 per serving
plus approx 50p per serving of gammon.

Tinned tomatoes 50p per can and rice 11p per portion so 22p per meal for two.

Lakeyloo · 07/09/2023 17:11

I'm going to try the honey soy salmon from Poppy O'Toole's new air fryer cookbook this evening. OH is away (won't eat fish unless its disguised in batter or is a fish finger). Salmon was £4.48 for 2 fillets from Asda so £2.24 as one will go in the freezer for another day. Can't even be bothered to work out how much one portion of jasmine rice from a big bag will cost ! Will probably do either roasted cherry tomatoes, courgettes and garlic or some tenderstem broccoli to go with it...all from the allotment so kind of free (apart from the blood, sweat and tears).

Spanish omelette with chorizo, sliced new potatoes, peppers and onion , with salad. Difficult to work out the price, eggs were free from MIL but if she were to sell them for what it costs to keep her very pampered rescue hens I wouldn't like to think how much they'd cost.
Splash of milk negligible, onion about 8p, pepper grown in the garden or 55p from a shop , chorizo half a ring £1, cheese about 75p worth I guestimate, potatoes 20p, salad cucumber , cherry tomatoes, radishes, lettuce and rocket all from the garden so I see them as free but DH points out how much money we spend on the garden and he's probably right, greengrocer would likely be cheaper... will serve two adults and DS and all of us for lunch tomorrow. Shop prices I think about £6/7 ish?

Leftovers of a veggie pasta dish my DH cooked earlier in the week. Lots of different types of mushrooms in it. It probably costs £3-4 a portion.

NonMiDispiace · 07/09/2023 17:16

We finished off the fresh crab I bought yesterday (£7.50 ), big green salad (£1?), new potatoes (50p) and crusty bread roll (70p )
Crab is extravagant but I couldn’t resist it, utterly delicious 😋

AdoraBell · 07/09/2023 17:18

I love crab but do to allergies I’m to one who can eat it so no point buying unless I’m a restaurant.

DominoRules · 07/09/2023 17:19

I’m doing a roast chicken in a harissa/butter type marinade, with flatbreads and salad bits, houmous, halloumi - I think probably £16 all in

TribeD · 07/09/2023 17:33

We're having a "clear the fridge" tea, ready for the shopping at the weekend. So Jacket Potatoes (50p) Cheese (£1.25) Coleslaw (90p) and Chicken Goujons (£3.00) comes in at £5.65 or £1.89 each

DiscoBeat · 07/09/2023 17:42

I have no idea of cost but tonight we're having tenderloin pork stroganoff, white and wild rice and broccoli, strawberries and cream. Lunch was leftover dal and home baked bread.

sezzer87 · 07/09/2023 17:43

Chicken and bacon pasta with sweetcorn and spring onion.

Pasta 58p
Sweetcorn 10p
Chicken (left overs) £2
Bacon £2
Spring onions 75p
Jar of mayonnaise 60p
Salt pepper and squeeze of lemon

£6.03 and will do 5 of us plus 2 for lunch tomorrow.

Gahhhhereheisagain · 07/09/2023 17:43

Pesto pasta with frozen peas! About 50p a serving, 60p with cheese

CrispsnDips · 07/09/2023 17:48

Quiche (for two of us) £4:50
Pasties (for two of us) £1:50
Salad (£1)

Too hot for hot food but quiche warmed up a little as it’s much nicer than cold

DinnaeFashYersel · 07/09/2023 17:50

Spag Bol. I don't know why it cost. Not much.

TheDogthatDug · 07/09/2023 17:51

Cream of chicken soup. £ 8.23 for ingredients, including crusty bread. Will do at least 8 large portions.

IHeartGeneHunt · 07/09/2023 17:54

Plain scone with cheese and an apple. About 80p including the flour and margarine. (Aldi flour, trex margarine)

I made this a couple of days ago, it made 6 portions if you had it with bread etc. I had to order the chana daal but I had everything else in. Today I had it with posh sourdough and then fresh fruit so definitely not cheap today. Daals are generally very economical.

Try this version of chanay ki daal for a taste of the street-food stalls of Lahore in Pakistan – black cardamom helps mimic a coal-smoked taste

Waitrose easy to cook chicken schnitzel with Middle Eastern spices on a flatbread with salad and hummus. Probably £3.50 a head.

countdowntonap · 07/09/2023 18:03

Tuna poke for two.
Tuna - £2.85
Rice - £1
cucumber - £0.27
avocado - £0.79
ginger - £0.50
pickled pink onion £0.33
wasabi - £0.25
=£5.99 total
so £3 per portion

motherofawhirlwind · 07/09/2023 18:05

Spag Bog - £4.86 for 4 portions

LookingForPurpose · 07/09/2023 18:09

I've done a huge batch of liver, sausage, bacon and mushroom casserole.

Liver £2
Sausages £1.50
Mushrooms £1
Carrots 50p
Left over frozen peas and onions

Spuds for mash £1.50

So £6.50 but feeds 6 adults so £1.08 per portion?

ScribblingPixie · 07/09/2023 18:32

I absolutely can't be bothered to go to the shop in the heat so I've raided the dog's shelf! I'm using her chicken breast plus her cheap rice and carrot to make a sort of pilaff with red onion, stock and cinnamon. And I'll have it with courgettes. I estimate the cost at about £2 for me and DH - £1 a portion.

tt9 · 07/09/2023 18:34

being cheeky today as I couldn't be bothered to cook. pack of batchelors supernoodles - added pak choi, carrots, onion, stock powder, curry powder, cooked mince and a fried egg on top. made some Japanese potato and mince croquettes yesterday so had those on the side.

YoongiMarryMe · 07/09/2023 18:39

Chippy dinner, wahoo!

Which is costing £33 for 3 people!
£9.50 large fish supper
£13.50 small munchy box
£10.50 pepperoni pizza

We get a takeaway once a month or less so I won’t cry about the price. Much. 😆

SapphosRock · 07/09/2023 18:50

I got a Too Good to Go from a lovely, healthy vegan cafe.

Huge mixed salad with hummus, smoked garlic and parsnip soup and a juice. It was £5 and I had half for lunch.

The kids had a M&S quiche (£3) with rice, carrots and peas.

Total about £9.
