I bought some reduced-price cauliflower and broccoli florets this morning so I've made a bake with it by adding pasta and cheese sauce. Might have it with some slices of the gammon joint leftover from yesterday.

Pasta bake £1.25 per serving
plus approx 50p per serving of gammon.

Sausages and burgers from the butchers (around £15 but there will be some leftovers for anyone who wants a cold sausage tomorrow), buns and rolls (£5ish), stuff to make a coleslaw (£8 but will be things like the rest of the jar of mayo and yoghurt leftover), salad stuff (leaves, avo, cucumber, tomatoes £5?) and the rest of the stuff like wedges we already have potatoes in for.
We got back from holiday a couple of days ago and aren’t quite back in the swing of it yet, most of this stuff we’d usually already have in.
Looks like about £33 but it’s not really the true cost of dinner tonight!

HAF1119 · 07/09/2023 16:31

2 haddock fillets £3.50, chips made from potato's about £0.50, tin of baked beans £0.50. But the 2 haddock fillets aren't big and we split between 3 of us to save it being £7 for the fish...

MintJulia · 07/09/2023 16:34

Chicken breast with grilled summer veg (courgettes, peppers, french beans, tomatoes from the garden) and brown rice simmered in stock.

About £2.75 for two people.

DS will probably have an ice cream out of the freezer, and I'll have a Pimms & lemonade. If you include those, about £4.

Dh just informed me it was £22 at the butchers not £15.

mondaytosunday · 07/09/2023 16:36

Mozzarella stuffed meatballs, pasta, salad, garlic bread.
The meatballs £4

£6.25/2 = £3.13 each.

Decafflatteplease · 07/09/2023 16:37

Desecratedcoconut · 07/09/2023 16:37

Chilli for five, with rice and gluten free garlic bread. One of the cheapest meals we have in the week. I don't know how much exactly - about £8 ish?

Thesearmsofmine · 07/09/2023 16:37

I’m doing a creamy bacon pasta type thing. Using 1/2 a pack of cooking bacon which cost about £1. It will probably work out around £1 per portion including garlic bread.

Iamlikesorry · 07/09/2023 15:36

Cottage pie, with the topping made from cauliflower cheese left from the roast on sunday, plus left over cooked veg, carrots, leeks and broccoli!

Just got to buy the mince and some onions - about £6 for 6 portions?

That is inspired! Copying this @Iamlikesorry

Decafflatteplease · 07/09/2023 16:39

This sounds nice @Thesearmsofmine is it like a carbonara?

Xiaoxiong · 07/09/2023 16:41

Chicken thighs (5): £2.65
Garlic & ginger probably £1 worth each
Dark soy sauce 50p
Lime £1
Jasmine rice £1.50
Eggs £2.95
Vine tomatoes £3.30
Flat beans £2
Black bean sauce about 50p worth of a packet
Sesame oil about 30p

Total for 4: £16.70

Chinese meal of braised chicken thighs in dark soy, scrambled eggs and tomatoes, flat beans with black bean sauce, and white rice.

evtheria · 07/09/2023 16:42

DS is eating pesto pasta with last of feta block, green peppers, olives, cucumber and red onion. I made it for DP's packed dinner (his had cherry tomatoes from garden as well) and altogether it's probably approx. under £2 for the two big servings, and all ingredients were 'leftovers' to use up.

I lose my appetite when it's so hot, so I'm having Alvalle gazpacho from Tesco that is on offer. It's so delicious I don't even bother with bowl and spoon, I just pour a glass and drink it like a Virgin Mary. About 80p worth.

Crunchymum · 07/09/2023 16:43

Falafel, Greek salad, humous and wholemeal pittas.

Falafel and humous shop bought (M&S so not cheap)

Cannot work out actual costs. Will serve 4 so I'll approximate at £2.50pp.

ForestofBears · 07/09/2023 16:44

Salmon, veg and chips.
I have no idea how much it costs except the salmon I bought today. The veg is from the freezer and the chips were part of the M&S 2 pizzas and 2 sides for £12 deal so maybe they were free as the pizzas are nearly £6 each without the deal.

Ladybird69 · 07/09/2023 16:45

@Thesearmsofmine is it just creamy pasta or does it have cheese as well? If it’s just creamy can you please give me the ingredients x

LizzoBorden · 07/09/2023 16:46

Steak, chimichurri, rocket and corn on the cob. Probably £20 ish?

evtheria · 07/09/2023 16:47

LizzoBorden · 07/09/2023 16:46

Steak, chimichurri, rocket and corn on the cob. Probably £20 ish?

Oh actually I could probably eat this, despite the heat. Bloody love chimichurri.

ElleDeeCB · 07/09/2023 16:48

Spanish tortilla from Sainsburys £4
Feta salad from scratch Tomato £0.35, Feta £1.25, 1/3 cucumber £0.25, olives from jar £0.25, olive oil £0.10, lemon juice £0.05
corn cobs £0.60, coleslaw £0.70
Total= £7.55
Between 3 people = £2.52 portion
(This is quite an expensive one for us)

JanesBlond · 07/09/2023 16:51

It’s too hot for proper cooking today. We’re having tabbouleh (circa £2) with butter beans (59p) and cucumber (65p)

SweetPetrichor · 07/09/2023 16:53

It’s veg soup from the freezer for me tonight.

I’d guess it cost approx £2.30 to make the whole batch (leek 50p, potato 50p, carrot 20p, stock 50p, black beans 60p) and it made around 6 portions so approx 40p per portion. That feels too cheap but I guess soup is budget friendly!

Mummumgem · 07/09/2023 16:56

I popped a chicken in the oven this morning, and a loaf of bread in the bread maker, having that cold tonight with salad. Will be enough to have again tomorrow with some pasta salad, I have some cobs in the freezer which would be good with it 🤔, not sure how much it costs, chicken was about £5 I think, bread cost about 80p to make a large loaf so use about 1/2 so 40p , salad from the garden. The chicken and bread will make sandwiches for lunch tomorrow and then dinner with some pasta 75p a packet, added ingredients for the bringing it to 1.50 🤷🏼‍♀️for the pasta salad, cobs out the freezer half a packet £1 ?

so - chicken £5 - 2 meals plus lunches
Bread 80p - dinner and lunch
Pasta 75p
Added ingredients 75p ?
Salad - haven’t a clue

not bad when you add it up really.

ThreeRingCircus · 07/09/2023 17:00

Dahl with naan bread so a ridiculously cheap meal. The dahl is in the slow cooker as there's no way I'm standing over the hob.

Considering it's mainly lentils, onion, spices and some naan bread I think maybe £1 per portion?

Although now I've seen someone mention a ploughmans on here that sounds amazing and I'm jealous 🤣.

runrabbit77 · 07/09/2023 17:01

We have a Hello Fresh meal of cajun spicy rice which comes out at about £6 for DH and I. It could be done much cheaper but we are trying to make a point of widening our meal choices rather than eat the same few things on rotation. If we like it, we will then make it ourselves.

teenysaladandsniffofarose · 07/09/2023 17:02

Harrisa Roasted cauliflower soft tacos with avocado, tomatoes, spring onion and coconut Greek yoghurt.

Will probably cost about £6 all in and will feed 3 of us

AdoraBell · 07/09/2023 17:03

Meatballs with rice and tinned tomatoes. Meatballs were £4 for 20, that does two meals for us. Rice £1.50 for a kilo and tinned tomatoes, can’t remember. I’ll check and come back.
