Charged £5 to attend a wedding?

AmyGraceJ · 06/09/2023 16:05

An old neighbour got married recently, we don't talk anymore but I did what people do and had a nosy on her Facebook.

She had created an events page for her wedding, which was in a field, called it a 'Festival' and sold tickets at £5 to attend.

That's crazy right?! It was like a viking theme wedding.

Each to their own but charging to attend a wedding is just a super level of Cheeky Fuckery, surely?

@TheFutureMrsWolowitz a cash bar is enough to send me in a tailspin, but paying for food is on another level. Seriously?

£500 is very generous of you btw.

I have been to about 20 weddings in the UK. Every single one has had a cash bar.

I'd pay it just for the craic.Grin

Fortunately you don't have to make such a decision as you're not invited OP. Stop snooping and enjoy your fiver.

You should have seen the photos. So fucking embarrassing. Raising their B&Q axes. Everyone looked like they stink 😭😂

Blimey, can't think why you weren't invited 😆

Because I was her neighbour like a decade ago and we never really interacted because she was an oddball?

And yet.... You're the one Facebook stalking her wedding....

Would have loved to have gone to the £5 Viking wedding Smile

Because someone told me about it and I had to see for myself if it was as bad as she said. It was.

Same - it’s literally the norm?!

op you’re being really mean to this person.

TGGreen · 08/09/2023 00:10

What is unreasonable is to snoop and post here, especially if The Daily Fail get hold of it.
The fiver wouldn't bother me in the slightest.

You need to grow up. Who stalks an old neighbour on Facebook and then creates a thread on MN when it's not actually affected you.

£5 is nothing and you sound like the oddball, not them.

That sounds class.Grin They had fun rather than be Insta worthy all day.

Someoneonlyyouknow · 08/09/2023 00:24

£5 is a nominal amount, almost a joke. If it made a significant contribution to the costs then the 'oddball' former beighbour and her spouse are seriously good at budgeting.

Give up OP. Lots of us think a Viking/mock festival wedding sounds fun, seems her friends did too

Mrsmozza123 · 10/09/2023 07:09

@TheThingIsYeah ive seen how people behave with a free bar. Getting a new double measure every 5 minutes and only taking a couple of sips. The nearly full glasses left at the end of the night is appalling.
I had a cash bar at my wedding.

Clefable · 10/09/2023 07:15

The only thing that stinks and is embarrassing is your attitude, OP. We get it, you think it was stupid and that they're odd and you've written this thread out of mean-spiritedness and spite. I'd pay a fiver to go to that and I bet I'd have a bloody good time.

Someone hoping the newspapers will pick it up and embarrass the neighbours

ICanBuyMyOwnBooks · 10/09/2023 07:23

Or someone who is 'the media' and was hoping for more frothing.

MidnightOnceMore · 10/09/2023 07:26

This is a sorry thread. A person you barely know had a happy event and you've specifically started a thread to ridicule them.

MoiraRosesBaybay · 10/09/2023 07:27

Sounds like they had a great time. A Viking wedding sounds like a laugh. Much more fun that stuck up wedding with everything matching and a bridezilla going nuts over something insignificant.

Blondeshavemorefun · 10/09/2023 07:28

£5 is nothing and would happily pay it

Cash bar - we put money behind bar for our wedding but equally it ran out after a while and then people paid

Perfectly normal to buy drinks at a wedding you go to

Most supply wine on table

I'm more at shock of £500 wedding present - £100 would have been plenty @TheFutureMrsWolowitz

Chrispackhamspoodle · 10/09/2023 07:32

Op listen to yourself - you sound really mean and jealous. Why does this wedding bother you so much?

WaltzingWaters · 10/09/2023 07:39

TheFutureMrsWolowitz · 06/09/2023 16:44

Last wedding I went to (obligation as it was DH's godson) we paid £200 ish for travel; £300 is for accommodation and a deeply irritating £500 for a cash gift. Then it was a cash bar and the food was a cash fish and chip van.

I'd be bloody thrilled with a fiver tbh.

£500 cash gift is huge!

Cash bar is very normal in the UK. Toast drinks and table wine for dinner, then cash bar for anything extra. I’ve only been to one uk wedding with a free bar (which I think the couple regretted when they saw the bill! And I was disappointed as I was pregnant for that wedding!).
The cash fish and chips bar though is crazy!

Back to the OP. £5 seems an odd amount. Enough to make people think, huh? They’re charging us? But not really enough to actually make much of a contribution to the wedding costs.

ZolaBudd · 10/09/2023 07:41

I love the original post here. Mainly because a Viking themed wedding

susan123graeme · 10/09/2023 07:43

It sounds different and fun - you sound very mean and bitchy and a Facebook stalker !
