Got through the entire pandemic, both kids and ex H all got sick, I was immune! Or so I thought.
Felt suddenly feverish yesterday, did a test, negative. Up in the night with proper fever, aches and pains etc so did another test today. Immediate positive result.
For fucks sake!! I'm starting to wonder who I pissed off in a former life. My car has just failed its MOT, and I've been diagnosed with a chronic illness. I'm a LP and money is so fucking tight.
Argh. Sorry just ranting.

Sympathy to all who are suffering! Especially to those who have had it multiple times 😱
I'm actually starting to feel better today, not quite 100% but definitely on the right path.
Still have random aches especially in my back! Although maybe it's all the lying down I've been doing 😳.
Can people please not come on to a thread like this and say, it's just a cold, why bother testing etc? It's very clear that some people have been absolutely devastated by this virus. And it's important to know for multiple reasons, whether it be treatment, care for immunosuppressed people, medical history etc.
People are not looking for drama and attention - it's a significant problem for many.

Agree wholeheartedly.

I have long covid, and my health is significantly implacted - extreme exhaustion, brain fog, heart palpitations, POTS, food intolerance, so I will test when appropriate.

For some people, covid is no more troublesome than a cold, but for others it can be devastating.

I can't shake illnesses off as quickly now, I can't ride my bike, I can't unload the shopping, I can't do loads of the things I took for granted pre covid, so for those of you who say "we have to live with it"- I am, and frankly life is a bit shitty because of it.

Devastating when PP’s minimise.

My DM was diagnosed with COVID induced paranoia. Tigers in the house, parties ( including smashed glasses), family members in the FBI filming her through their glasses.
Has meant a very sudden decline, dementia diagnosed, care home, unable to walk, doesn't know who any of us are - all in a year.
So so sad. I wish PP would admit the risks rather than be in denial. It negates the terrible failings in my loved one’s life.

justasking111 · 09/09/2023 20:34

Friend had it two years ago. Went from a super fit person to a shell. She's had heart problems, then had to have a hysterectomy, now some arthritis type illness has ravaged her body. She's in so much pain, on maximum pain meds believes she won't see next summer and doesn't want to.

EmmaPaella · 09/09/2023 20:41

Jeez - why is “that really sucks, get well soon” so hard for some people to say?

Get well soon OP.

Flinstones · 09/09/2023 20:53

I'm sorry your not well & wish you a speedy recovery. I still don't see why anyone would test! & feel they have to announce to everyone it's covid!! The worst thing they ever did was get a test for covid. I will never test & never did. Time for it to be over.

Not sure which bit of some people need to test you're not getting.

It's not the worst thing for those that need antivirals to stop them being hospitalised or dying ffs.

Spookymormonhelldream · 09/09/2023 22:10

@Flinstones that is a really uninformed and naive comment.
Apart from the ample evidence of serious illness and after effects that posters in this thread have suffered, and continue to suffer, there are several reasons to test.

  1. To determine appropriate treatment, if needed
  2. To protect those with weaker immune systems
  3. To manage any interaction with existing conditions or medications
  4. To diagnose any after effects such as Long Covid and differentiate from other conditions.
Does that clear things up for you?

I don't need to clear things up thanks. I do not agree to anyone testing. Covid testing should be done with now.

ThomasTheTwerkEngine · 09/09/2023 22:34

Me too... tested positive yesterday. Never had it before. Aches, fever, headache and the most horrible sore throat. You have my sympathy ❤️

Spendysis · 09/09/2023 23:17

Hope everyone who feels unwell gets better soon
its such a bizarre virus that affects people in different ways. I lost my job one I enjoyed at the start of covid so temporarily did test and trace even then the range of symptoms varied so much shin pain being one commonly noted. Never lost a job due to cold or flu virus going around

i still test if I feel unwell and have symptoms why? Because I regularly see my 83 year old mum who has heart failure and I don’t want me giving her covid to finish her off because my colleague who I sit next to lost her brother dad and her dc dad to covid because one of the calls I took during test and trace was a 30 odd year old woman who had covid 3 children 2 with covid 1 without 1 was having difficulty breathing and she was terrified of her going to hospital because her similar aged husband had gone into hospital with covid and died recently

I do understand covid is here to stay I do understand we have to live with it and get on with our lives but as I am fortunate to be able to wfh if needed why would I not test to avoid passing it onto someone else

I'm curious about what makes people feel this way. What harm does testing do, in your view? Is it simply that you'd rather pretend there is no Covid or what??

Ewock · 10/09/2023 00:26

All well and good until 18 months down the line you're still struggling with long covid. Going into work is bloody hard and actually managing to do anything with my dc is a freaking miracle. So all this We're meant to be living with it can fuck right off. I am living with it daily and the reminders that in my mid 40's I can't even walk to the local park with my kids without it having a huge effect on me for several days. So to everyone qho says ahh its basically like flu just deal with it. Get some ruddy understanding that you know what it isnt the sodding flu and it is more serious and has huge long term health issues for some people. Stop sticking your head in the sand and actually read up about the effects. I apologise for ranting but I'm so fed up and drained of people saying we need to live with it. I struggle every day since having covid and can't see an end to it. I hate myself and my life since I've had long covid.

Ewock · 10/09/2023 00:28

Meant to tag Mmorales it isnt just a sodding cold. I really hope that is all it feels for you but have some empathy or at least a tiny bit of sense and use your brain. There has been so mucb written about the kong term effects and we still have people spouting shit that its just a cold.

It’s because they’ve got a world view and anything that doesn’t fit with it they see as a personal affront.

Don't look for logic here for you shall find none.

People like our friend here are basically going la la la laaaa I can't hear you and pretending everything has gone away.

Never mind the millions of people who are clinically vulnerable for all sorts of reasons. Flinstones wants to pretend it's not happening so everyone should stop testing and pass it on to ECV people like me. It's not like our lives mean anything, is it?

Selfishness. Think they are the only person that matters and bugger everyone else.

DameWhiskers · 10/09/2023 02:12

Your name suits you - your views seem somewhat Neanderthal. I suppose you're not really into all that science stuff, either?

DameWhiskers · 10/09/2023 02:13

That was to @Flinstones, of course 🙂

trader21c · 10/09/2023 02:18

I have it again too (fourth time?) and yes I have tested as I wanted to know what it was though obviously I suspected. Still tired, blocked nose and at the coughing stage now … it’s not pleasant however much some people try to talk it down! And for those with pre-existing conditions can imagine it would be even more debilitating. Even a week after first testing I’m still getting that taletell line. Had all the jabs/boosters too …hopefully we’ll all be on the mend soon …

Testing means:

  1. You can make an informed decision about what you need to do to minimise the effects of COVID on yourself
  2. Same, but with consideration of others' needs
  3. Same, and get the anti-virals if you qualify as you need to take them asap after a positive test

Time for it to be over

If only, and try telling that to anyone whose health has been wrecked by COVID, bereaved by COVID, or whose health is subject to a constant awareness of their vulnerability to COVID.

But then you know this, don't you?

Spookymormonhelldream · 10/09/2023 09:06

@Flinstones why? Why should we not be testing? What do you know that I don't?
You haven't addressed any of the points I have made, or any of the other posters. What are your thoughts on those?

Morning to the non science deniers 😁 feeling better today although I have a headache and a snotty nose (headache could be due to the horrendous heat though, plus humidity is already 78% at 9am).
I'm also having extraordinarily vivid dreams 😂. Did another test and it's still positive.
@Flinstones my sons friend is due to visit today, his mother has a month old baby. Shall I give him covid to take back to the vulnerable mother and infant? What do you think?

HangingOver · 10/09/2023 09:12

Why are people still testing!

Why do people keep asking this?

I felt a bit throat scratchy the day before going to stay with my Dad who had a stroke the last time he had COVID.

I tested positive so chose not to see him.

Make sense?

justasking111 · 10/09/2023 10:38

Woke up with headache, sore throat, upset stomach and nausea. OH symptoms all snotties and chest. It's so myriad symptoms wise who knows

Flinstones · 10/09/2023 13:14

To answer lots of questions. Firstly to everyone who is poorly it's awful & hopefully a speedy recovery for all. I don't believe in testing because if I was poorly, cold, scratchy throat, etc I wouldn't go & visit an elderly relative, newborn baby, vulnerable person before covid came along! We did have illnesses before covid & we managed to not kill everyone by acting responsibly to those around us. Testing encourages blame which I hate, making people feel guilty. To the poster with the scratchy throat worrying about an elderly relative, does that mean you don't go anywhere? There are vulnerable people everywhere we go who you could make Ill with your germs.
I think testing is creating drama when all we need to do is to act responsibly.
