Got through the entire pandemic, both kids and ex H all got sick, I was immune! Or so I thought.
Felt suddenly feverish yesterday, did a test, negative. Up in the night with proper fever, aches and pains etc so did another test today. Immediate positive result.
For fucks sake!! I'm starting to wonder who I pissed off in a former life. My car has just failed its MOT, and I've been diagnosed with a chronic illness. I'm a LP and money is so fucking tight.
Argh. Sorry just ranting.

I hadn’t last week. It was horrendous. Anyone who says it’s just a cold either hasn’t had it or is lying! Get better soon.

I've had it at least twice.

Its just the new cold.

Instead of a cold, you've now got covid.

We need to learn to live with it.

If OP would get this annoyed about getting a cold then fine rant away. Otherwise I really don't see the point.

JSmithIloveyou · 06/09/2023 11:20

Covid is a thief that steals our lives.
Just got over my 4th bout.
1st time before vaccinations was horrific ( thought l was going to die) and still have long covid symptoms from that..( loads of food l cannot eat.. taste of pure salt). Memory fog etc etc.
2nd and 3rd time like bad flu .
2 months ago l got it again. My neighbour who is a nurse posted me a test .. it was horrific and only just getting over it.
I had to actually have diazepam and after phoning the Samaritans l got a bit of counselling from Well womens centre.. l was suicidal.
I've got disabilities... physically and mentally and chronic illnesses. I have had pleurisy and pneumonia.. various major surgeries and all those put together wasn't as bad as the Covid l had.
I will get my booster.. but l honestly can't go through it again
Hope you feel better soon

Thanks for the advice @LifeIsShitJustNow and sorry to hear about your health problems :(

For those who keep saying 'it's just a cold, stop making a fuss'... please look at this thread and see that symptoms vary wildly from person to person. In the 72 hours after testing positive I felt almost normal, and would agree that I have had far worse colds. But here I am 3 weeks later with such severe brain fog that I do not feel safe driving or cooking a hot meal... it's exactly the same feeling as when I was coming out of sedation after an endoscopy. That is certainly not a symptom I have ever had with a cold!

After all these years, are there still some people who don’t understand that this virus (like many others) affects different people differently?

@MMorales - I can see you’ve posted about PND before. What you’ve posted here is the equivalent of someone saying “Oh, everyone gets a bit of baby blues, you just need to learn to live with it”. At best it’s insensitive, at worst it is very harmful.

Stripeypyjamas · 06/09/2023 11:43

I think my dh may have it as he keeps falling asleep during the day and went to bed at 7pm yesterday. He could just be being lazy though

Lifeetc · 06/09/2023 11:07

Can I join in?!
I've got it now, really unwell with it.
Got rushed to hospital burning up, but not COVID symptoms, had loads of tests ECG etc. Nobody wearing masks (myself included) been there hours before a COVID test done. Positive result everyone wearing masks, but I could go home.
Came home slept around 18hrs a day for first three days.
I've had COVID before but nothing like this, still feel dizzy, pins and needles, can smell everything, food tastes horrible and I'm so tired.
It's weird how it reacts differently, some ppl slightly ill others completely wiped out.

I'm in day 3 of my second bout.

I'm glad you mentioned pins and needles as I've got it in my arms and legs and haven't heard of this as a symptom before.

Bad luck OP, I'm alternating aspirin and paracetamol but still not feeling great.

ThePoshUns · 06/09/2023 11:49

For those in healthcare Govt advice is to stay at home for 5 days ( if you can)
I'm public sector and although too unwell to work at the moment if I am better the end of the week I've been told to work from home.
I know that's not an option in a lot of roles but seems very dangerous to allow those who are infectious to work in healthcare settings?

Lots of illnesses affect people differently.

Chickenpox can be life threatening for some and a few spots for others.

Same for the flu.

Can be life threatening for some and not as bad for others.

And same for the cold virus it can be life threatening for some.

Lifeetc · 06/09/2023 11:51

Hi I think this is my third or fourth time!
I've had the vaccines too (eligible for COVID and the flu vaccines)
The pins and needles is definitely new to this time and a weird buzzing sensation.
I feel a lot more swooshy this time like travel sickness with the slightest movement
I know other people who have it now and barely have a sniffle.
Hoping to bounce back soon

ThePoshUns · 06/09/2023 12:03

Yes as well as pins and needles, my tinnitus has flared up and keep feeeling faint - I did faint a few days ago and wondered if that was the start of it

FatCovidWorries · 06/09/2023 12:04

Same story for me OP. Have been around COVID many times and never caught it.

Monday I felt beyond horrendous with full body chills/pains/sweating but freezing the most intense back pain and headache I've ever known and on my own with two kids. It was so hard.

I started a thread on the COVID board but thankfully I'm feeling much better then I was and hoping to not go back downhill.

Wishing us all a speedy recovery! Flowers

ThePoshUns · 06/09/2023 12:04

Even worse I had to cancel my hair appointment and my roots are dreadful!

Me too! Supposed to travel to look after family this week, felt crap last Wednesday, tested positive Friday, still positive, still crap, have every jolly symptom there is and I've never had it before either!

Choconuttolata · 06/09/2023 12:17

Also unwell with Covid again, think 4th time around I have had it. Still have Long Covid symptoms since the first bout nearly 3 years ago. Feeling marginally better now after 6 days, fever has come down, but still too fatigued and breathless to manage doing much.

DH also sick again only on day 3, luckily not so unwell this time that he has needed to be hospitalised like the first time, but still in bed for days like with an influenza.

On the pins and needles front I have had this as one of my neurological symptoms for the last few years, it correlates with my level of fatigue and is one of the symptoms that for me can be made worse by exertion or overdoing activity (at the beginning even folding clothes for more than 10 minutes could make this worse so start with low exertion activities that are gentle and build up time gradually if you are struggling). Pacing my activity massively helped me manage this.

Some advice on pacing. I know it relates to Long Covid, but implementing this advice in your early recovery can help too.

Look under The Road to Recovery section and managing daily activities for advice.

This site is also good.

Hope everyone starts to feel better soon 🙏

I hear you OP

I was all smug as I have never got Covid, ever...
Until August 24th this Year.
Came home from Holiday and started to feel rough.. Positive Test.
It is negative now but some symptons linger such as
Fatigue
Running Nose then Blocked up Nose
Headache
Cough

Hope you feel on the mend soon..

When I was Ms Smug I thought "Pah, not no worse than flu by the sound of it"
I was wrong.

SaltySeaCat · 06/09/2023 12:25

I’m on day 3 but luckily it is just like a cold this time. I had it last summer and felt much worse. I’m WFH as that’s the guidance st my work.

Spookymormonhelldream · 06/09/2023 12:43

I'm wfh as well, my work are pretty sensible about this. Also one of the lads on my team has an 8 week old at home. Pretty sure he wouldn't appreciate me spreading my germs far and wide!
Good advice on pacing, I'm the absolute worst for thinking oh I feel a bit better, I'll reorganise the kitchen cupboards/iron the uniforms/hit the gym, then end up 5x worse.

Its different for everyone and always has been for some people it will.be just a cold
And some people maybe asymptomatic
Whilst others feel.awful
And some need hospital treatment.

Clumsykitten · 06/09/2023 13:00

@MMorales - that’s exactly my point. You wouldn’t say to someone who was feeling really rotten with something else, especially something they thought they’d avoided to basically get over it, it’s just a cold.

TheChosenTwo · 06/09/2023 13:01

Me too! Spent 3 days of my holiday a few days ago just in bed as I felt so rough! Back to work now (from home) but still
expected in the office on Friday unless I feel too ill to.

Tarkan · 06/09/2023 21:48

Get well soon OP!

I'm just getting over my third bout of it. The first was definitely the worst and took well over 2 weeks before I felt remotely better. This time was almost a carbon copy of the second time and each were around a week.

I have fibromyalgia and a heart condition and I'm due my next Covid and flu jags in just over a couple of weeks so I hope I can have them and then that's me sorted for the winter now.

I've been housebound for a week because I've felt so rotten with it and I can't wait to get out again. The exhaustion and brain fog on top of typical fibro symptoms is the worst and I don't think I could have made it even to the end of our street if I had tried to go out.

I'm finally feeling more human today so I'm considering going out for a little bit tomorrow at least as it doesn't help my mobility and pain levels being stuck in the house like I have been.

underneaththeash · 06/09/2023 21:56

Call it what you want, but it's basically now a more contagious form of flu.

Spookymormonhelldream · 06/09/2023 22:08

Get well soon @Tarkan you've been through it by the sounds of things Flowers.
I know that lots of posters seem to be keen to minimise Covid and to be fair, for most it's not the worst illness you'll ever have, but for some it's pretty catastrophic.
Add a chronic illness into the mix and you can really struggle.
I'm a very high energy, determined sort usually, but if my legs will barely get me to the washing machine, then I have to admit defeat!
