At last!!! A like button

OP posts:

Give thanks
With a grateful heart

Halo
AuntieStella · 04/09/2023 11:29

I don't.

Why can't people just express thanks in an actual post (then at least you'd know quite what you've said was appreciated)

Whenever MNHQ has put the idea of a "like" button to forum users, it's been rejected. So I'd be rather unhappy if a minority were seeking to impose one where it's not wanted.

ReeseWitherfork · 04/09/2023 11:31

Whenever MNHQ has put the idea of a "like" button to forum users, it's been rejected.

This really surprises me. Also surprised I’ve never seen the question be asked. What’s the argument against?

TragicTess · 04/09/2023 19:30

I going to try it out to see what happens…

TragicTess · 04/09/2023 19:31

Hmm

DivingForLove · 04/09/2023 19:31

@TragicTess only you can see my thanks for trying out the thanks button 😄

TragicTess · 04/09/2023 19:34

@DivingForLove thanks for my thanks 😊

WingBingo · 04/09/2023 19:35

I like it.

ChipshopPickledEgg · 05/09/2023 06:58

I think by giving thanks in a thread it's more useful for future readers who are unsure about a topic.

I did click some random posts yesterday for no reason than oooh what does this dooo?

Going to like your post though... Obvs.

Candymay · 06/09/2023 11:29

I’ve never understood why users are so against like button. I’ve heard arguments that it doesn’t encourage conversion and also that it’s going to turn into Reddit if people can like instead of commenting. However, Reddit is full of conversations and the likes and dislikes are one feature of the site. So I still don’t understand the resistance here.

foulksmills · 06/09/2023 12:07

I like that it's anonymous. I hope they keep it like that.

AutumnCrow · 06/09/2023 12:12

As long as it's kept private and posters don't brag about it.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/09/2023 13:33

Where is this like button? I can't see it

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/09/2023 13:33

I'm on the mobile app, if that makes any difference

TheShellBeach · 06/09/2023 13:36

But who can see if thanks have been given?
I've tried it out by "giving thanks" for a few posts - and nothing shows up.

Does the person who gets the thanks receive a message from MNHQ to tell them someone has given them thanks? Because I can't see anything different.

TheShellBeach · 06/09/2023 13:36

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/09/2023 13:33

Where is this like button? I can't see it

I've given thanks for your post - can you see it?

pickledandpuzzled · 06/09/2023 13:37

It's not on the app yet. A new app is underway but don't hold your breath!

The person whose post has received gratitude gets told, no one else.

pickledandpuzzled · 06/09/2023 13:38

I think it would be nice to know someone has noticed what you said. It can be a bit like shouting into the wilderness sometimes.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/09/2023 14:18

@TheShellBeach sorry, no!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 06/09/2023 14:22

I hate the fact it messed up the quote button and then you have an annoying pop up you have to get rid of, it's so clunky.

TheShellBeach · 06/09/2023 14:29

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 06/09/2023 14:18

@TheShellBeach sorry, no!

Yes, well that's pretty pointless, then.
Hmm I wonder what it's supposed to do?

TheShellBeach · 06/09/2023 14:33

@dexterslockedintheshedagain apparently you have to click on the "thanks" icon and it'll tell you who has thanked you.

I mean - how utterly pointless.

EyesEars · 06/09/2023 14:38

How do you know if you've been given thanks? Could someone thank me pleas so I can see?!

verdantverdure · 06/09/2023 14:39

I can't see it to do it.

Or edit either.

But it was lovely to receive a couple Grin

Pleasenowthatsenough · 06/09/2023 14:42

So it’s to say thanks? For what? Thanks for writing that post that I would anywhere else just hit the like button. Is that right?
