I think Russel Crowe is incredible as Javert

Lots of female comedians are not funny at all - just embarrassing. Sorry!

SquashPenguin · 05/09/2023 13:15

Taylor Swifts music is so unbelievably boring.

Well don’t you both sound super!! It’s one thing to say you don’t think she’s beautiful, but publicly calling her “Donkeyface” is just nasty.
I actually think it’s a good thing she isn’t a classic beauty- in the wise words of Groove Armada, if everybody looked the same…

We are allowed our opinions 🤷‍♀️

Jo Brand immediately springs to mind.

Never been funny and has a massive chip on her shoulder.

I don't understand the adulation on here.

She's not terribly bright, the songs are just awful and her voice is great for a girl singing in her bedroom, nothing more. She also comes across as being hard work, vindictive and intolerant.

SquashPenguin · 05/09/2023 14:30

@CassiniG the Taylor Swift obsession on here is cult- like!

LadyMuckingabout · 05/09/2023 14:40

This is degenerating fast Sad Donkey Face indeed. Nice one.

People are indeed entitled to their opinions but not factually inaccurate ones. @HollyhocksAndFoxgloves you have clearly not watched Dirty Dancing. Patrick Swayze is the resident dancer - his job is to dance with women guests, no matter what their age. “Nobody puts baby in the corner” is nothing whatsoever to do with being pregnant! It’s Baby with a capital B.

In Friends Monica is illegally living in her grandmother’s rent-controlled apartment.

I sound like a superfan here but I just don’t like sneering without having actually watched or experienced something/somewhere.

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 14:53

Yes. I know.

It's just the oft repeated, hackneyed, meaningless, cliche of, 'nobody puts baby in the corner.'

Not an actual baby though. Did I understand that correctly ?

DappledThings · 05/09/2023 14:56

Correct. It's Baby, the character's nickname. It doesn't have a general meaning, it's referring specifically to her and saying she should be out on centre stage, literally not in the corner hidden away.

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 14:57

You do. This illustrates my point of a nearly 40 year old not very good movie becoming tribal i.e. we can't be friends if you don't have a near religious devotion to the film, 'Dirty Dancing.'

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 14:59

@DappledThings

Thanks for explaining that. I had not long finished reading my, 'Janet and John' books.

How come Baby went to a backstreet abortionist if she was keen about not being in the corner ?

Not really. It was just obvious you were complaining about a film you haven't really watched.

TheSkull · 05/09/2023 15:00

@HollyhocksAndFoxgloves
Its one film I’ve never seen

You haven't watched the film at all have you?

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 15:01

Oh no ! They're coming for me with flaming torches !

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 15:02

I told you the love for, 'Dirty Dancing' is tribal.

Don't be ridiculous.

It's just obvious you haven't watched the film so slagging it off and judging people that like it seems daft.

You're weirdly het up about this. I have watched it. I have no huge obsession with it or think it's something everyone should watch. It's a bit odd to query the plot of something when you haven't even got the plot right though.

HollyhocksAndFoxgloves · 05/09/2023 15:05

I have watched the film. Back in the 1980's when it was first out.

I will now hide this thread as I have foolishly criticised a film that people think is some sort of alternative religion.

The only one being obsessive about it is you!

ComtesseDeSpair · 05/09/2023 15:09

I have never seen Dirty Dancing and don’t have the foggiest what it’s about.

TheSkull · 05/09/2023 15:20

This thread is about unpopular opinions. Not loving off Dirty Dancing is clearly an unpopular opinion. Job done

Not really.

That poster came on with an opinion about DD being shit (unpopular opinion so fine) but suggested it was some kind of tribal/cult thing and people would refuse to be friends with someone that didn't love it. Bizarre?

While it was pretty obvious she hadn't seen it or knew much about it. When posters pointed that out, she had a weird episode saying people were getting their pitchforks out and that proved it was a tribal cult. Or something. It was all very strange.

No-one said she was U for not liking it. Just that it's U to have such a strong dislike for a film (and people that like it) that you don't know much about.

TheSkull · 05/09/2023 15:51

I think she was just being lighthearted
