What are your ‘I’m poorly’ foods

Dreamsarereal · 03/09/2023 22:14

In bed with Covid, can’t do much, don’t really want to eat but feel I have to be proactive about it so just had sour dough bread and honey washed down with kombucha.
What I really want is hot Ribena and rich tea biscuits.
What helps you when you are poorly!

Eggy cup with toast soldiers, or marmite on toast and a mug of tea.

LaviniasBigBloomers · 03/09/2023 22:15

Heinz tomato soup, with thickly buttered bread, always. Although I didn't have it when I had Covid because I did lose my sense of taste and was afraid I'd get the ick, so I avoided it.

Heinz tomato soup with cheese sandwiches

Cheese toasties (sandwiches if sore throat) cut into fingers and dipped in tinned tomato soup. I like hot blackcurrant or fresh orange juice.

Let's be ill together

Bowl of frosties without milk and warm ribena-reminds me of school sick days in the 80s and 90s!

Oh I'd forgotten how much I love dry Frosties! May have to get some

Tootyfilou · 03/09/2023 23:07

Mashed potato with a soft poached egg on top.

TheQuestToStopPigeonWoppie · 03/09/2023 23:11

Lilt

I've been feeling unwell for a while now...

supercatlady · 03/09/2023 23:11

Heinz tomato soup, crusty bread and butter or cheese spread.
original lucozade
if it’s a cold: hot squash or stones ginger wine

Perfectlystill · 03/09/2023 23:13

Homemade veg soup or Italian white bean soup

Beans on toast

Cereal

Proper cocoa made with milk

Lucozade original or Sport (orange)

Lemsip (ideally blackcurrant)

thunderandsunshine01 · 03/09/2023 23:14

Just plain spaghetti in heated chopped tinned tomatoes with a knob of butter and a bit of pepper. Has also become DHs comfort food, after originally declaring he hated it.

HeadacheEarthquake · 03/09/2023 23:16

Bachelors pasta packets with shredded chicken added, fresh cherry tomato and parmesan

I know I could cook the pasta but when you're ill it's less faff and so salty and crappy I love it

Knittedfairies · 03/09/2023 23:16

Plain toast (no butter), plain jacket potato (ditto) or cream crackers (ditto)

Titsywoo · 03/09/2023 23:18

Instant noodles but instead of the powder or sauce packs I add pesto and loads of cheese. It is somehow better than spaghetti with pesto. No idea why! I prefer to use the shin ramyun noodles as they are thicker.

HeyMicky · 03/09/2023 23:19

Riso in brodo - orzo cooked in chicken broth till soupy, bit of cream if you have it, grated parmesan, lots and lots of black pepper

TheGirlWhoLived · 03/09/2023 23:28

@Knittedfairies that’s not an illness; it’s s hangover 😂

QueefofSheena · 03/09/2023 23:36

M&S cheese tasters or Walkers sweet chilli sensations. When I was having chemo it was fruit mentos and love hearts

Jellycatspyjamas · 03/09/2023 23:38

Boiled egg and toast with hot ribena, sometimes I take a notion for horlicks, I keep an emergency tub just in case.

Tarkan · 03/09/2023 23:43

I've got Covid right now too (third time in total) and my Covid poorly foods are different to my other poorly foods and I don't know why other than the fact that Covid makes me so hungry I'm just snacking non-stop. I've never lost my sense of taste though, and the only thing I've lost my sense of smell with is Vaporub which is really weird but that's only lasted 1-2 days each time at least.

So far this time I've been enjoying:

crisps, so many crisps but especially sour cream and onion Discos and every flavour of Hula Hoops

Toast with butter and a small scraping of Vegemite. I can't get enough of this right now.

Rocky road bites

Buttery crumpets

Blue Riband biscuits

And for drinks, tea. All the tea. I'm a coffee drinker normally but I always prefer tea when I'm ill.

I hope you feel better soon OP. Flowers

Thursa · 04/09/2023 06:49

Tea and toast
turkey and Swiss cheese on white bread sandwich
mashed tatties and gravy

superplumb · 04/09/2023 07:20

Macaroni and cheese
Boiled egg mashed up in a cup with butter and bits of white bread. Tastes better than it sounds

Daddylonglegs123 · 04/09/2023 07:23

Homemade chicken soup, cheese scone, chocolate, a strawberry tart, ice cream, lemsip, hot lemonade or hot cordial.

illiterato · 04/09/2023 07:26

That Itsu Brilliant broth chicken flavour. Has a nice heat to it. Lemon and honey tea. If I’ve got a cold/ cough/ sore throat I can’t stand any sort of dairy. It has to be citrus or Chili flavours.

BoobyDazzler · 04/09/2023 07:26

soft boiled eggs with bread and butter soldiers with a fair bit of salt! Food of the gods.

Ladyofthelake53 · 04/09/2023 07:36

Tomato soup, buttery mash

SadCelticBunny · 04/09/2023 07:44

Dit has to be Flu Stew! ( This rhymes in my accent ☺️)

Onions, Garlic, Leeks
Carrots
Potatoes
Parsnips

Peeled and sliced/cut into chunks
Hot water
Bouillon or stock cube.
Salt and pepper

Put everything into a very large pan and bring to the boil.
Simmer until the vegetables are tender.

This is the best thing for a bad cold.

Real comfort food.

yogasaurus · 04/09/2023 07:45

Hot and spicy clear broth Asian noodle soup with dumplings and veggies
