Which day off work? Wednesday or Friday

I'm about to submit a flexible working request to reduce from full time to 4 days a week. For various reasons, I'd want the day off to be a Wednesday or Friday. Just can't decide which! Any thoughts?

Now that I am older I like a three day weekend in which to recuperate but when the DC were school age I didn't need it in the same way so breaking the week up on Wednesday suited me.

I would choose to be off on Wednesdays, as it means you're only ever on the office 2 days in a row, before getting another break.

Friday.
I did Wednesday off for a couple of months. I. thought yea great, a mid-week break. Nope. I was more tired. Always had the "Sunday" feeling knowing I was back at work the next day.

I recently started taking a Wednesday off. Love it. Can keep on top of housework/laundry etc and only ever have to work two days at a time. I don't mind Fridays in work as it's a quiet day usually. Plus less traffic on the road in the morning on way to work.

A while ago I agreed in principle to work 4 days with a Wednesday off. It didn't work out in the end but I think it would be brilliant.

For me, it depends on your reason for doing 4 days. If I didn't have DC at home and could use the weekends for short breaks, seeing friends etc then I'd have a Friday for long weekends. If it's more for catching up on stuff/childcare/having some time to yourself I'd have Wed.

This especially with school age DCs. But my favourite day to have off was Mondays.

At my place Fridays are the best day to work . Everything is winding down, managers are scarce and we always get out 2-3 hours early .. Wednesday would suit me much better .

Depends on your area of work. If you have a job which is very much go in do your work, but you don’t end up taking work home/working evenings etc then I would go for the 3 day weekend.

Most people (especially now with wfh more common) have jobs where the boundary between work and home life is far more blurred. In that situation I would take Wednesday off (be very clear you don’t work that day and out of office on). As others have said Friday is often a more chilled day anyway in most businesses. I also think people are less likely to chase if they message you and know you’ll be back on Thursday. If you get sent things which people want done by the end of the week, and you don’t work Fridays, you are more likely to get messages. I know I would also be more likely to do a bit more work on Fridays if I felt I hadn’t finished things off - which I wouldn’t do on a Wednesday.
