Ok so I've come up with the above idea and wondered if any of you have done similar before a milestone birthday? If so I am looking for ideas and I have until May 2024 to complete.
My interests are horse riding, reading, walking/hiking, eating out and going to the gym. I don't really drink alcohol unless it's a special occasion.
So far I've got...

  1. Visit Iceland
  2. Climb Ben Nevis
  3. Climb Snowden
  4. Long weekend away with best pal abroad

As you can see I am 46 ideas short 😂😂 please help!!

I wouldn't be going to Iceland, they hunt whales. My friend did 50 things for her 50th and raised loads of money for charity.

PixiePirate · 03/09/2023 22:24

Agree with the ‘decade following 50’ suggestion by pp.

Walk Hadrian’s Wall.
Watch an opera, ballet or West End show.
Fundraise or volunteer for a charity.

CassiniG · 03/09/2023 22:37

Skinny dipping.
Ride a mechanical bull.
Ice skating.
Roller skating.
Walk with alpacas/llamas.
Be a zoo keeper for a day with chosen a woman.

some great ideas, i like stuff that does not cost much.

write a letter to your future self
make a time capsule
camp out and watch the stars
test drive the car of your dreams
learn a poem you can recite to a loved one
do a random act of kindness for a stranger once a week
volunteer for a charity
make a rope swing

I've gone right off Iceland since I heard to my disgust the other day that they've been whaling again.

I'm wondering if you're local to me?! Penny farm is quite close to me and they do amazing afternoon teas. All monies raised goes towards the sanctuary.

I've never heard of the Friesian stable stays...I'll have a nosey now. Would love to ride the Cumbrian heavy horses too!

If you like horses, you'll love the Fresian stable stays. DH did it with DS a few years ago, and they chose the Shetland pony version - they both said it was one of those things you'll never forget. Admittedly I played the horse allergy card and stayed in a nice warm B&B with takeaway pizza and wine, so can't give you first-hand feedback, but this is the photo DH sent me...

We may well be! Penny Farm is about 45 minutes away from me. You should also check out Shore Hey in Burnley, the cafe next door is lovely, and Cotebrook Shire Horse Centre in Cheshire, it's ace!

I'd highly recommend the stable stays, it's expensive but worth it for a treat. You can even pay for their Shetland to give you a morning wake up call! I went last month, it was surreal being woken up at 3 am by a Friesian kicking the wall our bed was attached to! But it's the only place in the world that does it.

SummerIsBack · 04/09/2023 19:05

Go on a solo holiday.

WickWood · 04/09/2023 19:07

Aww, JB the Shetland pony! My horse for the stay was Hidde. I have to say, at the time I wondered why we hadn't spent the money staying at a relaxing spa somewhere, but it was wonderful.
Here's our wake up call, our tea the night of the stay and my OH having cuddles.

How about writing a novel or memoir, even if only for yourself/your children?

Honestly I got a bit stressed out reading all these. I think I'll do a '5 things to do before I'm 50', it's a more realistic goal

costadelay · 07/09/2023 22:21

A fancy brunch or afternoon tea

CrapBucket · 08/09/2023 00:30

It doesn’t matter but just to point out, your 50th year is before your 50th birthday. Age 50, you are in your 51st year.

I am loving this idea and I have a lovely friend who I think would join me...better get saving up! Thanks for the info

I can see what you mean but I'm someone who loves a list of goals and experiences. My plan is to tie in a few at once rather than 50 individual events/ideas.

I've added writing a letter to my future self. I've done this once before and got a friend to post it to me 12 months later...it really was enlightening. I also like the idea of doing a random act of kindness...I think paying for someone's order through a Starbucks drive through is a simple but effective act.

Thanks for your ideas. Walking with alpacas has been added... absolutely love them. I'm also liking the zoo keeper for a day.
