Ok so I've come up with the above idea and wondered if any of you have done similar before a milestone birthday? If so I am looking for ideas and I have until May 2024 to complete.
My interests are horse riding, reading, walking/hiking, eating out and going to the gym. I don't really drink alcohol unless it's a special occasion.
So far I've got...

  1. Visit Iceland
  2. Climb Ben Nevis
  3. Climb Snowden
  4. Long weekend away with best pal abroad

As you can see I am 46 ideas short 😂😂 please help!!

Watch a court trial.

Seriously don't bother. As a solicitor I can assure you they're nothing like the contrived nonsense on TV. The reality is very dull.

Sweetener12 · 01/09/2023 10:44

Taking a trip somewhere => making a video about that with effects and voiceover and everything. Simple programs like Clipify would help with that

CheshireCat1 · 01/09/2023 10:48

Sleep in the open air on a clear night and stargaze, Northumberland and the west coast of Scotland, Lochaber, are good places to start.

ReviewingTheSituation · 01/09/2023 10:51

I'm loving these - and I'm going to steal some!

I'd add
Spend time in a dark skies area (Sark is fab)
Try 50 different cocktails (a friend did this!)

Plus loads of the ones already mentioned.

BUT - I think whoever said it's a tough (and expensive) ask to get all this done in a year was dead right. I'd spread it out over a decade if you're going for 'big' things/visits.
If you go down the 'learn a new recipe', 'read x book', 'knit something' route, then it's very doable, but gigs, visits, experiences etc all take a lot of time and money (and if you do too many of them end up not being that special).

wizzler · 01/09/2023 11:15

Go to a brass band carol concert
Find a pen pal
Raise money for a charity
Re read your favourite childhood
Have your colours read

Rainbowqueeen · 01/09/2023 11:22

Do a hot yoga class
play table tennis or another sport you’ve always wanted to try
swim on the mid winter solstice
go to an opera

Imnotdrinkingmerlot · 01/09/2023 12:40

I think basic things that you've never got round to and would value are more realistic, then spread the big things out over a longer time period.

See a sunrise
Go for a moon walk in nature
Raise some money for charity
Have a beauty treatment you've never had
Etc etc

katscamel · 01/09/2023 13:51

Do a colour run
Make a meal from a-z of countries
Have a Eurovision party
Do an Alpaca Trek
Do a short course in something that really interests you
Try hypnotherapy/reiki etc
Decorate your bedroom / favourite room
Have a pamper day....nails/facial/massage
Make a playlist of all the No 1s on your bday
Do something that scares you
Be in the audience of a TV shoe you like
Tell someone how important they are to you
Save any 50ps you get in a jar to use for something on your bday
Learn how to.....write poetry, fiction, paint, draw
Do a life drawing class
Write your memoirs

TomatoSandwiches · 01/09/2023 13:56

Just wanted to pop in and say I love this thread, so many wonderful things people want to do, brilliant inspiration.

Divebar2021 · 01/09/2023 14:06

I had a list for my 50th but Covid happened and it all went to pot. Included in the list from memory were smaller ambitions like write a letter. ( I actually have pen pals now so have carried on) bake a cake / dish from whatever country interests you, swim in a lake or river, paint a picture, go to an opera / ballet. These kinds of ambitions are achievable and don’t require tons of planning. I should dig my list out and see if there’s anything else.

Climb Scafell
Walk the Coast to Coast Path
Walk the Pennine way or another beautiful long hike - the North or south Downs Way or the Thames Path
Go kayaking - I insist! Grin
Visit the Outer Hebrides or the highlands of Sccotland (which are the most beautiful place on earth imho)
Go on RideLondon when the whole of central London is closed to all traffic except pushbikes. It's adorable. Penny farthings, unicycles, tandems all pedalling away past Buckingham Palace and tower of London.
Climb a tree. I did that in my mid fifties. It was such fun. Hadn't done it since childhood.
Stay up to watch the sun set and rise over a single night and morning, with a good friend or loved one, talking the night away, maybe around a bonfire.
Wild swim in the ocean, a lake and a river
Grow veg or fruit and make soup, chutney or jam from them
Plant a tree somewhere it won't be disturbed and can flourish
Adopt a rescue animal

Austrianmilk · 01/09/2023 16:51

Wow I'm absolutely loving these ideas, thank you everyone that has replied! I've only just had chance to read through them all and I think it will be a good idea for me to extend my time frame to 50 things to do from now until the end of my 50th year. I think I was being a little too optimistic with my time frame.

I've already done Scarfell hence why I didn't include it and I've booked Ben Nevis for next month.

Loving the idea of creating something and I am looking into cake decorating course. I've also just booked a six week silk yoga course where you dangle around.

Will definitely add on the posh restaurant idea and maybe an cocktail at the Ivy.

Donating /volunteering for a charity will most definitely be on my list, most likely something to do with animals.

Hope these ideas have given others some things to think about for their lists.

I did a fish preparation and cooking course at Hugh Fearnley Whittingstall’s place. It was excellent!

Austrianmilk · 01/09/2023 18:25

I have crazily just booked Iceland for November! 4 day trek on the Icelandic ponies. Hopefully I'll see the northern lights so maybe I can knock a couple off my list in one go.

I'm reading back through everyone's suggestions again and making notes....so exciting!

Mine were:

Learn a foreign language, not an obvious one like French, Spanish or Italian but something that's challenging with a different alphabet

Take up a martial art

Learn to ride a motorbike

Learn to play the piano

These were actually on my list for turning 30 and I managed two out of the four 🙄😪🤣

PollyCreo · 01/09/2023 19:14

Oh, and go for a mammogram 👍

Austrianmilk · 01/09/2023 19:29

@PollyCreo ah yes learning the piano...I have wanted to do this like forever!

Go to Northumberland:

  1. Ride on the beach at Bamburgh castle
  2. Spend many hours at Barter Books (you can thank me later)
  3. Visit Holy Island for the most beautiful beaches, swim in the sea, fly a kite,

Try a new style of riding - side saddle, western
Look up and listen to all the songs that were number one on each of your birthdays
Go geocaching
Visit a medium for a reading
Go to an auction for fine art, antiques, celeb memorabilia
Perform some random acts of kindness
Go to a gallery to see a really iconic piece of art
Visit the filming location of a favourite movie
See a performance by the RSC
Put £50 on black at roulette
Go fan-girl and write a letter to a public figure you admire
Get involved in your community- volunteer with a charity, go litter picking, donate to the food bank
Learn to identify different birds / trees / constellations

Love the idea of Northumberland, the beaches look devine. Maybe I could combine this with a couple of the other ideas such as star gazing and skinny-dipping

Where did you book this?

Username620 · 01/09/2023 22:21

I’m planning the same. I don’t have my full 50 yet but here are some

visit the castle from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
go hang gliding
get my powerboat licence
hire a camper van and have a road trip with my dog
pass the B1 level German test
go to Bruges
small boat cruise Croatian coastline
visit friends in Thailand

LadyShrek2k19 · 01/09/2023 22:48

I have a 40 before 40 list.

Some things that were / are on it:

Get another tattoo
Get a dog
Go to a pottery course
Go to a life drawing class
Go to a chocolate making workshop
Order/ear dinner in a restaurant backwards
Go on a roller coaster (never done it!)
Bake a Victoria sponge (felt like the sort of thing I should be able to do before I turn 40!)
Visit 5 new places

I'm actually giving myself a bonus 2 years to make up for the 'rona years, and have been lucky enough to be gifted some of the activities on there.

Lisbeth50 · 01/09/2023 22:53

I did a list for my 50th. Unfortunately, it was lockdown and I managed one thing. I will have to dig it out and try and do some more!
