Ok so I've come up with the above idea and wondered if any of you have done similar before a milestone birthday? If so I am looking for ideas and I have until May 2024 to complete.
My interests are horse riding, reading, walking/hiking, eating out and going to the gym. I don't really drink alcohol unless it's a special occasion.
So far I've got...

  1. Visit Iceland
  2. Climb Ben Nevis
  3. Climb Snowden
  4. Long weekend away with best pal abroad

As you can see I am 46 ideas short 😂😂 please help!!

Where did you book this?

Through a company called equestrian escapes. You book your flights separately. They are a British based company but arrange riding holidays all over the world. The trip I've booked is called the northern lights tour and includes accommodation and all meals plus four days riding.

I have a 40 before 40 list.

Some things that were / are on it:

Get another tattoo
Get a dog
Go to a pottery course
Go to a life drawing class
Go to a chocolate making workshop
Order/ear dinner in a restaurant backwards
Go on a roller coaster (never done it!)
Bake a Victoria sponge (felt like the sort of thing I should be able to do before I turn 40!)
Visit 5 new places

I'm actually giving myself a bonus 2 years to make up for the 'rona years, and have been lucky enough to be gifted some of the activities on there.

Think I'll add the chocolate making class to my list for sure, thank you ☺️

I did a list for my 50th. Unfortunately, it was lockdown and I managed one thing. I will have to dig it out and try and do some more!

Me too!

AnneButNotHathaway · 02/09/2023 05:09

Get a completely new skill and then join a competition! Singing, dancing, roller skating, or could be digital things like photography and post-processing or music making (start with something simple like Photoworks or Garage band to learn the basics, then dive deeper)

BatshitCrazyWoman · 02/09/2023 17:07

It's my 60th next year, and I plan to do a thing each month for 12 months, starting in the month of my birthday. Because 60 different things is too many (I don't have a lot of spare time/annual leave) 😂 Some are travel, some based on my hobby (singing) - so learning to sing something challenging, possibly operatic (my teacher is an opera singer).

And I've added to my list to do a random act of kindness each month.

Pushkinini · 02/09/2023 17:23

I so wanted to do this in my 50th year. In the end I managed these:

Have a tattoo
Dye my hair a zany colour
Cold water swimming
Learn to crochet
Visit Australia and within than a few other things including; going to Uluru, see the Great Barrier Reef, see Sydney Harbour Bridge

I'm 51 now but I still plan on giving new things a try. Life's far too short! My next is to get my nose pierced.

Ride at Cumbrian Heavy Horses

Spend the night at Friesian stable stays
https://www.thefriesianexperience.org/stable-stays

Fly a bird of prey

Go to Alton Towers/another theme park

Visit a horse sanctuary, Redwings, Penny Farm, Shore Hey Farm

I'm wondering if you're local to me?! Penny farm is quite close to me and they do amazing afternoon teas. All monies raised goes towards the sanctuary.

I've never heard of the Friesian stable stays...I'll have a nosey now. Would love to ride the Cumbrian heavy horses too!

thecatinthetwat · 02/09/2023 23:56

Do something at an open mic night
go to a life drawing class
do a wine tasting
go to a French chateau
stay in one of those really quirky air bnb places
do a murder mystery weekend
go to a ball
do an aqua park obstacle thing
learn to dance or skate

continentallentil · 03/09/2023 00:11

Have a themed month from now till your birthday - so mushrooming September, stargazing October, knitting November - an old flatmate did this it was really fun

Read 5O things - not all books - ask people for their favourite poems, essays, articles - ask your mates

Go on a ranch riding holiday in the states or Argentina - or riding in Ireland or something

Subscribe to a horse rescue charity

Go wild swimming

Go on a cookery weekend - something you’ve always wanted to do or something you never thought you would like vegan

Go away on your own if you never have - could be a skyros holiday or a winter weekend in a b nb with a roaring fire.

Make something you’d like for the house - mosaic, set of mugs, stained glass window - sign up for a course

Do a Swedish death clean (not to put a dampener but it’s quite freeing I’m told)

Go on a meditation weekend

Pick 6 types of exercise to try over a year with the aim of adopting one

Go to Paris for lunch

Get rid of your smart phone and social media for a month

Have a session with a stylist

Plan your birthday party

Dye your hair an exciting colour or have a mad set of acrylics done

go to a Turkish Bath

Grow something new - lettuces or a rose for your birthday, whatever

Eat in the Clink restaurant

Have a make up lesson

Have an extra piercing

Subscribe to a magazine or two

Take yourself out for a jazzy lunch alone.

Do an improve or stand up class

Do a belly dancing or pole dancing glass

Aim to make one new friend

Great ideas here!

northernbeee · 03/09/2023 16:53

If you can't think of 50 things to do then maybe don't do them .. they can't be that important to you and surely thats the point of these things?

Whataretheodds · 03/09/2023 16:59

I think it will be a good idea for me to extend my time frame to 50 things to do from now until the end of my 50th year

This sounds like a great way to celebrate your 50th year!

Boredandbitter · 03/09/2023 20:21

Have a ballroom dancing lesson or go to bingo

The point of my OP was to get some ideas...the whole thing for me is to try new things and / or things I may not naturally gravitate towards.

Never mind, everyone else seems to have enjoyed the thread and it's given others food for thought 🤔

Hmmm I did used to ballroom dance but apart from a walz I don't think I could actually remember any of the dances now. Maybe I'll do a refresher.

Think I'll pop bongo bingo down!

Thanks for your massive list...loving these ideas. Think I'll be adding getting rid of my smart phone for a year, a make up lesson, an extra piercing and go away for a weekend alone! I'm off now to Google a Swedish death clean 🤣🤣
