Ok so I've come up with the above idea and wondered if any of you have done similar before a milestone birthday? If so I am looking for ideas and I have until May 2024 to complete.
My interests are horse riding, reading, walking/hiking, eating out and going to the gym. I don't really drink alcohol unless it's a special occasion.
So far I've got...

  1. Visit Iceland
  2. Climb Ben Nevis
  3. Climb Snowden
  4. Long weekend away with best pal abroad

As you can see I am 46 ideas short 😂😂 please help!!

Could a gym one be to do with a new pb like a certain max weight for a lift? Or if you like cardio could you enter a local 5k running race?

tanstaafl · 01/09/2023 03:26

Climb Scafell.

hollyblueivy · 01/09/2023 03:28

What about going to a festival? Even if just for a day?

If you like eating out there is the big feastival which is a bit of a foodie one so if you like eating out you could get to try certain banquet dining or see a celebrity chef. It's in August though but if it's your 50th you could have 2024 as a celebration year and spread the challenges out.

How about a visit to the David Austin Gardens and Tea Room, for a nice cuppa and slice of cake and you can pick up a beautiful David Austin rose to remind yourself of your milestone birthday.

i wouldn't do the pot holing one above, not if you want to see your 50th birthday Grin

Visit David Austin

For a truly wonderful day out, visit our award winning Rose Gardens and enjoy a stroll amongst the blooms. Full of inspiration, why not head to our Plant Centre to select a rose or two to take home. Finally, finish up with a bite to eat or a refreshing...

Visit one of the many islands around the UK
There's postcode generators on the net, do one and visit the place that randomly comes up.

There's scratch off posters you can get with 100 best books to read/100 greatest books of all time etc. Maybe you could get one of those and aim to read all of the books on the poster.

hinterkitten · 01/09/2023 06:50

I recently started making a similar list for 50 (though I have a few years to go)- so far just have:
Learn Spanish on duolingo
Take surfing lessons

If you like reading, have you been to Hay on Wye for the Hay Festival? Or that book shop Airbnb where you get to temporarily run a book shop (The Open Book in Wigtown)?

Lonicerax · 01/09/2023 06:55

I have been thinking of going to Ardnamurchan Point after a friend raving about how amazing the beaches were. It is mentioned on the shipping forecast on Radio4 - the inshore waters

Rattray Head – Berwick-upon-Tweed
Berwick-upon-Tweed – Whitby
Whitby – Gibraltar Point
Gibraltar Point – North Foreland
North Foreland – Selsey Bill
Selsey Bill – Lyme Regis
Lyme Regis – Land's End including the Isles of Scilly
Land's End – St David's Headincluding the Bristol Channel
St David's Head – Great Orme Head including St George's Channel
Great Orme Head – Mull of Galloway
Isle of Man
Lough Foyle – Carlingford Lough(covers the entire coastline of Northern Ireland)
Mull of Galloway – Mull of Kintyreincluding the Firth of Clyde and the North Channel

Oooh. I have a list. I'll update later. Need to go to work now.

whiteroseredrose · 01/09/2023 07:02

From memory DH's list included

Go around the Houses of Parliament

We never got round to a hot balloon ride or aquarium dive but he fancied those.
Learn some family history.

Sunnysideup999 · 01/09/2023 07:05

Fjord pony riding in Norway
learn piano?
get in touch with an old friend
creative writing course
art history course
(these are on mine :))

ShellySarah · 01/09/2023 07:06

Visit Iceland

That's all that belongs on your list imo.

I visited in June and I ran out of words to describe the beauty within 2 days.

I have never been so moved by nature before, I was moved to tears especially at Múlagljúfur Canyon.

It's hella expensive so plough your money into saving for that. I recommend a hiking trip along the south coast and also a trip north.

Whataretheodds · 01/09/2023 07:11

Go skinny dipping
Have a one night stand
Get up to watch the sunrise on the beach/peak of a mountain
Go to choral evensong in a cathedral
Visit the Tower of London
Ski
Paddleboard
Go to Paris for lunch (eurostar)
Visit 5 places that share your first initial
Volunteer in a soup kitchen

Gym goals?

LifeofBrienne · 01/09/2023 07:14

The things people are suggesting sound great but generally quite substantial in terms of visiting places/learning things. If you make a list of 50 things to do before May next year you’d need to be ticking them off at the rate of about two each week!

if you want to actually achieve the things on the list, I’d make the list a 50th birthday present to yourself - 50 things to do in the decade after you turn 50. Spend time properly planning it.

allthehops · 01/09/2023 07:17

Walk a long distance path?
