Name my house!

New house's name does not match at all, so has to change but the creative juices aren't flowing!

Some details:

  • Cotswold stone
  • Medium size so probably a 'Something House'
  • No especial stand out garden features
  • I rather like romantic sounding names

Help?

Stone House ;)
Lavender House ( you might have to plant some lavender!?)
Rose Cottage
Apple Blossom House
Any trees in the garden?

Spambod · 31/08/2023 16:37

Cotswold stone is known as limestone. The cotswolds were famous for lion sheep. I would have a look at what the local area and house are known for, any authors, artists, any abundant trees or specific species of wildlife. Something local and personal to the area or the actual house, any previous residents of note. Or you could just name it the stone house.

There's a stone house near me called Boscombe House. Which I always thought sounded quiet old poet/romantic.

Whatever you pick make sure it’s easy to spell.

bitter experience from my old rented house

cushioncovers · 31/08/2023 16:44

How old is it?

Toddler101 · 31/08/2023 16:46

How old is the house?
What is the area like? Any fields of flowers, meadows or lavender? Could name house after something local like that?
'Something View' House?
Any favourite authors? You could pick a place or character or use authors name to name your house?

I always like animal ones. These are some that have stuck in my head.
the fox den
The holt
Hoo House
Drey House
Rookeries
Burrows

you could always have something red kite related. They seem quite the Cotswold symbol now

muddyford · 31/08/2023 16:57

Golden House?

mooncloud1 · 31/08/2023 17:22

Thanks all, still pondering but have some of these on the short list! We definitely want to go for a nature themed pretty name and this has helped!

😂Boscombe is a district in Bournemouth which is well known for poverty and drug addicts. Lovely beach though and has lots of potential as a place, just the council wasted money on projects there not designed to actually help people.

Honeystone House

SlippySarah · 18/09/2023 20:44

Is the current name its original name? If its fairly old I would look to choosing something in keeping with the original name. I definitely don't think you should name it something twee unless it's quite new.

TomatoSandwiches · 18/09/2023 20:56

Butterstone House
Amber Hide
Pennycress Place
Delphinium Dwelling
Wagtail Way

👍

arabellaL · 18/09/2023 21:02

Honeystone House definitely the current favourite - the stone is literally the colour of honey, a deep Cotswold stone

arabellaL · 18/09/2023 21:17

There's one too close to us 😭 would love more suggestions! There are shells in the stone, something sea related?
