If you have one of these and recommend it that would be a bonus!

Audi Q5
BMW X3
Landrover Discovery Sport
Jaguar F Pace
Mercedes GLE
Nissan X-Trail
Vauxhall Tiguan

Bump!

Tiguan (it's a VW though, not a Vauxhall)

MrsRoxkwell · 30/08/2023 10:02

Yeah I don’t know why that says Vauxhall my phone must have auto corrected!

Depends what you need it to do!
e.g. the Discovery Sport has 7 seats - do you need that? It is possibly the least reliable on there

personally I wouldn't buy any of them (and I have had a number of Range Rovers and Jags) - I would look at the Skoda or SEAT equivalents to the Tiguan (which by the way is Volkswagen not Vauxhall!) You will get the same car / same warranty if new enough / same layout and interiors / but pay less - we have a Seat Ateca (Tiguan equivalent) and it is superb - the Skoda is a Karoq...

SabrinaThwaite · 30/08/2023 10:06

I wouldn’t go any of those.

Toyota RAV4.

geoger · 30/08/2023 10:13

Plz tell us more eg how many passengers, how much stuff needs to go in the boot, length of journeys?
I agree with the pp - look at Skodas, the Kodiaq or Karoq are very good cars, cheaper than VW and basically the same car (lease on my Tiguan - good car - ended and I’m getting a Skoda). Does it have to be an SUV? The Skoda Octavia estate is a fab car

Doggydarling · 30/08/2023 10:37

None of them. I'm a Skoda fan though. I've had a few Octavia's and now have a Superb Estate. They were all reliable comfortable and stylish. I have always gone for the L&K (Lauren and Klement) model but even the base models of Skoda are good. The car I have now is great, dgs gearbox, full leather, all safety features, seats a bit like myself, they blow hot and cold, it's 4x4, the leg room is incredible and the boot is massive which I love because I go camping. I've even folded the seats down and put my camping mattress in and slept in it when the weather was too bad to erect the tent. It really depends on your requirements, I don't need a 7 seater, seldom have passengers, need boot space and due to a chronic illness need the car to be automatic for long distances. I considered an Audi A6 and test drove one on the same day as the Skoda but found the Skoda far more comfortable and nicer to drive. I think make a list of what you need/want and work from that.

Delphigirl · 30/08/2023 10:44

I had a new bmw x3 - it is an absolutely fabulous car. Beautifully made, fast, holds the road well, good boot space, quite fuel economical. I say all that having come out of a Porsche macan. But I have recently swapped it for an ix3 and that is even better, if your lifestyle and driving needs can support a fully electric car. So relaxing as it is so quiet and no engine vibration, acceleration which is probably better than the macan turbo… and never going to a petrol station ever is fantastic. I have a v fast charger at home (have 3 phase electricity for some odd reason) but tbh it wouldn’t matter if it was less fast as it is just plugged in overnight. Real-time range of about 220-240 miles is enough for most of my journeys but I have driven it from oxford to St Andrews and back so it can manage long journeys with a bit of planning and the right apps.

Anothernamechangeee · 30/08/2023 10:45

I’d take a Volvo xc40/90 - any reason that isn’t already on your list?

Shade17 · 30/08/2023 10:46

SabrinaThwaite · 30/08/2023 10:06

I wouldn’t go any of those.

Toyota RAV4.

100% agree with this. Ditch the JLR products for a start. VW are no better than average for reliability these days. You don’t say what your budget is but maybe look at the Lexus RX.

MsLumley · 30/08/2023 10:48

Off your list, I’ve had a Tiguan and an F Pace. Love them both, never had any problems with either. The F Pace is a lovely comfortable car with just the right amount of space, but it comes at a price. Our Tiguan was practical, had good boot space and was nice to drive and was a lot cheaper than the F Pace. I assume from your list that you’re looking for comfort rather than practicality.

MrsRoxkwell · 30/08/2023 10:48

2 adults and 2 children, a pram and lots of long weekends away so need a big boot space. I want something with lots of tech inside and looks nice. I finally am able to afford a car that’s not a banger so I want it to be a good one! Currently have an Audi A4 estate but I want something higher up which is why I’m looking at an suv.

LOL! It won’t even come close to the performance of a Macan Turbo.

I second Skoda. We had a really bad crash in 2022 and our Skoda Octavia held up so well - it was definitely a key factor in us all walking away from it. We replaced the written-off car with another Skoda (Kodaq this time). You get a lot of car/features for your money with Skoda.

Volkswagen is very similar to Skoda so if I had a gun to my head to stick to your list, I'd opt for the Tiguan.

cheezncrackers · 30/08/2023 10:57

Have you test driven any of them OP? I think that's what's missing from your research. You will quickly form opinions about them if you take them out for a spin and see how comfortable they are, what the acceleration is like, how spacious, whether you like the dashboard layout, whether the navigation system is intuitive and easy to use or not, whether you like the look of the interior, etc.

vinoandbrie · 30/08/2023 11:00

F Pace!

MrsRoxkwell · 30/08/2023 11:03

I haven’t Test driven any yet as I’m finding it so difficult to be able to! The salesmen all want to sit down and go through all the finance stuff when I literally just want to drive the car before I even think about it. It’s a bit of a nightmare.

Hyundai Tucson that launched in 2021, not the older model

Have one, superb vehicle. Love the mpg I get with the hybrid engine, keyless entry/button start. Brilliant nav & phone system.

Would highly recommend

CornishGem1975 · 30/08/2023 11:08

Audi Q5 from your list but in reality I'd go for a Hyundai Santa Fe.

TropicalTrama · 30/08/2023 11:30

Landrover Discovery Sport
Jaguar F Pace
Don’t touch with a barge pole, they’re absolute magnets for thieves and weaknesses in the software make it all too easy. My Discovery Sport is 3 years old, has been recalled twice, apparently this time they’re attempting to do something about all the thefts with another software patch but I’m really worried about taking it in because last time they forgot to update the gearbox and it literally died whilst I was driving, thankfully only on a local road and not the motorway.

My previous car was a Tiguan and that was great although if I’m being really picky the interior felt a bit cheap. Super practical and great value though. I’ve also had a Q5 as a rental and it was really nice to drive.

I’d add to your list the Volvo XC40 or 60 - SIL has the 40 and I’ve driven it a few times and love it.

CrotchetyQuaver · 30/08/2023 11:33

Avoid Land Rovers, they're all buggers for reliability issues. My DD has a Tiguan and it's been very good.

That’s why they say if you want to go into th desert - take a Land Rover. If you want to come back again - take a Toyota.

hennaoj · 30/08/2023 12:48

Find one of each make and model that you want but is slightly different to what you want, e.g. different trim level and older. Tell dealer you are paying in full. Test drive them than say not what you are looking for. Plus if the vehicle is older than what you are after it gives you a good idea of how it ages.

Have you owned both cars? I have. The ix3 in sport mode is just as fast from standing as the macan turbo.

Audi Q5
