Are pelotons worth it?

As someone who doesn't have a time or effort to go to the gym, I do have space in my garage to make a mini gym, I'm debating getting a peloton and maybe some weights, but I wondered whether a peloton is worth it?

I could do, that is a option @Lucyboat

maybebalancing · 27/08/2023 16:39

Have you had previous gym equipment at home that you haven't used?
If you have what would be different about this?
If you haven't how much money can you afford to lose if you don't use it?

I’ve had one for four years, and yes they are worth every penny.

lousia564 · 27/08/2023 16:49

@maybebalancing I currently have a cheap second hand treadmill that I have had a break from being used due to having a child but I have started using it again.

I need lose a good 15 kilos and thought a peloton may help me keep motivated

Shadesofscarlett · 27/08/2023 16:50

i have the bike + and I love it - I cycle daily, do meditations, strength classes with weights, barre, outdoor walks etc. Loads on the app.

RockaLock · 27/08/2023 16:56

Does Peloton still do the 30 day trial? If so, you have nothing to lose by trying it out, as if you don't get on with it you can just return it.

We bought one 2 years ago. I hate going to the gym, hate running, and had never done a spin class before.

2 years on and I am still using it 3-4 times a week, as are DH and DS1. I think they're worth every penny.

Iheartwhitetshirts · 27/08/2023 16:58

It’s the best purchase we ever made. Totally worth it especially if you’re time-poor.

Greentime101 · 27/08/2023 16:58

3 months ago I managed to get a 2nd hand Peloton from Facebook marketplace for £700 came with mat, shoes etc - I’m delighted with it

Wellhellother · 27/08/2023 17:01

100% worth it. We love ours and use it most days, even if it is just a quick 10 minute high intensity class some days. So many class choices to prevent boredom and so much nicer to ride that most spinning bikes

lousia564 · 27/08/2023 17:35

Thanks, seen a second hand one nearby is up for £550

I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who bought one and doesn’t consider it to be the best thing they’ve ever done.

It’s not just the bike or classes, it’s the community, the routine, the fact that it works around your life which is what makes it brilliant.

Greentime101 · 27/08/2023 19:00

Appreciate what Lucy boat is saying so also remember it’s £39 per month - but it’s magic! And as far as I’m concerned I would not bother with a £100 other bike it would not get used

UnderCarraigeWoes · 27/08/2023 19:07

The guide is actually better than the bike but the bikes ok.

Selfesteem23 · 27/08/2023 19:12

I’ve got a spin bike which you can buy under £500 and use free you tube spin classes or Les mills. Attachment to put my phone on my bike and away I go. I’ve done this for years and it’s so much cheaper. I don’t care about the communities and all that though.

TOWGA · 27/08/2023 19:18

Yes name change failure! @Lucyboat

The only reason I'm asking is my parents have given me some money for my birthday and want to be spend it on something for myself!

Is les mills any good?

I bought a JTX spin bike during lockdown and use free spin classes on You Tube 3 timed a week. No way would i pay Peleton prices.

Kangarude · 27/08/2023 19:29

I love my Peloton.. I've had it 3 years and there's not a day I don't do something. Ride, weights, stretching etc. Best investment I ever made.

Same. I love mine. Recommended to my friend and she bought one and also loves it

1AnotherOne · 27/08/2023 19:32

I have the bike and treadmill. Favour the treadmill and the weights, pilates and yoga classes. You could do the treadmill classes on yours using an iPad

faban · 27/08/2023 19:33

I absolutely love ours. We got it when I was 38 weeks pregnant and irs been a life changer for us

hazelnutlatte · 27/08/2023 19:34

I love my peloton but they are not for everyone. As you already have a treadmill, try using it with the peloton app (peloton do a treadmill as well as the bike, and you can do the classes on any treadmill) I think you can try the app for 30 days for free.
If you love the tread classes then that might help you decide if you would also like the bike.

faban · 27/08/2023 19:34

The classes are fantastic

lousia564 · 28/08/2023 20:50

Thanks all I have paired up my phone to my normal treadmill tonight, and used a peloton walk/run it was brilliant. Defo gonna keep going with the classes
