Lucy Letby - new thread (part 2)

anonymousamy · 26/08/2023 22:32

A thread for anyone who was on the last one and wanted to continue the discussion.

What I cannot wrap my head around is Letby’s seemingly completely normal upbringing. Usually serial killers have displayed some kind of markers by the time they start killing, but AFAIK she literally had none. 100% believe she is guilty BTW - just cannot begin to understand it.

"Dewi Evans is a registered expert for police work nationally."

There are 13 registered experts for neonatal deaths, 2 for perinatal deaths, 1 for sudden infant death,8 for unexpected infant deaths, 3 for unnatural deaths,13 for death of babies, 8 for unexpected death of babies, 1 for cot death, 14 for paediatric deaths, and 7 for unexpected child deaths. Dewi Evans is not registered under any of these categories.

Are you getting that from the UK Register of Expert Witnesses, @Cailleachian?

Cailleachian · 27/08/2023 20:47

@Seashellies Inadequate representation is grounds for appeal.
@JanieEyre Yes

JanieEyre · 27/08/2023 20:47

I can find far more motivation for the consultants framing her than I can for Letby causing the deaths

It's well established that evidence of motive is not necessary in order to establish guilt.

Good luck with that, Ben Myers is a highly respected and well regarded defence lawyer who has worked on many high profile and complex cases. It'd take a fair amount to discredit his work I'd imagine.

@Boudicasbeard@Seashellies

It's hard to fine the links at the moment it's all letby at the top of the page if you look specifically for the countess. But look for Cheshire east and west data and use your brians.

There were 25 neonatal deaths in 2017/18 in Cheshire east and Cheshire west. 10 were Cheshire east and 15 cheshire west.

Well you only have countess is Cheshire west (Chester) and leighton hospital in Cheshire east (crewe) that have neonatal departments. All other hospitals are really clinics.

paintityellow · 27/08/2023 20:56

There are some deeply disturbing people on this thread:

People treating this tragedy as if it were an episode of Morse.
People taking snapshots of her parents relationship with Lucy and using them to come up with unsubstantiated and sinister accusations and motivations for her behaviour.
People implying that not being married or having children in her 20s would quite obviously lead her to such jealousy that she would kill other people's babies.

There are some pretty unpleasant people on this thread, with such a lack of empathy they cannot see this as a real and traumatic event, and not an opportunity to play Miss Marple.

I thought as much, @Cailleachian. You seem to be treating that Register as something equivalent to official registers of doctors, lawyers etc, i.e. that you cannot be a professional unless you are on that register.

Essentially it's a means for people such as lawyers to look for experts in any particular discipline, and in particular it's a way for experts to get work. There is absolutely no requirement for experts to be on that register, and although experts are vetted the primary means of doing that is requiring them to provide references which is hardly foolproof. Simple logic demonstrates that very good experts have no need to be on that register because they get more than enough work simply by virtue of their reputation generally.

I tried looking up experts in a field of expertise I know a lot about. There were only 7 names in a field where I know of at least 10 people whose reports are generally recognised as carrying a lot of weight; I recognised one name of someone I don't particularly rate, and the others just weren't there. Again, I'm quite sure that the ten quality experts aren't on that list because they have no need of referrals through the register - they are all extremely busy and if anything are turning away work.

So I suspect that, if anything, the fact the Dewi Evans is not on that register is a testament to the quality of his work.

Cailleachian · 27/08/2023 21:04

Oh I do see it as real and traumatic events, believe me.

Seventeen babies died at that hospital in 2 years, where sewage was bubbling up from the washbasins and dripping through the ceilings and now a young nurse is facing the rest of her life in jail, this is a complete scandal.

One in a long line of them.

Edited

I found the board report which showed very low numbers for 2022. You can request a FOI if you're concerned, but I'd be mindful of where you're getting the figures from if it's worrying you. You can attend a different hospital though if you want, anyone can if they so choose.

Gpnever · 27/08/2023 20:10

I have always thought that if she was guilty she probably murdered the first one by accident or negligence, and this was what clued her into the excitement and attention of doing it again. When you look at the methods they reckon she used, the air embolus, for example, she could have set a drip up wrong and realised too late she hadn’t primed the line, leading to a collapse. She sees no one suspects, gets the glory for helping, and does it again and again.

Yes. And because she had no conscience there was nothing inside of her saying 'No, I must not do this. It is so wrong.' She enjoyed the results of her murder so saw absolutely no reason to not do it again. Because in Letby's world there is only Letby and what she wants. Nothing else matters.

Would be interested to know if she had pets growing up and if any of them died unexpectedly?

Even LL acknowledged that the insulin must have been purposefully administered for 2 of the babies, did the sewage do this?

BIossomtoes · 27/08/2023 21:10

So sewage inserted air bubbles into babies’ veins, overfed them and injected insulin overdoses into them? Clever old stuff, this shit.

OneSugar1 · 27/08/2023 21:12

And don’t forget that her defence team were thick/corrupt

JanieEyre · 27/08/2023 21:13

Cailleachian · 27/08/2023 20:26

I have no idea why the defence case was so weak, but on a positive note I think its potentially grounds for appeal.

It really isn't.

There is simply nothing to suggest that Letby's defence didn't do everything they humanly could. The strongest likelihood is that they didn't call expert evidence because the experts they did consult did not support her case.

Seashellies · 27/08/2023 21:13

Wild isn't it. Its good to question things but when there aren't sensible 'arguments' it becomes quite bizarre.

MikeRafone · 27/08/2023 21:14

But it seems not, some folks don’t know this and think if you are not seen doing it, then you get away with it. You can murder anyone you wish as long as you do it when no one is watching.

of Course just because I wasn’t seen administering poison to my great aunt, who was wealthy. It doesn’t mean I won’t leave foot prints, DNA and finger prints, along with poison inside the aunts body. All evidence, that can be used to trace my whereabouts.

LL was working half the day or night with these patients. Who else was present when 22 babies died out of 30?

CakeForAll21 · 27/08/2023 21:15

@Seashellies

Yeah I am going to request Leighton in crewe as the countess is still downgraded so does not take the sickest of babies. They go to crewe anyways. Which is a weird thing to say given chester is a city and predominantly middle class. Crewe is a poor town with a population a 1/3rd of Chester.

I think less people give birth at the countess now so the over baby numbers are down. Like I said people normally wouldn't opt for crewe over chester so that might have been a factor before this came out.

MisschiefMaker · 27/08/2023 20:29

Well with hindsight we now know that the "experts" were talking a crock of shit with their exaggerated Covid forecasts so maybe we'd have been better off listening to the armchair virologists rather than just accepting what we were told like good little school girls!

We don't know that, in fact. Numbers were not as dire as some forecasts primarily because (a) infection precautions were reasonably effective and (b) we threw everything at developing and administering vaccines.

Boudicasbeard · 27/08/2023 21:18

@Cailleachian

You haven’t answered my question.

The list of facts you have put forward about where and how the police found Dewi Evans totally contradicts the statements made by police about the timing and process of the investigation.

Are you accusing Chester police of lying?

DyslexicPoster · 27/08/2023 21:23

OhComeOnFFS · 27/08/2023 14:10

Again, according to reports, her Dad tidied her room and made her bed after she was arrested (on suspicion of murder!)

Well, if my daughter was arrested by the police on suspicion of murder and I was in her house, I'd tidy up for something to do. I'd be beside myself and would more than likely be scrubbing floors and cleaning the windows, too. Physical activity when you're under intense stress can really help. If he'd just driven back to his home at that point he probably wouldn't have driven safely.

I don't think it's weird either. Imagine your son was arrested for suspected drug dealing. How bizarre would it be to tidy up after the police had searched it? If you thought your son was innocent and would be upset to come home and see the ransacked room. If you loved your son?

It's so tenuous I can see how women was burnt at the stake in this room tidying example.

I would be curious to know the answer to this too.

CakeForAll21 · 27/08/2023 21:25

@Boudicasbeard

No idea what your grievance with the other poster is but I wouldn't put it past Cheshire police to not lie...

My neighbour is a police officer in Cheshire and he is a right dick. He lies all the time. Honestly hes a neigbour from hell and reporting him to Cheshire police is even more hellish.

JanieEyre · 27/08/2023 21:27

Seventeen babies died at that hospital in 2 years, where sewage was bubbling up from the washbasins and dripping through the ceilings and now a young nurse is facing the rest of her life in jail, this is a complete scandal.

If that sort of issue was the cause of the deaths, there would be massive evidence of infection. It just wasn't there.

CakeForAll21 · 27/08/2023 21:36

Seriously some of you need some context about Cheshire and what life is like here. Its one of the least densely populated areas of the country. The police tend to deal with drink driving and livestock on roads or being nicked. They are not a particularly developed police force. Most officers would never even see a violent crime here nevermind a serial murderer.

I would suspect that the police were not the best so the evidence is probs a bit small townish for some of you. Chester is a city but its basically a large town. The population of the whole of Cheshire east and west is about the size of Nottingham.

Personal the countess is clearly a dodgy hospital regardless so hoping that this trial is not the end of the matter.

Boudicasbeard · 27/08/2023 21:43

@CakeForAll21

Have you watched the three part video from
Operation Humming Bird. They had 60 detectives working the case. The lead officer is very clear how careful they were. All the information about the case is out there- nothing is hidden.

Yet instead people are talking about their feelings and bringing in made up ‘facts’ from some dodgy Reddit thread.

It may well by that Chester police are generally dreadful. But this was a multi million pound investigation that was funded by the Home Office, not your every day burglary.

My grievance is that the other poster is making claims that aren’t supported by the published (and legally sworn) facts. To accuse the police of lying about where they found an expert or accuse that person of not being an expert is a huge deal. I would expect to see something substantial to support that claim.
