I’ve visited every county in England, apart from Kent.

Dds asked what counties I’ve been to and after looking at the map I realised I have properly physically visited all of them (not just driven through), apart from Kent.

I think I should go to Kent now even though it’s a total pain in the arse to get to from where I live in the north west.

What would draw a person to Kent?

@Phos I doubt you did - assuming you were there after 1 April 1965 - the date on which Local Government changes moved part of Kent into the London Boroughs (prinicaply London Borough of Bromley).

I never understand these people who say they live in "Kent" or "Surrey" when they are in a part of London.

Its simply one of those anomalies that those of us from south London understand, it stands for all the outer London boroughs

Bromley/Bexley is in Kent but are also London boroughs
Croydon/Sutton is in Surrey but are also London boroughs

and so on

@bellac so under what formal definition other than what someone may "think" is Bromley in Kent today?

Some v pretty villages.
Loved Kent growing up.

Chatham Dockyard is amazing, really interesting even if you're not into ships generally.

Because its in the address for everyone living in the BR postcode

I dont really know why people take such umbridge about this, as Ive explained millions of people who live in all of the outer London boroughs are comfortable with the concept of living in two different entities. Not sure why its bothering you so much

I live in nearby Deal and spend a lot of time in Margate/Ramsgate/Broadstairs.

Broadstairs is very pretty and has a lovely seafront.

Margate has a thriving art and music scene. The Turner Contemporary and the Carl Freedman Galley always have some great shows on. Tracey Emin has started an art foundation there last year with an art school, studio spaces and a gallery space with regular events open to the public. The Old Town has some great shops & restaurants.

The port of Ramsgate is lovely.

These towns have got better and better over the years and they all have the high-speed train line to London so are easy to get to/visit.

I also had heard mixed review about Thanet before I moved to Deal but when I experienced it for myself I realised that people are in fact really friendly, laid back and that the area is improving.

All the councils in Dover and Thanet are now Labour since the last local elections so there is also nothing to the idea that this was/is Farage territory.

Frankly I wish people would stop making blanket statement like this about an area like Thanet because it is just snobbery...

People in Bromley saying they live in Kent is as ridiculous as someone who lives in Dublin saying they are in UK as this was the case pre December 1922.

Castles, canals, the downs , glorious beaches, fabulous country walks & pubs, loads of water sports, sea safaris, rare breed centres, wild life parks, free adventure parks,champagne bars, really good restaurants, lots of independent shops, light railway, dungeresss, local seafood, old fashioned fairgrounds, art centres
Quex house, cathedrals, Dover Castle tunnels it's endless

I think it's a nice idea to purposefully do.

And if you fancy it you can go to France for lunch

We used to live in Biggin Hill which is in Kent and just a few miles from Bromley.

Kent Live suggests its in Greater London.

I quite fancy doing this. I've only been to about half the counties.

The coast - Joss bay, Botany Bay, Whistable, Deal, camber sands
Bewl Water
Margate - definitely improving, especially by the beach, with nicer little cafes and shops, Turner exhibition, etc, nice beach,

TBF - counties aren't usually in post code addresses when you use the postcode finder.

So many castles! I guess that makes sense given it’s geographical location. Dh will be thrilled, he loves a good castle (I prefer a good castle grounds).

I live in Derbyshire but the area I live in does not have a Derbyshire postcode. There are a few areas like that.

Turner exhibition at Margate also sounds good.

See I would have been all captain sneery if someone had suggested Margate as a place to visit before this thread.

@cakeorwine The Royal mail address and post code finder is your "official" address and that is what is used on the electoral register. Hence the Bromley address I have shown does not include Kent and people who add it are just doing it out of cutsom.

I am sure the OP will say North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire and then East Riding of Yorkshire.
