How much do you obsess over weather forecasts before a holiday?

I know it's not helpful.

I CANNOT stop.

To be fair, I haven't had an abroad holiday in years, and off to Spain this weekend. Beyond desperate for lots of sun, cannot get off the weather apps. My mood is dictated minute to minute by the changing forecasts.

Some days are now forecast to be partly cloudy 😭

Do you do this too?

(Lighthearted- up to a point!!)

I could have written this op!

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 24/08/2023 09:33

This time, yes, because forecast was for stinking bloody hot (SW France, and it is. 40 deg and humid. 😩

YouNeverCanTellWithBees · 24/08/2023 09:46

Yep because we holiday in the UK and I need to plan activities to suit weather! DH thinks I'm crazy but my weather watching meant we were on the beach for the sunny days and made the most of them!

Some holidays require more careful checks than others. On our third trip to snowdonia after the first two had been unsuitable weather for walking up snowdon with a kid, DH checked the weather very carefully. We arrived at the top through the mists just as - per the met office 'snowdon summit' forecast - the clouds broke for an hour or so and we had glorious views.

My win was an Easter trip to Turkey - as we were leaving the house DH asked why I was picking up my raincoat. He was glad I'd checked the forecast when we were caught in a downpour in Miletus!

Don't check the BBC weather app.. you nerd to check the local one.
I'm lucky to go abroad at least 6 times a year.. l used to be like this and 9 times out of 10 it wasn't correct and the weather was always excellent.

EvenlyDetermined · 25/08/2023 14:46

Yes, we are in the Med and I have been worried about it being too hot and humid, fortunately it has been bearable. We don't tend to visit this area in summer normally, preferring more temperate weather.

Not so much for UK holidays, but do check when deciding what to pack.

Haretest · 25/08/2023 14:57

Going to the Canary Islands and it's going to be low 20s ConfusedConfused not what I expected (or wanted!)

doroda · 25/08/2023 15:02

Yes. And then I keep the location on the weather app and look at it once we're home too, and feel annoyed that we had a day of rain but it's now sunshine all week 😂

Fizbosshoes · 25/08/2023 15:03

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 23/08/2023 22:33

For summer sun abroad - not at all!

For camping in the UK - at least 3 times a day for weeks ahead.

Haha same. Well I might look a couple of times to get a general idea of temperature.
With camping yes multiple times a day!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/08/2023 15:11

I found the met office app ok on a recent trip to Norway, once I was there - when I was in the U.K. it only seemed to be able to find Oslo and Bergen, not smaller towns, but those showed up after we arrived.

Spud90 · 25/08/2023 15:22

If we’re going camping then I look multiple times a day which is pointless because it changes every hour but I can’t help it! I need to be prepared if it’s going to rain a lot. If going abroad I don’t look very much just once or twice. We’ve just got back from mallorca and the forecast said 30-32 degrees but it was actually 40 so it’s not very accurate anyway.

IsisoftheWalbrook · 25/08/2023 15:45

Camping: yes
Skiing: yes
Summer hols: no

SgtPercyTwentyman · 25/08/2023 17:36

Never bother. Since I decided I was too old for camping (in fact too old for anything with less than 3-stars) what's it matter?

Tiddlywinks63 · 25/08/2023 17:40

I don’t. I have a quick look and then pack accordingly. If it’s a holiday in this country i pack for all weathers!

Crunchymum · 25/08/2023 17:56

Haven't been abroad for 7 years but we've had 2 or 3 UK breaks a year.

I become a tad obsessed with the weather forecast for our main summer holiday I must say (based mainly on said English beach holidays always being an absolute fucking joke in terms of weather - even last year when we actually had a decent summer we seemed to pick the one place that didn't 😑)

On the upside I don't stress as much when we go away at Easter / October half term and we've had lovely weather on a few occasions here.

I suspect I'll be pretty obsessed when we do eventually go abroad given that weather would be our primary motivation to spend all that money.

We're off to Barcelona tomorrow where according to some weather places it's going to rain for the 7 days we're there then back to glorious sunshine and I've not just read there's a weather warning for storms and rain on our first day.
Just finished packing and can tell already I'm over the weight limit because I've had to pack day time outfits now as well. Raging!

cheesetriangles · 25/08/2023 18:18

Admittedly I do! I want to know what to wear on the plane. If it’s not warm I’ll stick to long sleeves/leggings but if it is going to be warm I might dress for the summer and put up with feeling chilly in the airport

Maggiemaggieooo · 25/08/2023 18:38

I holiday in the UK only due to no pp but I don't let the weather bother me tbh I don't camp though if I did I probably would

Merapi · 25/08/2023 18:45

I only do this when I have a gardening weekend coming (looks out of the window at wild jungle).

squeaker50 · 25/08/2023 18:55

All the time!

Ginmonkeyagain · 25/08/2023 19:06

Oh god yes, I check obsessively and then leave previous holiday destinations saved so I cam torment myself over winter.

GettingStuffed · 25/08/2023 19:34

I'm off to Southampton next weekend I'm obsessively checking the forecast

mewkins · 25/08/2023 19:52

Oh yes. For rain in the UK and too high temperatures when going abroad 😁

Nugg · 25/08/2023 19:54

Fuck yes. I go on holiday for wall to wall sun. Anything less and I'm as Mardy as my wide arse! 😂
