A TV show you really wanted to like...

But just couldn't.
I really wanted to love World On Fire. It seemed really up my street but Lois is so annoying that it's put me right off. There seems to be no depth to any of the characters and Harry seems like an AI person. I could just about hang on for season 2 but the awful green screen in the desert has put me right off.

Justleaveitblankthen · 22/08/2023 23:03

And Just Like That.

Lasted until the Miranda Kitchen sex scene 🤢
Horrendous.

I keep trying the Bear. It's right up my street, I should love it. But alas

Mrsjayy · 22/08/2023 23:06

That's absolutely dreadful, I watch hiding behind my hands.

xogossipgirlxo · 23/08/2023 01:13

Call the midwife. So boring 😢

user1471521072 · 23/08/2023 01:29

I wish I liked the "new" All Creatures Great and Small because my sister likes it, but I always feel slightly disappointed when we're watching it. I loved the original ACGAS because Robert Hardy, Peter Davison and Christopher Timothy were so good. I liked everything about the old series, so I never really enjoy the new version of the series.

Game of Thrones. My nephew loves Game of Thrones. The only characters I like are Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) and Ygritte (Rose ??). Oh, and the fire-breathing dragons. I would not be able to sit through that whole series. My nephew is watching it right now. He watches it over and over again.

Furries · 23/08/2023 01:38

Schitts Creek
Succession - I REALLY wanted to like this. Watched it all, massively underwhelmed.

Game of Thrones I did like. Only started watching it a few months before the final season. The first 2 seasons were a bit “iffy” with some aspects, but it then got better and I really enjoyed seeing how each character’s story arc progressed and linked back at the same time.

I loved Breaking Bad. Really didn’t see how Better Call Saul could follow-on from that. I loved it, was a great spin-off.

WeetabixTowels · 23/08/2023 01:45

Killing Eve.

Theres some REALLY funny moments (rat with the coke can being my favourite) but otherwise it was absolutely overrated bollocks. I remember switching off after watching one scene of a terrified man screaming and running terrified through an open plan office as Jodie Comer casually strolls towards him with a pen knife in her her hand. As if a grown man wouldn’t just thump her! He certainly wouldn’t be so hysterical . Ridiculous

samuelclemens · 23/08/2023 01:45

Not a TV series but I couldn’t stand Twilight, the books and the films. The first film came out when I was a teenager and so many friends absolutely loved it.
I love Harry Potter but for some reason just hated Twilight and all the characters.

Netaporter · 23/08/2023 01:47

GOT. 84 hours of my life I’ll never get back. Tried to like it, but fantasy/sci-fi is just not my bag. Ditto anything Marvel/DC/Star Wars/Terry Pratchett.

Love Schitts Creek, Yellowstone, Flea bag, Miranda, Killing Eve, Breaking Bad etc. AJLT has got better in S2 but agree about the 🤢 sex scene in S1.

TiggeryBear · 23/08/2023 02:44

Manifest - it seemed completely the sort of thing I'd enjoy but it was absolutely, bloody terrible. I think it would have made a better film than the awful series it turned out to be. I really couldn't stand it.

Twilight is dreadful.
Horrible men controlling women because sparkly vampires.
No.

lastseasonstop · 23/08/2023 06:20

Killing Eve
Firefly Lane.

Tried with both.

NewYorkFirstTimer · 23/08/2023 06:23

The West Wing. All the characters are loud and annoying

heartsinvisiblefury · 23/08/2023 06:28

Only Murders in the building- hated it

WeWereInParis · 23/08/2023 06:31

Bridgeton should be right up my street, because I love period dramas and Shonda Rhimes but I didn't get past episode 1.

Killing Eve I really wanted to like as well. I love both the main actresses, and it really seemed like something I'd enjoy. I've started it a couple of times but I've never got into it.

WeWereInParis · 23/08/2023 06:33

Donut22 · 22/08/2023 22:55

Games of thrones!! Currently watching it and I'm just bored but committed with it 😂also not a series but Harry Potter!! I've tried so much but even my kids can't sit thur it either, I just don't understand the fasinaton with it 🤔

Have you read Harry Potter? Because I'm a big fan but I don't think the films work without the books, they miss too much out.

floribunda18 · 23/08/2023 06:34

Gentleman Jack definitely, I found the main character like nails down a blsckboatd. Normally I enjoy Sally Wainwright and Suranne Jones programmes.

iamthattree · 23/08/2023 06:46

GoT - watched the first series but got too uncomfortable with it and the constant rapey-ness of it. I don't know if that calmed down but it felt a bit like it was making distressing sexual behaviour entertaining.

Succession - just didn't grab me.

White Lotus - fell asleep

The Bear - seemed a bit too mannered and a bit dull.

I do love schitts creek/Ted lasso/Bridgerton though so perhaps I am just not highbrow enough!

And Just Like That is funny but perhaps not in the way they intend.

MoChridhe · 23/08/2023 06:49

Sanditon
The Time Travellers Wife
Only murders in the building
Bear
Yellowstone
Line of duty
Succession
Ted Lasso after the first season was a struggle.

I couldn't get past episode 4 or 5 in most of them. Peaky blinders I don't get the hype, didn't watch after season 2.

Words · 23/08/2023 06:49

The Gallows Pole. The novel is a masterpiece. The TV series was absolutely appalling. I think it's the worst thing I have ever seen on TV.

floribunda18 · 23/08/2023 06:50

Killing Eve is ok, I'm just watching S1 now. It's only the Eve character that is keeping me watching, otherwise I could take it or leave it. When it came out I was really into Keeping Faith, which is much better and far less hyped.

Breaking Bad I don't fancy at all and I managed one episode of The Wire and Mad Men.

World on Fire I'm only watching because of Lesley Manville and Mark Bonnar. Harry and Lois needed a doodlebug with their names on in episode 1.

Things I love(d): Shetland, Line of Duty, Unforgotten, The Split, Annika, Happy Valley, Keeping Faith, Bodyguard, Strike, Dr Foster.

floribunda18 · 23/08/2023 06:51

White Lotus is one of the worst programmes I"ve ever seen.
