Is anyone following the cable car rescue in Pakistan?

It's utterly horrifying. 6 children and 2 teachers trapped. They've been in there for over ten hours, 900 feet above the ground, but it seems that they've just rescued 1 child. Hopefully the others can be brought to safety soon.

I saw this on the bbc, it's my absolute worst nightmare. I really hope they're all safely down soon.

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 14:49

it's my absolute worst nightmare.

Same. I'm petrified of heights and can't imagine ever going on a cable car but those poor people had no real choice.

They've confirmed that one child has been rescued. Hopefully they can rescue the other 7 ASAP before it gets too dark.

Now another child has been rescued.

Gosh how awful, I hadn’t seen this before

Stories like this of being trapped are just horrendous

WhiteFire · 22/08/2023 15:11

Good news that they are starting to be rescued.

My 17 year old said she wouldn't moan about having to catch a bus to college again after hearing that this is their daily school commute.

The cable car up sulphur mountain in Banff stopped a couple of weeks ago due to a power cut during a thunderstorm. Those who were on it were brought down using back up power but close to 300 who were already at the summit had to stay overnight and either hike down (there is a footpath) or get helicoptered off the next morning.

This Pakistan one sounds very Heath Robinson but understandable in the terrain. I hope the outcome is positive.

MNetcurtains · 22/08/2023 15:57

There was another incident in Pakistan, apparently, 21 people died. This is a really risky rescue.

SirVixofVixHall · 22/08/2023 16:00

Terrifying. I hope they can safely rescue the remaining children and adult.

GeorgeSpeaks · 22/08/2023 16:01

When will it get dark there?

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 16:02

Yes. It's extremely risky for both those trapped and their rescuers.

It's terrible reading about other cable car accidents on the BBC. Hopefully this will be one of the positive stories.

How awful. Looks like they have a good rescue mission going on though.

DH and I were on a very high cable car just last week and I was pondering how we would be rescued if it got stuck!

hattie43 · 22/08/2023 16:11

Horrific . I can think of nothing worse .

Whinge · 22/08/2023 16:14

The most recent update says the helicopter has stopped for the night. Do we think that means it's unlikely anyone else is being rescused until tomorrow?

It's truly a horrible situation, and the thought of them spending the night up there is terrifying.

rainbowstardrops · 22/08/2023 16:17

How terrifying for them all! I'd be hysterical as an adult, let alone those poor children.

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 16:19

They're still continuing with rescue efforts with the help of local people but not via helicopter. The thought of being trapped like that really is unbearable. Their poor families are of course also going through hell.

As I hate heights and I’m claustrophobic this would be my worse nightmare.
I just hope everyone gets safely rescued.

FrenchFancie · 22/08/2023 16:23

This is like my worst nightmare - I hate cable cars. We sometimes go on holiday in the alps and I have to control myself every time I use them.

i don’t like watching along with this sort of this thing, it feels a little ghoulish to be honest.

Walkingbackwardsupsidedown · 22/08/2023 16:27

Horrifying situation.

I don't like to read news stories until rescues are complete. Does anyone know how old the kids are? Could they have been up there alone if the teacher had gotten into another cable car or is there always an adult in each car with children. Very glad that they had an adult with them anyways!

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 16:27

Between 10 and 16.

Sounds like a real life nightmare 😯

HelpaFriend85 · 22/08/2023 17:01

Because of the terrain they use the cable cars to commute to school. The adults are two teachers!

I read this article minute's after booking tickets for the cable car in Barcelona next week? Hope everyone is safely rescued. Poor people.

ClaraThePigeon · 22/08/2023 17:18

The locals rescued the second child by zip line which is insane. Well done to them. That's an incredible achievement at that height.
