It's utterly horrifying. 6 children and 2 teachers trapped. They've been in there for over ten hours, 900 feet above the ground, but it seems that they've just rescued 1 child. Hopefully the others can be brought to safety soon.

Oh that's fantastic news. I was really worried they would be stuck there overnight. It must have been terrifying for them.

What wonderful news. I hope that everyone is ok, especially the boy with a heart condition. What absolutely incredible work by the army, pilots, locals and the experts who were brought in.

Wow, all rescued! Thank goodness.

They did a fantastic job to rescue them because initially the helicopter was making the cable car sway even more.

There's a lovely clip on the BBC news app of one of them being rescued and the crowd's relief. It's so good to see Smile

I just watched that clip. What an incredible sight. It's wonderful to hear some good news especially after the terrible news from Greece today.

I can't get over how terrifying this must have been . The video of the first passenger bobbing about on a line attached to the helicopter is horrifying.

Most were rescued by a zip wire approach

Army bring in zip line experts to continue rescue efforts Farhat Javed
BBC Urdu senior journalist, reporting from Islamabad
I've been speaking to an army officer about this huge rescue operation, now that darkness has fallen.
Efforts are continuing on the ground after army helicopters were stood down for the night.
The army has brought in zip line operators and rescuers from a private company in the Naran region, the officer says.
“These [civilians carrying out rescue operation now] are not normal locals but are the cable and zip line experts who have been brought in on helicopters by [the] army from various areas of [the] northern region to get benefit from their expertise," he adds.

This is like my worst nightmare - I hate cable cars. We sometimes go on holiday in the alps and I have to control myself every time I use them.

i don’t like watching along with this sort of this thing, it feels a little ghoulish to be honest.

We were in the Alps this year and our chairlift which was open at the bottom stopped. I have a fear of heights and like you had to force myself to get in so this was my nightmare. It stopped midair swaying in the wind - for 2-3 minutes yet it seemed forever. I can't imagine how those poor people must have felt

The rescue operation is astonishing. Thank God it succeeded

Incredible bravery of the rescuers, ziplining out to collect the cable car occupants.

I caught the story on the BBC news. I didn’t see one women in the crowds of men

Wonderful news, some light amid the bloody horrible grimness of news reports.

ClaraThePigeon · 23/08/2023 18:04

The drone footage of the cable car is crazy. It's unbelievable that they were able to hang on for so long in that position.
