Car and house keys - together or separate?

i keep mine separate. No idea why.

I also keep both sets in the bedroom when I go to sleep.

Together, partner has then separate

2chocolateoranges · 21/08/2023 10:09

Separate. Means if I lose one set I haven’t lost them both.

dh used to keep them together until he couldn’t find his set of keys meaning he had no house or car keys. However he has now separated them .

itgoesroundandround · 21/08/2023 22:30

Never thought of the losing both aspect

Together.

Jagley · 21/08/2023 22:41

Always separate, otherwise if you lose one you lose both.

Stratocumulus · 21/08/2023 22:42

Together. Always have.

CrazyFrogDingDing · 21/08/2023 22:42

Mine are all on one keyring. I have spare house keys in a keysafe on the outside of the house wall though.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 21/08/2023 22:54

Car key is always somewhere in the very bottom of my handbag. It just needs to be physically on me to start the car so tends to stay there.
House key is on the hook. DH keeps his house and car keys together though.

My biggest bugbear is him leaving the electric gate key in his car. It’s an extra security measure having the gate so keeping the key in the car makes it pointless.

fetchacloth · 21/08/2023 22:56

Definitely separate. It would be a nightmare losing both attached together 😒

Blanketpolicy · 21/08/2023 23:02

Always together if using the car. If they were separate it just means I've got two items to keep track of which doesn't make sense to me.

If I go out without the car I don't take the car keys/house key combo I take just the spare house key instead.

Inca22 · 21/08/2023 23:02

Together. Mum has spares of both if I get stuck.

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 21/08/2023 23:02

Separate. I often go out without needing to drive so why would I carry the car key?

RosesAndHellebores · 21/08/2023 23:05

Separate but both in my handbag. Confused

ReviewingTheSituation · 21/08/2023 23:06

We have a house key on the same key ring as a car key, and then a separate house key for when you go out without the car.

No other keys on the car key ring - just the front door. I never understand great big key rings with loads of keys on them. What are all these keys that people need to take everywhere with them?

GrumpyPanda · 21/08/2023 23:07

Separately. Apparently it's not good for the ignition if there's too much weight dangling down from it.

cinnamonfrenchtoast · 21/08/2023 23:08

Together. I'm a dog walker and carry enough keys about with me without worrying about more 😂

Expo23 · 21/08/2023 23:08

Together. I have left the house keys at work too many times! I have house keys separate at home by the door and my family all have a set. My spare car keys are at my parents which is close by.

UsingChangeofName · 21/08/2023 23:08

Separate.
At night, house keys near the door for fire exit but car keys in a metal box (and away from the door) so car can't be unlocked by the devices that do so.

Dh and I have 2 cars between us (rather than our 'own car' each) and use either one, depending on who is going where and doing what and carrying what (or who) so would be really unhelpful if I wanted the one car and he was out of the house with the keys on his house keyring, and visa versa.

AuntMarch · 21/08/2023 23:08

Together, because I'm quite confident I'd lock myself out by only grabbing the car key otherwise.

DinnaeFashYersel · 21/08/2023 23:09

SackOfShitandRegrets · 21/08/2023 10:08

Same here

DuesToTheDirt · 21/08/2023 23:10

Separate. I used to have them together, but at the moment there are quite a few keys on my housekey set, and with our current car dashboard they clank constantly while I'm driving, very annoying.

StEtienne93 · 21/08/2023 23:12

Separate. I don't want to take a big bunch of keys with me if I'm just walking the dog. Plus, if I lose them then I haven't lost them all.

EmptyTheFrickingBins · 21/08/2023 23:14

I keep mine together and I the kitchen with my handbag. If I'm burgled on a night I'd rather they just grabbed keys and purse than came into the bedroom where I'm sleeping!

ErrolTheDragon · 21/08/2023 23:15

Separate. For reasons best known to DH we've 3 cars at the moment so we've each got 3 sets of keys. If I'm going out on foot I only want a door key.

rowantree1997 · 21/08/2023 23:18

Together - got fed up of rummaging for the house keys in my bag when arriving home.

We leave our keys downstairs- if someone breaks in I would rather they got them and left instead of coming upstairs to look for them.
