How much would this noise bother you?

Scale of 1-10, 10 being close to yelling STFU Grin

1 - dog barking constantly outside from 11pm - 1am when you want to sleep then starting again at 6am
2 - children screaming/shrieking (not quiet playing, think trampoline playing) 6pm - 10pm - for context the double glazed windows are shut, they're in the back garden and it's audible in the front living room as full on screaming
3 - a car horn being beeped randomly for an hour, every 3 mins or so, outside your hours

There is a reason why I'm asking but I'll post it after so I don't sway any answers!

All 10. I can’t cope with dogs barking and clocks ticking can give me the rage. Likewise whistling , tapping etc
I couldn’t live with noisy neighbours. Houses need to be properly soundproofed when there are so many inconsiderate arseholes around.

Incessant dog barking drives me insane. It's not just the noise it's the fact they're probably mistreating their dog by leaving it to bark all the time and probably not bothering to walk it.

The kids also quite annoying but at least they're just having fun and they'll be back to school very soon.

Car horn was for a purpose and a one off so meh.

theemmadilemma · 21/08/2023 12:02
  1. 10, and that's a noise nuisance which is enforceable, if what you state is accurate.

  2. Have 3 pretty loud kids next door, but I expect that shit done by 8pm. So an 8.

  3. One off? Annoying and I'd be curtain twitching for someone to sort it. But shit happens sometimes.

Yeah that was my thoughts about the dog

The children are (they don't live here) there all summer, evenings, weekends, so it's often 4-10pm with constant screaming
At 10pm they will get yelled at by relative that its 10pm and to stop screaming. They carry on and usually get taken inside about 10.15 ish

Thanks to the nice postman I've located the dog. It's actually inside Blush which shows how loud it is! And sort of across and a house down from me
It's still going now...their windows are open so I guess that's how it's so bad

10 for all three for me but at least the car horn would be a one off and could well have been a car alarm repair or fitting rather than a horn modification. The kids and dog would send me over the edge.

Gymmum82 · 21/08/2023 13:19

The dog would bother me the most. That would be a 10.
kids screaming less so and the horn if it was a one off then probably not as much.
I would go out and tell the kids to shut up myself though and I would have told the horn people to shut up too.
Knock on the people with the dog. They must not know it’s doing it surely? They can’t be living in the house with it barking constantly at those hours? Failing that report to the RSPCA/council. Or put some sedative laden treats through their letterbox

1 - dog barking constantly outside from 11pm - 1am when you want to sleep then starting again at 6am That would be a twenty and I would be hunting them down to bang in their door.
2 - children screaming/shrieking (not quiet playing, think trampoline playing)
6pm - 10pm - for context the double glazed windows are shut, they're in the back garden and it's audible in the front living room as full on screaming
Screaming is a ten, we have screamers here, but if yours is a set time instead of 7am to midnight its teeth gritable. Normal play is a 4, and I have loads of children doing normal play here.
3 - a car horn being beeped randomly for an hour, every 3 mins or so, outside your hours that would be a 10, but if I knew it was a one off I would try to swallow the rage.

noises · 21/08/2023 13:22

I don't feel as bad now. I was lying there at 1am contemplating storming around the road to find who the dog belonged to and someone suggested I was noise sensitive which made me question myself

Nobody is home with the dog, guessing they're at work. Seems to have stopped for now so will see if it starts again tonight

10 to all. I think you must live on my street. Perhaps it's you making all the noise and really wondering if I'm unreasonable when I shout STFU at you...

SushiSuave · 21/08/2023 14:33

What about the other issue I have where it's a neighbours child barking in the garden at 6.30 in the morning? Yes, barking. Because I rate that 11.

HTmmm · 21/08/2023 14:34

If you can find out what house the dog belongs to, stick a note through the door to make sure they know what's happening. My neighbours know and do nothing about it. Some people are selfish bastards, but some people simply don't know how bad their dogs are and can take steps to reduce it.

HTmmm · 21/08/2023 14:35

and by how bad, I mean how anxious they are. I'm saying it's the owners responsibility.

ItLooksLikeChickenSoItMustBeChicken · 21/08/2023 14:36
  1. 10 (But I'd feel sorry for the dog)
  2. 5 (It'll soon be school nights so it's temporary)
  3. 10 (stupid bastards could go somewhere else to do that)

2, 2, 9. Living creatures noises aren't so bad but mechanical ones are the worst.

i would have rated the children a 5 if it had ended by 8pm

just because the sounds of the children would disturb me, doesn’t mean I would complain about them.

there is a neighbor down the road that has a Hoover they use to clean out their car that operates at a pitch that drives me insane. Even with all the windows closed, to me it sounds like there is heavy construction going on outside or maybe something about to explode. The first time I thought maybe a plane was about to crash on us. It’s physically painful every time they run it. The rest of my family can’t even hear it. I would rate that one an 11, but obviously i can’t say anything.
