Cheese and crackers

If you like cheese and crackers what would you recommend? I had some Brie and some goats cheese recently with water biscuits and really enjoyed it, but don’t know where to start with other cheeses. I don’t like blue cheese like Stilton. Any recommendations?

I had forgotten about Port Salut! Haven't had it in years. Will pop it on the shopping list.

Thank you for all the recommendations I’ve got a lot to try.

Bath Oliver biscuits with Camembert, dolcelatte or Wensleydale with cranberries

Brie and child jam on an oatcake 🥰

liveforsummer · 23/08/2023 20:44

Child obviously- can't recommend child jam

Another vote for Port Salut and smoked Applewood Cheddar. My biggest love is a really stinky camembert on oatcakes with a bit of relish, washed down with some red wine.

Ragwort · 23/08/2023 20:51

Red Fox from Leicestershire is my new favourite, plus I have a soft spot for that processed cream cheese flavoured with pineapple and almonds Blush.

Rina66 · 23/08/2023 20:52

Doux de Montagne from M & S

weegiemum · 23/08/2023 21:00

White Stilton (not blue at all) is good, as is plain Wensleydale. A strong cheddar and a Camembert are also good, as well as something smoked (applewood is nice).

I'd serve with a couple of pâtés (Tesco do a nice duck and orange and also smoked salmon), some cherry tomatoes, sliced minis cucumbers and rocket. Nice bread and some cream crackers and water biscuits.

Having this for dinner tomorrow night as Dmil is arriving and she's never very hungry after a flight and dh can make a whole meal of it!!

British/Irish cheeses from Neal's Yard or La Fromargerie. McVities digestives are essential, some other tasty light cracker. Butter. Branston and some other tasty pickle (piccalilli?). Grapes

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 23/08/2023 21:05

Agree with @Hatvonbat on the Carr's selection.

Blue cheeses work with digestives, though I'm not a huge fan.

Brillat savarin is a fabulous soft cheese. Doux de Montagne is also lovely. I like traditional mature hard English cheeses too. I once had a salad of sliced pear with percorino which was delicious.

Jewelanemone · 23/08/2023 21:06

Not a cracker suggestion as such, but dolcelatte on sliced flat peaches is fabulous.

Doggymummar · 23/08/2023 21:10

Rye crackers and smoked German cheese

Oooo have to try those. Are they soft blue? Or just soft?

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 23/08/2023 21:17

Just soft cheeses. Waitrose and Ocado sell Brillat Savarin iirc. There's also Chaorce which is similar to Brillat Savarin, but not quite as nice imho.

For a cheeseboard I like a soft cheese, a hard, a blue and maybe something like a sheep's milk cheese if the rest are cow's milk. I'm not into flavoured cheese. I'm quite partial to Boursin with black pepper too - if you let it come to room temperature it is velvety smooth. If you're into cheese, a good sized M&S Simply Food will usually have a very good cheese selection. At a price!

Oldraver · 23/08/2023 21:22

My latest favourite is Parlick Olive cheese, Kalbach especially the truffle when it's available

Sourisblanche · 23/08/2023 21:26

I’m really enjoying Comte atm after it was recommended by a friend living in France.

Otherwise Gouda, Camembert, Red Leicester are always in my fridge.

professionalnomad · 23/08/2023 21:33

Caboc or a very sharp cheddar on an oatcake
Chutney AND butter!

FrangipaniBlue · 23/08/2023 21:59

I like to pair Smokey cheeses with chilli jam and strong/Stilton cheeses with sweet chutneys such as fig or pear.

Agree with others on jacobs but I do like a salty cracker!

Also finest do sea salt and cracked black pepper

Womblegreen · 23/08/2023 23:13

Jacob’s cracker selection, Bath Olivers, Cornish wafers or butter puffs.

Cheddar, Brie, Camembert or a smoked cheese but Caerphilly for a crumbly, creamy treat!

Sometimes accompanied by a caramelised onion chutney or slices of apple.

DuesToTheDirt · 23/08/2023 23:25

Ryvita Thins, especially sea salt + rosemary. We first had them in a welcome pack at a holiday cottage, and since then they have been a staple in our house.

CarolinaInTheMorning · 23/08/2023 23:27

Boursin on toasted baguette slices, with a bit of fig jam.

Hatvonbat · 24/08/2023 00:23

Thanks for the reply…….off cheese shopping tomorrow 😂

Rina66 · 24/08/2023 09:06

I'm not a strong cheese fan, but Gorgonzola on thin crackers with slices of pear is a lovely combination
