Cheese and crackers

If you like cheese and crackers what would you recommend? I had some Brie and some goats cheese recently with water biscuits and really enjoyed it, but don’t know where to start with other cheeses. I don’t like blue cheese like Stilton. Any recommendations?

You could work your way through Peter's Yard biscuits (fig is my fave) and try a smoked cheddar, a Wensleydale - you could try one with berries or ginger, and a nice Camembert.

You best bet is visit a Farmers market or food festival unless there's a decent cheese shop in your area - you get to taste samples before you buy

Hard cheeses that aren't blue that I love-

Vintage red leicester
Cornish yarg, it comes wrapped in nettles
Lincolnshire poacher
A strong cheddar like black bomber

Biscuits - I like the selections that include a digestive type biscuit! But also get posher ones, I don't like the texture of water biscuits. I'd get something thin and crispy. Lots to choose from. Not too much flavour in the biscuits themselves.

Then add some accomplishments like chutney. The best one is jersey black butter- amazing stuff

I love Paysan Breton with French Seaslt, (creamy cheese found in Waitrose), Strong Cheddar, Red Leicester, and Double Gloucester. I'm also partial to blue cheese now and again such as Stilton, Roquefort or Gorgonzola. Oddly enough I don't like Brie or Camembert. All me above on Jacobs Crackers, Bath Olivers or oatcakes. If I could only choose one cheese it would have to be Cheddar!

Jacob cream crackers, salted butter, homemade blackcurrant jam and a mature cheddar....

Yes! I'd forgotten how lovely those crackers are!

Wensleydale with cranberries is my favourite, or a good mexicana cheese. Tesco also do a nice soft garlic and herb cheese, it's in like a triangle block, delicious

Ryvita Thins, especially sea salt + rosemary. We first had them in a welcome pack at a holiday cottage, and since then they have been a staple in our house.

Yes, these…with taleggio. Mmmm.

Taleggio. M&S cornish cruncher cheddar. And their truffled gouda. With stem ginger, or plain, oatcakes or gluten free crispbread. And some spiced orange pickle.

I did a cheese shop today....
Northumberland nettle
Cornish brie
Alpine
Yorkshire blue
Epoisses
Cornish yarg
Manchego
Lots of crackers...chilli, lemon, fig and walnut, charcoal, beetroot.....and 2 new local chutneys.

viques · 24/08/2023 21:32

I buy own brand selection boxes for crackers, but always save the lovely Cornish wafers until last. I could buy a packet of them but I would scoff them like crazy.

any cheese , except for devil spit blue cheese , Red Leicester (why oh why?) , cheese with fruit in it, and old goats cheese, very fresh goat is fine.

tilestoclean · 24/08/2023 21:35

Very mild blue cheese on a thin ginger snap biscuit with a smidge of chilli chutney

I honestly will never understand the british obsession with crackers...
Cheese goes with crusty bread. A nice sourdough, or a fresh, crunchy baguette! Not crackers!!!

Schoolgirl error

You can eat far more cheese and crackers than you can eat cheese and bread.

Its not about quantity, though, but quality! if I want to eat more, I just forgo the bread completely.

Cornish wafers with Mexican cheese, coleslaw and a bit of ham

IvysMum12 · 24/08/2023 22:56

Aldi sell corn crackers (near the rice cakes) which are delicious.
28 calories each.

I’m off cheese, crackers and chutney shopping tomorrow. Big list!

@Splodgerbodgerbadger If you're near an M&S they do some mini platters of French cheese which are actually pretty nice, so you can try lots of different types until you find your perfect cheeseboard.
