One of mine was born in 1995 and I bought a navy baby sling. It had a specific brand name which I've forgotten.

I think I read an article whilst I was pregnant about the woman behind that particular design and the word 'mama' springs to mind but I can't be sure.

I now need one to carry hold an elderly dog.

Modern ones don't seem to have as much fabric.

It's similar in design to this -

You can get specific dog slings.

I've bought a few already but they are not suitable for his shape.

He's a Whippet and quite big because of his long legs but curls up small but needs to live his legs!

Arthur! No!

It wasn't the Wilkinet!

I recognised the name as I had that one for another baby!

This was more of a banana shaped sling!

I’d be interested to know how you get on with dog sling versus baby sling, as I’m going to be buying one in the near future.

Is it a mamaway?

I don't know about a specific brand name but that style is called a ring sling. They're fab, I loved mine for my human babies.

Noizettely · 20/08/2023 18:29

Will the dog have to wear some kind of nappy in case it urinates?

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 20/08/2023 18:30

If it was similar to a ring sling but not quite I wonder if it was a bag type. There are a lot that are no longer available as they do not support safe carrying guidance and some were thought to be implicated in the death of little ones.

Tumbleweed101 · 20/08/2023 19:02

Have a look at pouch slings. I loved mine. Less fiddly to put on than the ring sling. Have no idea what it was called though re brand.

BertieBotts · 20/08/2023 19:07

I also wonder if it was a bag sling. They were banned in about 2011 because they had such crap positioning and airflow for babies that some died.

Your picture shows a ring sling or pouch. You could get a modern ring sling or pouch to safely hold a dog. I wouldn't use a bag sling.

I can get you a link in a minute that shows the old bag slings it's just a bit tricky to find.

Maybe mamaroo?

I had a wilkinet too :)

Crunchymum · 20/08/2023 19:18

Is a dog pram a possibility? Although I've only ever seen them used for weeny dogs.

Universalcredtt · 20/08/2023 19:40

I had a ‘babasling’ in 2009 for about 48 hours. I remember buying it as they were apparently amazing and trying it but feeling it was really dangerous so took it back for a refund. I just couldn’t get my baby to feel safely positioned I wasn’t surprised when it came out they were dangerous . Not sure if you can still get similar

Valerie23 · 20/08/2023 19:42

His bladder is fine.

I have other dogs and on long walks he is tired walking back so would only be carried in emergency or occasionally on the way back from a very long hike.

A pram wouldn't be suitable for the terrain or foe getting over styles!

He would love a pram though and so would some of the others who are more than capable of hiking!

The one I had in 1995 was huge and my baby was 6.2lbs and he was a lot older before I could use it and I remember joking with my dad that I could fit in it!

The modern ones are not as big and the dog ones are far too small

I may end up making one.

I used to use a wrap sling called GypsyMama and they may have made ring slings as well? Now called Wrapsody. I also had a large ring sling which I think was made by Angel Wings, it was great for toddlers so if they are still being made, may fit a dog

BertieBotts · 20/08/2023 19:59

I wonder if it is the same one mentioned on this page. I doubt there were many sling brands being sold in the UK at that time so it possibly was.

I have sent a link to this thread but unsure if she will be able to respond :)

Do you have a local bay sling library?

You could compare different styles and hopefully find one to suit your needs.

Hercules12 · 20/08/2023 20:31

I had ds in 1996- remember the wilkinet- had one and it had long straps. The one you mean is one I’ve kept for sentimental reasons - looked at label - very faded - says in it “parenting concepts , moms helping moms
