Good point @Hillsmakeyoustrong - I thought it rather reminiscent of the clues in Holbein’s ‘The Ambassadors’ .

@SaffronWalden you must have a tremendous amount of time on your hands. Why don’t you take up solitaire, or crochet?

L1ttledrummergirl · 27/08/2023 00:35

If the Russian troops took themselves voluntarily out of Ukraine, then there would be no more blood shed on either side.

If the Russians had stayed the fuck out in the first place then no blood would have been spilt at all.

Russia is in the wrong here, it's very simple at it's core.

L1ttledrummergirl · 27/08/2023 00:42

It's incredibly convenient that the evidence points to Kyiv. If I was planning to blow up an important gas pipe during a volatile situation, then I would aim to leave no evidence, or perhaps leave a lot of evidence that pointed at my enemy to paint them in a bad light. I sure as he'll wouldn't want it trackable back to my government and possibly me.

Maybe this is some super attempt at a triple bluff that my lowly, devious prole brain is failing to understand.

Hi Liebig 👋

Imagine how sad your life must be. At least it means more donations for Ukraine 🇺🇦

DancesWithDucks · 27/08/2023 09:11

We're up to the 14th or 15th time he's been banned and re-registered now.

Funny how he keeps coming back here 'watching us' like a dirty old man in a mac when we're so wrong.

If only we'd listen to him, eh?

Natsku · 27/08/2023 09:11

He must have a very boring life to want to keep coming back for this. Or then he's getting paid.

But I think my misreading works in context.

Key Takeaways:

  • Ukrainian forces have made further tactically significant gains in western Zaporizhia Oblast, and several Ukrainian and Russian sources reported that Ukrainian forces are advancing through what Ukrainian and US sources suggested may be the most challenging series of prepared Russian defensive positions.
  • Ukrainian forces now appear within striking distance of the next series of prepared Russian defensive positions, which may be weaker than the previous set of Russian defenses but still pose a significant challenge.
  • A Ukrainian source indicated that Russian forces have laterally redeployed elements of a relatively elite formation from the Kreminna area in Luhansk Oblast to the Robotyne area in western Zaporizhia Oblast.
  • Russian irregular formations remain willing to threaten to withdraw from combat unilaterally despite recent efforts by Russian military command to purge and suppress insubordination.
  • The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) is reportedly prosecuting the junior officers and soldiers of a Russian unit that complained about senior commanders’ inattention to frontline issues. ['the whippings will continue until everyone is happy']
  • No prominent channels known to be directly affiliated with Wagner shared additional information on the future of the group, while the majority of Russian sources have focused their attention on kinetic activity on the frontline.
  • Russian forces conducted offensive operations along the Kupyansk-Svatove-Kreminna line, near Bakhmut, along the Avdiivka-Donetsk City line, and in western Donetsk Oblast but did not make any confirmed advances.
  • Russian regional governments continue to facilitate the forced deportation of Ukrainian children from occupied Ukraine to occupied Crimea.

F-16 will be able to detect Russian aircraft at long distances and will allow Ukrainian pilots to stay out of range of advanced Russian air defense, Atlantic Council writes
In addition, these fighters are likely to be equipped with AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missiles, which are similar in performance to, and possibly superior to, the Russian R-77.
In addition, the operation of the F-16 will provide Ukraine with a platform capable of easily integrating a wide range of complex weapons systems, should the US and other countries decide to offer them in the future. These range from the AN/ALQ-131 electronic countermeasures system to long-range kinetic weapons such as small-diameter bombs and cruise missiles such as the AGM-158 JASSM.
As soon as Ukraine can operate F-16 aircraft, NATO countries will open the door to supply these weapons, as they are easily compatible with American-made fighters.

Really tragic loss. Hopefully doesn’t put allies off donating planes.

Really tragic for their families and heartbreaking for Ukraine.

Reading the article, the speculation is that they were most likely practising formation flying, where planes can fly practically on top of each other at a distance of 3-4 metres, where there is no time for ejection. Ukrainian pilots face risks, having to rely on old Soviet airframes that would not be in use were it not for the war.

Andriy Pilshchykov aka 'Juice' was fluent in English, went to DC to lobby for F-16s. His call sign, “Juice”, was given to him by US pilots during a joint training exercise because he would not drink alcohol. Juice also regularly flew combat missions, intercepting cruise missiles and drones, as well as seeking to introduce NATO standards and traditions to Ukraine’s air force.

”On Saturday night, an upright piano was set alight on what appeared to be a remote runway to mark the deaths of the three men."

“You can’t even imagine how much he wanted to fly an F-16,” the air force spokesperson Yuriy Ihnat wrote online. “But now that American planes are actually on the horizon, he will not fly them.”

RIP Juice and the other 2 pilots Vyacheslav Minka and Sergey Prokazin. 🇺🇦

I hope this speeds up the sending of F-16s and the training of Ukraine's pilots. I always hope.
