Which Royal/VIP will represent England at the Women's World Cup?

As Prince William, Head of the FA, is not going, who will represent the country in Australia?

If it was the men's world cup, would Prince William have not have cleared his diary to attend? I cannot imagine a situation where England's men were in the World Cup Final and the Prime minister and Royals not falling over themselves to attend.

Maybe Harry should go... LOL!

Harry going would be superb trolling on his part. Christ William is lazy. Ideally William would watch it in a public place in the UK - showing support without the carbon footprint. But he won't, because he's on a beach on Mustique or similar.

James Cleverly 😁

LakeTiticaca · 19/08/2023 17:28

🥱🥱 already had a post about this. It's getting a bit tiresome now. William doesn't attend =not supporting the women's team
William attends=complaints about the massive carbon footprint made by him and his entourage, flying to the other side of the world for one footie match.
So he's damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.
So bore off all you William haters

I am sure the Lionesses will be delighted to have 'James -who?- Cleverly' watching. They could have sent Golden Balls...

It’s pretty rubbish really, you’d think the RF could have pulled their finger out to support. Just shows their true opinion of the event imo - actions speak louder than words and William has let us down.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 19/08/2023 18:16

The royal family would have been cheering for Australia as well, surely. Can't you see how the optics of that would be less than popular in the current climate?

lljkk · 19/08/2023 18:19

What is in PW's diary right now? Is he just on hols with family?

Why would the be cheering for Australia when Australia isn't playing in the final? Jeez Louise....

ThomasHardyPerennial · 19/08/2023 18:25

You've missed the point completely.

Jaxhog · 19/08/2023 18:28

Perhaps Queen Camilla and Princess Catherine could go?

LadyKenya · 19/08/2023 18:29

Well it obviously is not that important enough to him. Him not attending does not change my opinion of him anyway.

Who is Princess Catherine?

Oh my god - am I reading this right? William has two engagements in the next year? And Kate has none?! What exactly are we paying for, then? Anne is a trouper, the Duke of Gloucester (whoever he is) puts a shift in, but the two youngest and presumably healthiest senior royals barely lift a finger. It's embarrassing.

TeenDivided · 19/08/2023 19:06

I think flying halfway round the world just to watch a football match would be ridiculous and expensive, and if they did that then people would be up in arms about the expense.

Bromptotoo · 19/08/2023 19:11

The Monarch has a permanent representative in Australia - the Governor General:

I presume Sir David will attend.

The only time a Royal ever attended a world cup final it was in London.

I don’t think they publish many of their movements in advance for obvious reasons.

lljkk · 19/08/2023 19:51

I imagine that if PW was booked a year ago for my event on Sunday, I'd be narked if he bunked off at short notice for the footie.

But he's not booked for an event. He's got nothing booked for another month.

lljkk · 19/08/2023 20:17

I don't think that page I linked to is kept up to date. I know the exact timings are never published, those are always kept hush.

Princess Anne should go, she's the best one anyway.

I bet she would attend if she was a patron instead of Prince William
