Can't say I'm shocked!

Omg 😱 I had to leave my baby in nicu, and it was very traumatic. Even on the first few nights staying on the ward I had to leave to go to the toilet and force myself to eat something. It’s obvious some posters have no idea what it’s like to be on nicu. You have to trust the nurses and there’s also a team watching monitors from a central room, nobody in the right mind will think their baby was in danger from the nicu staff….all you’re thinking is how thankful you are they are keeping your baby alive!

Apparently she could get a whole life tarriff. Even that is too good for her because clearly she feels no guilt for what she has done. Her parents look broken.

flowersinthepath · 19/08/2023 08:53

As someone who had premature twins who had a NICU stay, I cannot comprehend how the parents, whose lives have been devastated, must be feeling. You put so much trust in these nurses when you are unable to be at the hospital and I trusted their expertise and knowledge above my own. Just horrific.

I appreciate murderers don’t always look evil, but what really struck me was how completely innocent and trustworthy her looks are.

The news during the trial was just too harrowing for me to listen to.

It’s a shame she can’t be hanged.

If it’s any consolation I don’t think she will have an easy time in prison. Her mugshot has been splashed everywhere so fellow inmates will know what she did. I suspect she will have to be in solitary confinement for her own safety. Plenty of time to think.
On the NICU argument, multiple birth babies can need months of specialist care. It just isn’t possible for healthy mums to be accommodated once well enough to be discharged.

ElephantExpedition · 19/08/2023 20:45

My own children were born at this hospital only a couple of years before she joined. It chills me to the bone when I think about that.

Brightandshining · 19/08/2023 20:46

I'm a bit socked.. I got quite taken in by the defence I must say. Maybe because it seems such a bizarre thing for a relatively young, relatively well educated, seemingly well liked, person to do... she obviously had a lot of darkness under the surface. Horrific. I'm so sorry for those poor families. What a hard thing to have to live with that their babies may have survived had it not been for her.

@Nevermay same I wouldn't admit to knowing that cunt let alone giving birth to it!
It's difficult enough for the families that their babies died but to now know they were murdered & it could have been prevented is incomprehensible.
I couldn't give less of a fuck about her parents.

Seriously? You cannot imagine what it is like for parents to discover their only child, the person they love most in the world, has been found guilty of multiple child murders? They must be going through absolute hell. Your lack of empathy is quite frightening.

Most people can manage to be desperately sorry for the parents of the dead babies, while also understanding the horror and profound pain Lucy Letby's parents are living with.
I found your last sentence deeply disturbing.

ElephantExpedition · 20/08/2023 19:49

I’ve just read this on a local papers website;

”Additionally, in response to the Sunday Times investigation, Susan Gilby - the ex-chief executive of the Countess of Chester trust - said a full public inquiry was required. She added that she knew within a week of beginning her role at the trust in 2018 that police needed to be involved.”

So if she hadn’t joined when she did could it have gone on even longer?

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 20/08/2023 19:59

I wish the media would stop using her smiling photos. Her police mug shot should be the only photo they use now, that is a face of evil.

I have found that smiling face oddly effective in cementing the horror of this case; to borrow something from the Shakespeare quotes thread, ‘one may smile and smile and be a villain’.

NumberFortyNorhamGardens · 20/08/2023 20:09

I also think senior managers, in order to keep their jobs, should be given homework, like some of us older posters used to do in school: ‘“All that needs to happen for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing”. Discuss. References required from the Holocaust, from the Harold Shipman case, from the Beverley Allitt case. Postholders are required to demonstrate a secure knowledge of current legal requirements, an awareness of current political conditions and a strong sense of ethics and integrity. Any hint of self-interest will lead to automatic failure.’

We can all dream…
