Lucy Letby guilty

Lucy Letby has been convicted of the murder of seven babies and the attempted murder of six more.

My thoughts are with the families of the victims.

Well how do they move the ''25 stone with history of violence'' men into their cells if they don't want to go?

NewNextOfKin · 18/08/2023 16:48

ZoeCM · 18/08/2023 16:44

Agreed. There will always be extremes among humans. In the same way that some people are extremely intelligent, or extremely tall, or extremely musically talented - some people will simply have extremely low capacity for empathy. It sounds as though when Letby looked at a sick baby, she didn't see a vulnerable human being, but an object she could sacrifice in order to "bond" with a consultant.

Yes. Some sociopaths do things like this some of the time.

I mean - if a convicted prisoner 'refused' to get into the van to be taken to prison they'd have to be restrained and manhandled then.

Surely the whole business of detaining, moving and jailing 'reluctant to oblige' people should be met face on with force if necessary? Where does it end otherwise, when prison staff aren't prepared to get physical because getting injured isn't fun? What if firefighters decided it wasn't worth the risk? Or police?

It's easy enough to manhandle someone quickly into an enclosed space like a cell or a prison van where you basically throw them in, lock the door and walk away. Not quite the same when you are talking about getting them up stairs into a dock and keeping them there, and trying to keep them quiet during a long process of sentencing.

loislovesstewie · 18/08/2023 16:50

I just want to say that my thoughts are with the parents of the babies. There are no words of condolence I can offer .
I always say to those grieving 'May his/her memory be a blessing'. Inadequate but the best I can do.

Yes, Tony Chambers seems to be up to his neck in this. What is absolutely unbelievable is that despite having resigned from Countess of Chester in 2018 he was subsequently employed again as a senior manager by another NHS Trust. There is a culture of impunity amongst senior NHS managers it seems.

Unfortunately it's like that everywhere in public bodies. People who work in special needs have commented on the fact that the same people seem to move from failed council to failed council, doing a terrible job everywhere they go.

Laiste · 18/08/2023 16:50

I can understand that. But we're not always talking about big blokes who will and yell and fight through the whole thing. Letby doesn't fall into that catagory though?

DarkCherryVino · 18/08/2023 16:51

When paediatric consultants angrily complained about his decision, Letby’s father threatened to refer them to the General Medical Council. They were forced to write her a letter of apology but maintained that she should not be allowed to return to the unit* *Lucy Letby, the ‘beige’ and ‘average’ nurse who turned into a baby killer

Holy fudge!

Lucy Letby, the ‘beige’ and ‘average’ nurse who turned into a baby killer

Her childhood seemed idyllic and she cried at reminders of her home life, but she was, the prosecutor said, ‘cruel and relentless’

She must never be released evil. I wonder what her parents think did they ever see anything ….she’s a serial killer …hopefully prisoners sort her out child killers don’t fare well

I have some knowledge of prisons; she won't be treated well at all. She'll be the 'block bitch' and likely to endure abuse.

I wonder if she'll die by suicide within 12 months.

PrincessScarlett · 18/08/2023 14:14

One of the consultants has just spoken on BBC news saying he and others repeatedly reported Letby to senior management and they were told to stop reporting her or face the consequences. Senior management at the hospital should face the consequences and now face criminal charges. It's shocking that so many reported her (not just one disgruntled colleague) and it was ignored.

I agree - there should be some sort of corporate manslaughter type charges brought against them.

Laiste · 18/08/2023 16:51

I dunno - i've just seen so many of these wankers lately not want to go and face the music in dock.

It pisses me off.

TheGoodBanana · 18/08/2023 16:52

@Laiste It's one thing using force and risking being injured when it's absolutely NECESSARY, that is what the prison officers are trained for, but putting people at risk simply to please peoples need for revenge is not necessary and that's before you start on keeping them still/quiet in the dock.

Justice will still be done in her absence.

Yes it is cowardly, yes I think they should be in the dock but no, I don't think it is worth putting other people at risk when the outcome is the same.

I can’t imagine being on shift, giving each other a “look” and asking if Lucy was on shift again when an alarm sounded. That it became normal to ask that.

I know there is nobody else to blame but her, she did this, but I can’t help but wonder why didn’t another nurse shadow her if there were suspicions?

I suspect that perhaps they thought she was making mistakes, incompetent etc rather than a cold blooded serial killer?

Serendipitoushedgehog · 18/08/2023 16:53

I can’t even begin to imagine what those poor parents have been through.

And I can’t understand why anyone would do that. Just ever. What was going through her mind?

Laiste · 18/08/2023 16:54

@TheGoodBanana

<mutter mutter> I know you're right. I'm just having a table thump!

Serendipitoushedgehog · 18/08/2023 16:54

Also, well done to the one doctor who kept pushing for an investigation when nobody else seemed to believe him. Hope he’s ok.

Papernotplastic · 18/08/2023 16:54

I can’t understand why the hospital management wasn’t obligated to report staff concerns about her to the police.

Well I did think it odd when she was arrested. He mother was distraught (understandable) but she said, 'Take me. I did it', which is a very odd thing to say. Like she knew she'd done something and wanted to take the rap.

Surely the logical thing to have said would be to say, 'Leave her alone she's done nothing wrong'.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/08/2023 16:55

Seems (Tony Chambers) was an executive at Queen Victoria hospital in Sussex up until earlier this year
Reckon it must be a very uncomfortable situation if he’s still employed by a hospital

Uncomfortable for others maybe, but probably not for him if he is still in senior management at another hospital (or even in another slot at the same one)

Sadly, the families are all too often considered expendable - managers less so

BeagleMum1 · 18/08/2023 16:55

Utterly horrendous. This is why I didn't clap during the pandemic. It's very dangerous to put a health service and all of those working within it on pedestal. The NHS and its staff, need to face scrutiny and there needs to be accountability. It's for everyone's safety, staff and patients. How did she manage to do this and for so long? What is going on, within the health service to allow this to happen?

TheGoodBanana · 18/08/2023 16:55

@Laiste Oh believe me I feel the same, just logically it doesn't work.

I totally agree that they are cowards and if it were easier they should be forced. Just sadly unworkable.

That's a bit different to court staff moving a prisoner into a PUBLIC courtroom

Serendipitoushedgehog · 18/08/2023 16:57

MavisMcMinty · 18/08/2023 15:42

Really? When there were very few deaths on the unit in the years before and after Lucy Letby’s employment there? It would be the most extraordinary coincidence, surely?

Looking at this from the bbc, I really can’t see how it could be:

Lucy Letby guilty

Always has been. There’s a mafia of NHS senior managers who watch one anothers’ backs.

OdeToBarney · 18/08/2023 16:58

Those that attempted to silence the consultants are just as guilty of murder imo. It's a shame they've probably all been paid off with golden handshakes and fat pensions. Absolutely disgusting.

Serendipitoushedgehog · 18/08/2023 16:59

Puzzledandpissedoff · 18/08/2023 16:30

Not even just blind eye turning, but actual intimidation of the reporting consultant according to ITV:

"In the minutes of one meeting seen by ITV News, the doctors are told to 'draw a line under the 'Lucy issue' and to apologise to her for alleged 'victimisation'.
Dr Jayaram claims that the then-Chief Executive Tony Chambers told consultants at the meeting in January 2017: 'I'm drawing a line under this, you will draw a line under this, and if you cross that line, there will be consequences for you'"

This guy needs to face justice as well, surely?
