The aim in court is to prove 100% guilt. Our law states that corroboration is needed when providing evidence. Basically the tape itself isn't enough to convict otherwise anyone could get sent to jail for one accusation. They need a key witness in this case being the girl

Her actions give the impression that she doesn’t support punishment, so it’s hard for anyone - whether that’s the police, the court, the club, to support his punishment if they take a victim-led approach. This is also not true. If this was the case there would never be any convictions for any offences committed behind closed doors. It’s obviously preferable to have corroborating evidence but sometimes it does come down to “ he said - she said “ and who the jury believe.

I can’t imagine anyone listening to that audio tape being anything less than disgusted. That quality of evidence doesn’t come along every day and given the difficulties of getting convictions for these offences I imagine everyone involved will be gutted that case didn’t go ahead. I hope his girlfriend and baby are ok.

I think the reality is that he has a good publicist in his corner working on damage control. If I’m being frank, their reconciliation and their baby together is likely a planned, tactical, PR move. He won’t ever fully recover his reputation and may miss out on certain opportunities, but he has managed to let this play out into a less abhorrent situation…
