i know people pinch glasses
from pubs all the time , it’s wrong , but people do it. My friend has done this and she said she thinks the owner saw her and is now worried , I’ve told her to take it back , I’m sure it’ll be fine . I don’t know . Has anyone got in trouble before for stealing a glass ? Or for returning it ?

Hardly. It's a wee bit scuzzy to half inch glasses from pubs.

In the real world, pretty much everybody has nicked a glass from the pub when they were young and silly.

mrsbyers · 16/08/2023 22:29

Ridiculous really if she asked they would probably have said fine to take

I suppose. But rude to call someone a fool for buying hers, though.

RantyAnty · 16/08/2023 22:32

Huge overreaction.

Glasses are going to get broken, thrown out, replaced, anyway.

UndercoverCop · 16/08/2023 22:34

If she feels bad she should take it back, give it to bar staff, just say I had a glass of wine/gin too many and ended up with this, I'm so sorry. They will laugh.

Icantthinkofausername123 · 16/08/2023 22:36

Some restaurants I have been to (one that springs to mind is rainforest cafe in LA) charge you more for your first cocktail so you can keep the glass after. I bet this I'd the exact reason why. Pretty sure it happens all the time

TheChosenTwo · 16/08/2023 22:41

Haha dh came home from the pub with a Guinness glass a few years ago, was kicking out time and he hadn’t drunk it so took it with him (I wasn’t with him at the time). A few weeks later we went back to the same pub together and the landlord came over and told him he wanted his glass back! I went for a run the next day and dropped it back, he said thank you and tell your husband next time he wants to take a glass can it be one he has too many of please as he’s constantly running out of Guinness ones!

Hoegaarden glasses are the best.
You can't buy them, so you haven't lived untill you have a Hoegaarden pint glass in your cupboard.

Amethys · 16/08/2023 23:01

Just tell her to take it back and say “sorry I had had a few drinks and was absent minded and somehow carried this home.”

Yes! My hoegaarden pint glass is my favourite glass to drink from. Although it does weigh an absolute tonne.

I work in restaurants and bars.

the amount of glasses we lose to theft is about 3% of what we break ourselves.

Just saying I personally wouldn’t give a shit…

Actually make that 1%

I went home with a glass from my local and took it back the next day as lift turned up when I'd ordered a drink. I may have kept a glass from a camp out pub. It's probably wise not to pinch glasses though from pubs.

Ohmylovejune · 16/08/2023 23:13

This will age me.

I've a Babysham glass in my cupboard!

😂

I love a selection of different glasses.

Kowaii · 16/08/2023 23:15

All of our glasses are pub ones 🤣

No one gives a shit about glasses.

doroda · 16/08/2023 22:11

Hasn't everybody got a couple of years old pub pint glasses in their cupboard?

@doroda

NOOOOOOOO, and not a single one from
Oktoberfest

KomodoDodo · 16/08/2023 23:22

To the people saying noone gives a damn about glasses going missing from pubs and restaurants, you're wrong.
Yes SOME branded glasses are given free by some breweries, but not all, and those which aren't can be expensive and difficult to replace. Wine glasses certainly arent free…or cheap if you run a decent pub or restaurant. Hospitality is on its arse already with rising prices of everything, feeling free to steal glasses doesnt help places that are already struggling to stay afloat.
You wouldn't nick a Mars bar from a local shop because they are cheap…because its clearly theft, so is taking a glass from a restaurant or pub.

Peakypolly · 16/08/2023 23:30

I found this one chucked on our drive. It's really solid and I use it most days.

GrimGrinningGhosts · 16/08/2023 23:38

The landlady of our local micro pub bought six, beautiful gin glasses and the first night she had them behind the bar two went for a walk.
She isn’t someone to be messed with and also knows pretty much every person who frequents the pub so I imagine the thief was rather surprised to get a knock on the door from her asking for either her glasses or the cost of them back.

Never underestimate a tenacious Landlady and good pub CCTV 😂

GetToTheChopperrr · 16/08/2023 23:40

I bought a pint of Brew Dog the other day - it was so expensive I assumed I'd paid for the glass too!

JanglingJack · 16/08/2023 23:42

HarrietSchulenberg · 16/08/2023 21:00

As someone whose friends once stole barstools from pubs and an entire table from a restaurant, I sympathise with your embarrassment.

That escalated 🤣

From a busy pub, years and years ago I might have wandered home with a pint glass (30 years ago - student!).

It's never occurred to me to nick a glass from a restaurant though, especially with table designation, server, a track of what was ordered....

Timetochangegonzo · 16/08/2023 23:43

I remember getting home with a friend at uni and she opened her bag to reveal a plethora of pub glasses. I don’t know how she didn’t clink an alarm

Ooh those really thick chunky ones?

Would have liked one of those.

I'm not dead yet 🤣

Blossomandbee · 16/08/2023 23:49

Not that it matters but why did she take it, liked it? Needed it?
