Is the mullet haircut now in fashion for boys?

We live in the SE and I've never seen a boy/teen with a mullet haircut. Recently visited family in the North and about 50% of the boys/teens seem to have mullets! I was really shocked. These boys were of the public school/Rugby playing variety so not sure if it's just a little bubble of mullets in that section of society or if it's becoming a general fashion?

Business at the front, party at the back!!

🤣

DS has a mullet and a turquoise oversized shellsuit typejacket. I feel like I’m stuck in an 80s time warp in our house.

My boy is nearly 16, with natural curls and a horrendous mullet. Extremely cool round here, although only a few dare to do them. I think curly looks better than straight but none of them are actually nice haircuts 😂

Make sure you take a photo so you can embarrass him when he's older

Think it's called a wolf cut

Yep, wolf cut 🐺👍

LittleGreenDuck · 16/08/2023 18:20

This seemed to be the trend for DS's rugby team about a year ago. Though they've all got rid of them now and gone back to fairly conservative short back and sides. I don't know if they're ahead of the curve, or so far behind they're at the tail end of last time it was fashionable! We're in the South West.

My 14 year old son has a permed mullet! I hate mullets but he wanted one. Then he had really bad sickness bug and i felt sorry for him so ended up paying £70 for him to have a perm.
3 of his friends have followed suit. They go to a fairly posh comprehensive school and are into science and computers. I dislike the mullet but actually think the perm looks good.

We should shut down the barbers like I shut down the mines

Interesting attitude…

Fawful · 16/08/2023 18:56

I think they look good, and can't be the only one?

Mimilamore · 16/08/2023 19:01

Yes... ironic mullets, SE

whenindoubtgotothelibrary · 16/08/2023 19:03

Still lots of private school/rugby mullets here in London. Was a thing during DS's last year of school in 2019 and doesn't seem to have gone away.

Backtothe90splease · 16/08/2023 19:07

I saw one today on a kid about 11/12 and was surprised, it stood out a mile. Its obviously only just reached my town up north. It looked absolutely awful.

Holidayhouse1010 · 16/08/2023 20:21

See Electric Callboy. Its very fashionable in rock and metal circles. Some girls too, long ones though.

TimeForBedSaidZebadee · 16/08/2023 23:20

My daughter's boyfriend posted a picture of his new mullet on Facebook earlier today.
It looked absolutely ridiculous. 😂

treacledan71 · 16/08/2023 23:23

I was next to two teenage lads in the hairdressers having perms.

Mammyloveswine · 17/08/2023 00:00

It's all the rage with the upper middle class boys in the north east.., no working class lad would ever dream of it though!

My friends son has one and honestly he looks atrocious! I'm so pleased my son isn't that age yet as I would honestly banish him from the house if he came home with one!

DietrichandDiMaggio · 17/08/2023 00:32

The mullet is very popular amongst rowers too. Think Paul Mescal rather than Chris Waddle though.

TakingTheHorseToFrance · 17/08/2023 01:54

My ds got a mullet at the start of summer. He's 13, it's a very popular style here in Ireland at the moment. It looks surprisingly good on him. He's due another hair cut before school starts and I'm kinda hoping he'll get it done again.

travelogue · 17/08/2023 08:59

It's definitely been a rugby "fashion" for a few years - I think it started in lockdown when no one had to get their hair cut for school. DS has been more into the curtains look / varieties there of. What I really hate is the fashion for awful facial hair once they've left school.

Itsnotallaboutyoulikeyouthink · 17/08/2023 09:03

It’s been and gone a year ago where we live. Perhaps we set the trend.

Angolina · 13/02/2024 18:56

Yes my favorite hairstyle is burst fade mullet The burst fade mullet is a trendy haircut that combines elements of the classic mullet with the modern burst fade technique.

Yeah, they’ve just tipped out of the rugby players into more general youth circulation. They do refer to them as mullets.
