Is the mullet haircut now in fashion for boys?

We live in the SE and I've never seen a boy/teen with a mullet haircut. Recently visited family in the North and about 50% of the boys/teens seem to have mullets! I was really shocked. These boys were of the public school/Rugby playing variety so not sure if it's just a little bubble of mullets in that section of society or if it's becoming a general fashion?

Up North here too. Most of the teenage boys I see have short at the sides and curls on top possibly permed. My teenage grandsons have this but with natural curls.

I'm in the South West and seeing more of the shaved/clipped sides + permed top. It looks very silly.

Not caught on in my area of the mids yet.
It's still skin fades here usually done by a Turkish barber. Grade 1 around the sides and longish (sometimes curly) on the very top. Basically a short back & sides!

I like it but preferably with natural curls.

I have a mullet. They can be really nice
Take a look at Miley Cyrus or Amy Taylor (from Amyl and the sniffers)
Google modern female mullet and it will surprise you.

I really want my DP to get one but he's resistant so far 😂 I think he'd really suit one

White socks and sliders seems to be in too. Even my fashion unconscious husband takes exception to that!

Yeah they have Been in for a while to.me they look like something you would wear around a.pool.abroad and I kept seeing young men wearing them in all.weather's my fashion conscious nephews confirmed it was a style.

Teacher in SE. Mullets have been growing in popularity for about 2 years. Especially popular amongst rugby boys.

Kevinscousin · 16/08/2023 13:59

Yes it's trendy. I've seen a couple of curly ones too. The feather cut version is back for girls and called the Wolf cut. My daughter has one . Looks like a better Rod Stewart do. 😂

Hate that look! Also, how do their sliders not slide off?!

Fizbosshoes · 16/08/2023 14:01

I thought mullets (for both sexes) had been back for about a year

I've seen kids wearing socks and sliders for years - probably 6 years +
I didn't even know they had a name and just called them pool slippers for ages!Blush

I’m in north wales. My 11 yo ds (thankfully) has not requested a mullet but does take great care over his long swishy fringe. A few of his friends have mullets

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 16/08/2023 14:10

My 14 year old has one and his younger brother (10) is growing one. It’s not about what looks good to us parents, it’s being part of a time and a trend, and will be something to look back at and have a giggle.

@Moonberri yep my boys sport that look too 😂. Apparently having your feet showing in sandals is the height of uncool so they wear socks all summer 😳

Fashion is such bollocks 😂

PepsiMaxandPringleStacks · 16/08/2023 14:30

Blame Sam fender and all the aussie tiktok boys

BearSoFair · 16/08/2023 14:38

My 21 year old recently got one...definitely old enough to know better AND he's a barber so there's really no excuse Grin

ethelredonagoodday · 16/08/2023 14:39

@Bbq1 His hair sounds gorgeous. My DH has dark curly hair, still looks great at 50.

Aw, thanks HamBone. People alway comment on his hair everywhere he goes. He's very lucky. My dh also has long dark hair at 53 but his is poker straight. I have serious hair envy in this house!!

MissAtomicBomb1 · 16/08/2023 15:21

@Bbq1 no, the Midlands! Grin

Castall · 16/08/2023 15:45

@Moonberri

if all young people have mullets that will make older people look better!

yeah!

popandchoc · 16/08/2023 15:46

I saw a couple of boys on holiday with a mullet but don't really see it in my area (hertfordshire).

ShowerintheDark · 16/08/2023 15:49

I despise it! I'm just glad my dc are young that by the time they get to that age, it'll be out of fashion again (if it ever was in the first place!) 🙏🤞🤞🤞
