Is the mullet haircut now in fashion for boys?

We live in the SE and I've never seen a boy/teen with a mullet haircut. Recently visited family in the North and about 50% of the boys/teens seem to have mullets! I was really shocked. These boys were of the public school/Rugby playing variety so not sure if it's just a little bubble of mullets in that section of society or if it's becoming a general fashion?

Socks & sandals in a no no,I don't care what excuses they make! I only ever saw that in Germany!

is*

Definitely a rugby thing round here as well (generally the forwards - the ‘meet me at McDonald’s’ curly top
and fade underneath still seems be holding its own amongst the backs 😂)

DS did at the beginning of last year. Was apparently called a posh mullet then as all his public school friends had them. Cried the day he finally had the back bit shaved off as I was embarrassed to have him accompany me anywhere, especially with the bum fluff tache that he insisted on sporting at the same time!

I have only seen one kid so far. They have always been popular with the Travelling community.
Just as long as they don't start growing those tails

Mullets are massive round here, the boys at DS’s school are all sporting them. One of our home grown rugby players is sporting this beauty

Please say this is a wind up😠I am a teacher and do not relish seeing this on my return in September🤣

Clingfilm · 16/08/2023 16:00

Big with the Welsh farm boys too.

I can't get over the white socks and sliders I keep seeing, aren't the socks filthy and past the point of ever being white again after a day out and about?

TheMousePipes · 16/08/2023 16:06

Our school is full of mullets, back perms and wolf cuts. They all look ridiculous!

Glittertwins · 16/08/2023 16:12

God, I remember the hideous back perms in the boys when I was 14/15!!
I'm not sure what the style is called but it seems to be long and curly, front and back with under cut sides. Basically looks like a semi shorn sheep

massistar · 16/08/2023 16:14

Big with the rugby boys down here in south wales. Looks hideous. Luckily DS is more shaved at the back and floppy on top which is also in. Well seeing he's a scrum half the amount of time he spends on his hair. Grin

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/08/2023 16:15

DS has been sporting his since last year, although it’s now longer on top so looks less mullet type

MichaelAndEagle · 16/08/2023 16:18

Mullets have been around for ages up here (newcastle). Definitely among a certain set, but I see so many now I don't really notice anymore!

Allmarbleslost · 16/08/2023 16:18

They all seem to have 90s boyband hair round here.

Gameofmoans81 · 16/08/2023 16:20

I teach secondary in the SE and would actually say this trend was big last year and year before but actually wearing off now! Thank god

mumonthehill · 16/08/2023 16:21

Ds 22 has one, he looks awful but he loves it so there we are. I honestly would love to take a pair of scissors to it. He has just graduated and I had hoped the mullet would not be in the photos but it was!

MissAtomicBomb1 · 16/08/2023 15:21

@Bbq1 no, the Midlands! Grin

Ha ha, sorry! I only asked because last year we went away in the Uk and a lot of families from Essex were in the resort and SO many of the teenage lads had the hairstyle that you describe!

BerriesandLeaves · 16/08/2023 16:28

I asked dd if boys at her South London comp have them and she said "Yes definitely."

LookingForPurpose · 16/08/2023 16:42

I've got 2 rugby playing boys in my family and we are up north in the middle of league territory, the mullet is HUGE at the moment.

Rollingdownland · 16/08/2023 17:03

House of London rugby players here and I'm afraid to say the mullet and moustache combo is in this summer. Absolutely revolting. I said yesterday I can't wait for school to start so the hair situation (head and face) will have to go back to normal.

MNetcurtains · 16/08/2023 17:05

Sometimeswinning · 16/08/2023 12:45

Yes. All my Ds's friends are sporting them. I'm not sure they would like the term Mullet!

Name and shame. Call it out for what it is! 😂

Make sure that photo is put on a big screen at his wedding!😬

19yo DSS has one.

Posh middle-class private school, south east london.

Divebar2021 · 16/08/2023 17:56

I wonder if some of it isn’t influenced by Stranger Things?

Yup.

northern, rugby playing son has one! Though it’s not that common as it was how he was identified after a bit trouble he got into at school 😬
