Every so often I'm a millionaire for 15 seconds or so

In the time between me seeing the 'News about your ticket' email from the lottery to me opening the app and seeing I've won £2.50 I'm rich, I'm planning my house, I'm thinking about what cars I'll buy my sons, a custom made 9 ft cat tree, a holiday home, maybe one of those mini ridable steam trains to go round my vast property if I ever have grandkids 😂

That's me whenever I see an advert!

EllaMenopee · 16/08/2023 09:49

I was talking to someone recently who never checks his lotto ticket until he's bought the next one, so there's always the possibility he's holding the winning ticket 😁

BillyBraggisnotmylover · 16/08/2023 09:53

I’m with you OP, every time!

Did win £30 last week though so it’s not all bad!

Wheresthebloomingsummersunshine · 16/08/2023 10:09

That's me. Even though I know statistically I'll never win big, I still buy a ticket. How long as the lotto been going - 25 years? Won probably £250 at most overall in that time but still hope every time mug

I've always got a house ready to go on Rightmove so I'm prepared. I always get unreasonably upset when they sell. my favourite one had five berooms and five bathrooms...sigh.

Tbh I am quite stressed at the moment as there just aren't any decent lottery win houses for sale near us Grin... all the ones on the market have some major drawback that I couldn't tolerate (one is just too big Blush, I have a neurological condition that means I have to pace, so I can't fantasise about an overly large house Grin) . I feel like asking estate agents to just put up some fake listings to help with my day dreaming Grin

beguilingeyes · 16/08/2023 15:42

I know what you mean. i get quite panicky when I can't find anything. My current one is 'only' £1.5 million.

I thought I was the only one to do this!! Glad I'm not!
I always have my dream house sorted on Rightmove, and a smaller house, in case I win the Millionaire Maker.

I started playing this year in the hope that I can leave my husband. I spend every evening looking on Right Move. I have my Thunderball house picked out and I have my Euro Millions house picked out. It’s weirdly comforting.

Ohhh I remember those days. Flowers. I managed to find a way out eventually. Hopefully you have looked at entitledto to work out what you might get (for me, once I realised 70% of their childcare costs would be covered I realised I could -just- get out)

Soozy58 · 17/08/2023 21:50

Hahaha, me too. It’s usually in the early hours when I can’t sleep and I get excited - for 5 mins!

Thank you; I will check it out. It’s more that he refuses to give me equity of the house because he had been a homeowner for years before we met. He’s a clever man and I know he’ll hide stuff. He is also much more articulate than me and has a way of making me look foolish. I currently can’t afford to rent anywhere on my own but I have a two-year plan.

Fingers crossed for the Thunderball!

As an aside... if you have been married a fair while, the fact he had it before you were married counts for very little. Might be worth getting some legal advice, you might not need that lottery ticket as much as you think you do.

I also have a few houses "on the back burner" for when I win.... one of them has just sold (sadly not to me)....

Bsmirched · 17/08/2023 21:58

I've always wondered if there is different wording depending on the prize. Exciting news, phenomenal news or life-changing news about your ticket!

I wonder this. Like if you win the jackpot is it the same email and you just log in and it says £1.5million in your account? Or does it say call us or something?

It’s in joint names, so I know I will get my share and be able to force the sale. I just need to save up enough money to be able to rent a place while it all gets sorted. I returned to work this year and I am working towards further qualifications.

I am always gutted when one of ‘my’ houses sells. I just picked out my holiday home this evening. I even chose the coffee maker I’ll get for it 😂

squeezyeasy · 17/08/2023 22:08

I have it all worked out too. One problem though - I don’t do the lottery. 😂 So you lot are in with way more chances than me!

TheChosenTwo · 17/08/2023 22:11

Not quite the same but my friend took her ticket to the petrol station when she was filling up and the woman told her she had to call a number and collect her £20,500 - friend nearly fainted!!
I often daydream about the house I would buy to fit a 20ft Christmas tree somewhere in it and then remember I don’t actually play the lottery 😂

Thindog · 17/08/2023 22:15

I have some Premium Bonds and always tidy the house at the end of the month, ready for Agent Million to arrive.

LizzieSiddal · 17/08/2023 22:32

I thought only I did this. Thank you for making me feel less weird 😂

Keeping my fingers crossed for you, and rooting for you to find a way through this.

It's definitely worth getting some legal advice too, even to help you prepare.

A period where money is tight is very much worth it (I skipped meals sometimes and it was still better than being with my ex!)

bpirockin · 17/08/2023 22:51

I'm with you on this. I always have my "lottery house" of the moment picked out, though lately it's been harder to find one so when it happens I'll just have to go and knock on doors and make an offer they can't refuse - LOL. Funnily enough, the house I've most loved and that really felt like 'home' was one that had I been in work, or had a partner, would have been totally affordable. That's the only one I was really upset to miss out on. Maybe next time!

I used to leave it as long as I could before checking my ticket, but as things have got harder and tighter in my life, I tend to check ASAP. If I ever stop buying a ticket/living in hope, then it'll be time to worry.

Money being tight is fine but it’s different when you don’t earn enough to even be able to rent a place. I could probably increase my hours but unless I give up my studies, I don’t earn enough to live independently. If I keep up my studies, I will be able to double my income in two years and then do freelance work in my field too. It’s a long game but I will get there.
