Apart from salad?

Extended family, very casual situation.

Nothing

Berlinlover · 16/08/2023 12:39

Nothing, pizza fills me up.

It completely depends on context. Are you entertaining guests or just eating it yourselves at home?
Two different scenarios.

I wouldn't dream of having people round and slapping a pizza down with nothing else to go with it. I would for myself, but that's different.

On the table I'd put out
Pizza- enough for sharing, not a whole pizza per person
A salad bowl for sharing with cherry tomatoes and basil
Side dishes to share out eg spicy prawns, spiced potato wedges or garlic bread, potato salad or coleslaw
Sauces like garlic mayo, ketchup
Wine, beer and sparkling mineral water with elderflower or something like that.

Going for this, thank you. 🙂

Just dips or maybe chili sauce.

Packageholiday · 16/08/2023 12:52

Nothing, it is usually home made and very fill ing

I will add veg/salad/slaw because even with a very thin crust and generous toppings pizza is about 65-70% carbs abd no more than 10% veg, whereas most meals I have are at 40-60% veg with 30% ish of what is on thr plate being atarchy carb. So it makes sense to me to boost up the veg ratio with some sides.

I don’t understand having sides that are just more carb eg chips, jacket potatoes or garlic bread - I Would have those as a side with a meal that was mostly veg / protein if it needed a little carb boost for energy. Pizza really doesn't.

Agree. Bread and potatoes seems redundant.

Sliced veg/crudite, salad and more protein balances things out. Olives go well, too.

Nolongera · 16/08/2023 13:01

Another pizza. Or 2.

spitefulandbadgrammar · 16/08/2023 13:03

Fancy nice pizza: just 0% beer if with DP; wine if with drinkers. Frozen “the kids have been terrible today and up all
night” nasty pizza, oven chips and salad and crisps and pudding and crying.

LookingForFreeDoughnuts · 16/08/2023 13:05

Salad. Occasionally garlic bread but that is a lot of bread in one sitting. Red wine is compulsory.

HedgehogOBrien · 16/08/2023 13:05

Jacket Potato with a pizza sounds absolutely insane to me. I just can't get over that suggestion.

Cluelessasacucumber · 16/08/2023 13:15

Salad, with balasmic
Olives and other antipasti
Sometimes slaw or olive oil drenched grilled veg if we've got an abundance
Basically lovely veg based things with vinegars and olive oil to balance the richness of the pizza.
Never something else bready or carby, that's got to be an American idea.

FloopyZebra · 16/08/2023 13:18

Salad, sometimes I make coleslaw to go with it.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/08/2023 13:19

Fanta and mayo for the crusts.

I once worked with someone whose DH had peas with every meal, including pizza.

TheDuchessOfMN · 16/08/2023 13:26

I’ve just quickly glanced through all the posts and see that we are the only family who eat pasta with pizza Blush

In my defence, it means I eat less pizza!

I agree. If I eat pasta, chips or garlic with pizza I'm still getting the same amount of carbs as I eat less pizza. If I just eat pizza I would eat twice as much pizza.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 16/08/2023 13:50

Garlic bread.

AppleTurnover1000Degrees · 16/08/2023 13:53

So if I had lasagne I would have a small piece of lasagne, a couple of pieces of garlic bread and salad.

rhino12345 · 16/08/2023 14:04

Mayonnaise or ali oli 🙌

I was just going to say pasta as well 😀Sometimes hot, more often cold pasta salad with mushrooms, mixed peppers, herbs and sweetcorn. With Mayonnaise stirred in

Might have chicken goujons, Mozarella sticks, Arancini kinds of things on the side. Always have some kind of dips too

Hufflepods · 16/08/2023 14:35

Coleslaw and cucumber, sometimes carrot sticks and hummus, wine when not pregnant, or every now and then garlic bread.

Globules · 16/08/2023 14:57

So we've got pizza for tea tonight, thanks to this thread 🤣

Puffypuffin · 16/08/2023 19:18

So we've got pizza, salad, garlic dough balls, tomato, basil and mozerella sticks, coleslaw and corn on the cob. And beer. I'm not having folk round and just giving them pizza, however informal it is. However, I am a feeder and I hardly ever eat pizza these days so what the hell. 😂

Corn on the cob sounds like an interesting accompaniment to pizza. I could go for some now!

WhisperingHi · 16/08/2023 19:31

Chips and mayo
