I do as @WutheredOut does. Sometimes fries and dough balls if I'm doing the M&S deal.

My DC usually have chicken too.

mrsfollowill · 16/08/2023 00:16

We have pizza delivered every Friday night- it is the signal of the end of the working week- we are all frazzled and it keeps me sane quite frankly!
A massive G&T and a few slices of pizza is the start of my weekend and has been for - er about the last 25 years! No fannying around with salad - maybe some curly fries on the side if very hungry. A couple of dips- sweet chilli and garlic mayo if pushing the boat out.
I'm the only cook in our house and after maybe 4/5 nights of cooking I'm sick of it- normally eat out another night or have another takeaway. Disclaimer - yes I know we are very lucky to still afford it during this COL crisis- before people jump on me. To be fair we use a local place - £20 tops for 3 working adults- not Dominoes or other expensive places.

Mayo to dip the crusts in

JaukiVexnoydi · 16/08/2023 00:18

Normally the pizza is enough solo but sometimes we get some creamcheese-stuffed chillipeppers and a bag of mixed salad too. Coleslaw occasionally but not often. If I need a dip for crusts I use mayo.

I never have salad with pizza Confused just pizza is fine

CallieQ · 16/08/2023 00:23

Eat it? Confused

ringsaglitter · 16/08/2023 00:23

Some cold meats like raw ham, olives, bread sticks and veg sticks with some dip, and something sparkling like soda water.

This is for thin crust, Italian style pizza

FedUpWithEverything123 · 16/08/2023 00:29

No salad, nothing, just pizza!

Seagullchippy · 16/08/2023 00:29

Chips and garlic bread.

slithytoveisascientist · 16/08/2023 00:44

Chicken goujons, cucumber and mayo

More pizza.

Me too

Guavafish1 · 16/08/2023 02:26

garlic herb sauce, nachos and chicken wings

CarolinaInTheMorning · 16/08/2023 02:41

Salad and beer.

OtterInDisgrace · 16/08/2023 02:53

I’ve never understood chips/wedges with pizza. Even less, garlic bread. You’re already getting bread with toppings - why more bread and carbs? This isn’t from a weight watching point of view; just generic food combinations.

dont know why this post has gone italic.

Wine?

Correct answer. Wine

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 16/08/2023 03:20

Coke, pizza and salad is plenty.

Qilin · 16/08/2023 03:58

Coleslaw
Garlic bread - yes, double carbs! 🤷🏻‍♀️

RabbitsRock · 16/08/2023 04:11

Usually just pizza but when I had pizza out with friends, we ordered some chips to share as well

Groutyonehereagain · 16/08/2023 05:29

Fries.

PrincessHoneysuckle · 16/08/2023 05:40

Coleslaw.

No salad, nothing, just pizza!

Quite.

Pizza (proper thin crust) is a whole food on its own. Carbs, fruit, vegetables, protein and fat.

Leave it the fuck alone. Why the Brits insist on adding food to food makes me so angry. Potato wedges and salad with everything. WHY?

I'll admit I lived in Italy and got on board with the 'three very good ingredients' way of thinking. Not the UK/US 'if it tastes good with three ingredients, add 12 more mostly sugar' attitude.

JaukiVexnoydi · 16/08/2023 06:14

I will add veg/salad/slaw because even with a very thin crust and generous toppings pizza is about 65-70% carbs abd no more than 10% veg, whereas most meals I have are at 40-60% veg with 30% ish of what is on thr plate being atarchy carb. So it makes sense to me to boost up the veg ratio with some sides.

I don’t understand having sides that are just more carb eg chips, jacket potatoes or garlic bread - I Would have those as a side with a meal that was mostly veg / protein if it needed a little carb boost for energy. Pizza really doesn't.

Circumferences · 16/08/2023 06:30

It completely depends on context. Are you entertaining guests or just eating it yourselves at home?
Two different scenarios.

I wouldn't dream of having people round and slapping a pizza down with nothing else to go with it. I would for myself, but that's different.

On the table I'd put out
Pizza- enough for sharing, not a whole pizza per person
A salad bowl for sharing with cherry tomatoes and basil
Side dishes to share out eg spicy prawns, spiced potato wedges or garlic bread, potato salad or coleslaw
Sauces like garlic mayo, ketchup
Wine, beer and sparkling mineral water with elderflower or something like that.
