Never donated to this farce and very bloomin pleased I didn’t

WizardinTraining · 15/08/2023 19:51

Awful woman - I live near her and she’s not popular locally

drpet49 · 15/08/2023 19:53

Hannah Ingram-Moore and her family are shameless. Disgusting people.

RudsyFarmer · 15/08/2023 20:03

I didn’t donate either. Is the inference that the family kept all the money, some of it or just that they’re profiting from the fathers name?

GiddyUpH · 15/08/2023 20:05

Are they related to the Who Wamts to be a Millionaire debacle?

GiddyUpH · 15/08/2023 20:05

Was that always the case or only after everything came out in the wash ? I always thought they looked insufferable (including Capt Tom and what he said about his first wife) but never would have said this openly.

BarelyLiterate · 15/08/2023 20:10

I can honestly say that her charity fund foundation scam has never had a single penny of my money. The whole thing stank from the start.

TheThingIsYeah · 15/08/2023 20:15

This type of chicanery with charity funds is probably quite common. Cadging a free holiday to Barbados maybe not so much.

ParkheadParadise · 15/08/2023 20:16

The whole thing is a load of PISH.
Anyone who donated in the first place was fucking bonkers🤷‍♀️

Whiskerson · 15/08/2023 20:25

Just to clarify, because I think this is a common misunderstanding...

The £30mil that Capt Tom raised in lockdown went direct to an existing charity called NHS Charities Together, which distributed it to different hospital charities across the UK. If you gave to his famous JustGiving page, that's where the money went. His daughter never had the chance to touch it.

His daughter then went on to set up the Capt Tom Foundation, which never really did much fundraising and you almost certainly haven't donated to it.

WineNoMore20 · 15/08/2023 20:26

if the reports are true, then the whole thing from the beginning was a deliberate PR campaign, devised and then promoted by the Ingram Moores .
The only redeeming element are the funds that were raised and directly paid to the NHS charities.

Fantina · 15/08/2023 20:31

I understand that people like money, I don’t understand why anyone would do such things when they know it is likely there will be scrutiny. Things like planning applications are in the public domain and get pored over.

Surely the thought of these stories coming out would make people behave even if they would prefer not to?

HellonHeels · 15/08/2023 20:34

What did captain Tom say about his first wife?

Livelovebehappy · 15/08/2023 20:34

Have to say I found some of Captain Tom’s interviews very cringey and inappropriate. But he was not called out on it because he was elderly and raising money for the NHS.

Hmm… Call me a horrible old cynic, but I’m going to wait until we see what else the media dig up before being quite so sure about where any of the money went. The whole thing absolutely stinks.

SophiaElise · 15/08/2023 20:37

I feel sorry for the people who donated into this obvious farce. The whole thing was highly sus from the start.

Giving money to Just Giving means it goes straight to the charity. The person raising the money doesn't get anywhere near it. Thats why JG is just for charities whereas GoFundMe gives the money to the fundraiser for distribution to whatever person they choose.

Of course it was, but the Great British Public was stupid enough to fall for some very slick PR. I'm sure he was a nice chap, but even at the time the whole charade was nauseating, sentimental nonsense.

AutumnCrow · 15/08/2023 20:47

I don't give (and didn't give) to 'NHS Charities Together' either. We have local charities where I live who use every penny directly on 'service users' (i.e. people who are not doing too well in life), and they can have my time, money and stuff.

This woman symbolises quite a lot that is currently wrong with charity regulation (or lack of) in the UK. Look at the Mermaids farce.

Packageholiday · 15/08/2023 20:47

I don't understand what she has done wrong if just giving is protected

MillWood85 · 15/08/2023 20:49

People thought the money was going to the NHS itself.

It was a massive con from the word go. I'm glad I didn't donate a penny.

shugarsuz · 15/08/2023 20:54

There's a lot of Go Fund Me's, and some public big ones, many of which have some quite suspicious activity on - I think more will come out on a lot of these over time....

The money from just giving went straight to NHS together charity as PP said

she then set up the Capt Tom foundation to trade on the name which didn’t get any of the 30 million but which did for example do a deal with a Gin company to use the capt Tom brand and image. Any money raised by deals like this was meant to be distributed to other charities but very little was ever paid out. She & her husband were trustees and she paid herself £85,000 a year as ‘interim chief executive’

manticlimactic · 15/08/2023 20:56

I lost real life friends over calling this out at the time. Plus the grief on SM

Feel quite smug now.
