Can anyone else just not stand Emma Kenny as a presenter?Everyone but me seems to love her.

I mean, she may be a lovely person of course-but I cringe listening to her.

Some things she says are so questionable. E.G I listened to a bit of a youtube she did regarding Star Hobson (linked to on thread about same) and she says about how Brockhill's 'masculinity' is part of the whole thing. And that her being a bouncer (not the correct term regardless!) shows her favouring violence. I know many people (male and female) who do security who do it because they want to protect (I accept some are in it for the wrong reasons but, blanket statement) and are great people, and some very masculine presenting women who are very gentle in their personalities-Brockhill is a horrendous person of course but I feel saying this is part of why, is a real insult to some people.

I've seen her say other things too but none come to mind currently, I'll try to think-I don't want to watch her in anything else or I would use her content to jog my memory.

She sounds almost drunk on some of her material too.

Some of it is just my own issues-the way she over-gesticulates and is SO over the top in her describing of things is a trait that irritates me but I know that's just me!

I find her content very mixed - she throws in too much opinion over fact for my taste, and is always saying how much she wishes awful things would happen to the perpetrators which feels childish in context.
Much prefer Elenor Neale and have recently discovered Georgia Marie who is excellent but very new. If you don’t mind American true crime Kendall Rae is not bad.

I’m completely missing the point of the thread, but I just googled her to make sure it was the same person I thought it was and noticed her year of birth. My very first thought was that you were obviously mistaken about her age because nobody born in the early seventies could be anywhere near 50. Perhaps I should employ her counselling services in coming to terms with my age! 😳

I know right?
I can't quite come to.terms with n being born in 1973 and being 50 myself in a couple of months 😳

Packageholiday · 16/08/2023 08:52

@HunkaMunkasslipper what do you mean she's reactive ie she gets emotional?

FatNoMoreSue · 16/08/2023 08:58

She constantly misuses words, which makes her sound as if she’s trying to sound cleverer than she is.

i used to watch her a lot but there was something she used to use a lot - I think it might be “per se” - in the wrong context and it jarred.

She also seems to relish describing crimes/how she feels about things too much. I bet she loved misery lit as a teenager.

whereisthecheese · 16/08/2023 09:20

What @skilpadde said. She isn't a psychologist and has absolutely no right calling herself one. I also think it's really invalidating to counsellors - why can't she call herself her actual job title?

GigiAnnna · 16/08/2023 10:05

I like Emma Kenny and the fact she says her opinion and shows emotion. What I can't stand are true crime youtubers who sit there doing their make up on camera while talking about awful murders. One mentioned on this thread always seems to smirk and laugh when covering her content and I think it makes light of the crimes.

Yep, this.

HunkaMunkasslipper · 16/08/2023 15:15

Not so much the emotion just the DRAMATICS!

I can't remember what it was about but I did see something once where she said 'He tried to take an overdose by hanging himself!!' 🤓

I don't think her being a counsellor and being open about it would be conducive to her ways of presenting and things she says about (admittedly terrible!) people like, she wants them dead or is glad they've been treated badly. Not that counsellors aren't allowed a personal opinion, but they're literally trained to look past behaviour and see the person. That may be why she isn't open about being one.

Probably a zombie thread now but I'm just wondering if any of you think she's ripped off Stephanie Harlowe and covers loads of cases Eleanor already has?
(Also molly westbrook who's from England who has the cutest accent is a really good youtuber, she's sincere without being sickly and very empathic to the victims and their family.)
But aye, I feel emma has kind of done pinched parts of Stephanie harlowes demeanour and I cannae put my finger on why because they're not the same, but Emma definitely seems influenced by Stephanie.

Gonna have to Google ...

Makes two of us.

MonsteraMama · 19/01/2024 21:19

It's probably incredibly petty of me but I had to stop watching her because of her constant incorrect use of "per se". Made my brain itch.

She does come across as being full of herself, most definitely!

Lwrenagain · 19/01/2024 21:37

@Ellie525 she mentions working with teenagers loads, I thought it would have been in some kind of psychiatric capacity. She has a way of making you paint a picture without a full description but realistically she could have worked with teenagers whilst being one herself in mcdonalds.

Credit where its due tho, having a baby at 50 she looks fantastic.

Not sure how I came across this post but it did intrigue me! I really like the detail that she seems to provide, there must be a lot of research that goes into doing the posts that she does twice a week without fail! Saying that I do think that she tries to be very funny and thinks she’s funnier than she is lol. I did assume by her comments that she was a well qualified psychologist with a lot of experience with offenders and working with children and youths, but maybe that’s wrong!

Lwrenagain · 15/03/2024 07:51

She is defo a mumsnetter, sometimes she uses very mn phrases, incandescent with rage etc, em if you're reading hen, what foundation do you use? Help me out, i make milk look tanned and everything goes orange on me. We're shade twins. 😁

She and I disagree on a few things, the mccanns/Lucy letby for 2, yet mostly I learn from her insights and when she talks about her wee dad, I find myself welling up like a massive fanny! My dad was like one of the perps she talks about tbh, evil man, pure evil and the love she has for her dad is wholesome and he sounded so nice. I have an uncle with psychosis who is harmless and lovely, I'm grateful his delusions are just things about dating Kylie Minogue or partying with Keith Richards etc, nowt scary. If my wee uncle wrote an autobiography based on his delusions, it would be the greatest life to read about 💔

Anyway yep, I hope she has comfort in knowing before his illness took him, she had a very good dad, a privilege denied to many

Ibelieveinfairness · 28/05/2024 13:27

I think Emma Kenny highlights horrific failings in so many areas that hopefully it will help to end these horrific crimes and the failings of authorities. If she can contribute in any way to doing this then I will continue to support her.
I must admit you have to seek out/ subscribe to watch her posts so if you don't like her or her posts then don't 🙄

Anitaalcock · 24/08/2024 14:22

Obviously Emma possesses qualities that you do not possess and it is that what you probably find irritating. Emma is a highly intelligent woman, a great presenter and a genuinely nice person who helps thousands of victims of crime and trauma. Let's give the woman some credit!

Lesley1000000 · 23/10/2024 03:11

I can't stand her now.

Lesley1000000 · 23/10/2024 03:13

I used to like her. She is a good presenter, but she isn't a qualified Psychologist. She has a degree, but she definitely implies she is more than she is

Lesley1000000 · 23/10/2024 03:15

She does and she isn't a Forensic or Clinical Psychologist

Lesley1000000 · 23/10/2024 03:21

What a condescending comment, saying she possesses qualities another person doesn't, just because the OP finds her irritating. Fair enough, say if you don't agree, but it's rich saying give her some credit, when you've given absolutely no credit to the OP's opinion in your first sentence.

lololulu · 23/10/2024 06:27

She uses the term "child porn" which is real hate of mine but even more so in her profession.
