Fun discussion coming up at my reading group, but my first thought (invisibility) I realised could be a bit disturbing! Might see or hear something you'd rather not! Any ideas?

Yup. Including ancient ones, and sign lang. Speak, read, write...

It’s the perfect superpower. All the others would either make you stand out a mile and create massive hassle, or you’d stand a good chance of hearing/seeing something that is going to upset you or put you in a horrible moral dilemma.

Extreme polyglotism would just make you seem massively clever, and to only a few people at a time. The perfect under-the-radar superpower 🦸🏼‍♀️

This could be a tricky one though. Imagine if everyone had this. It would be great if pets could tell us when they were in pain, and where it hurts, but for everything else, it could result in massive changes in the way humans live - if cows could tell us their thoughts as they were going to slaughter, or our pets told us that actually they wanted to be set free...

To be able to talk to buildings

This would be interesting. I'm white but watching DH navigate the world as a big, fit, manly man is very interesting and I'd love to try it. He gets away with murder and no one says anything.

I'd have a nice and tidy living as a translator, could travel wonderfully...

To manipulate time. Forwards, backwards, freeze it etc

What on earth would you ask them?

I'd like to be able to deliver a small but effective electric shock to people by flaring my nostrils just a tad.

People who cut me up on roundabouts, for example, or make nasty comments 'as a joke', people who get to the top of an escalator and then just stop right between the handrails at the top...

You could go to the scene of historical events or crimes and find out what really happened.

To be able to fall asleep on demand. My DH already has this superpower!

But seriously if offered the choice I'd want transformation. I could always look amazing, without having to diet or exercise! Plus, if I could de-age myself or fix my own injuries that's effectively immortal into the bargain.

The ability to see into the future. Then I would put massive bets on and win them all.

Apparition. The ability to move instantly to another place would be wonderful!

You'd be praying buildings would have sense. I can imagine convos going along the lines of something Pratchett-esque: incoherent rants off a Grade I about someone who lived in it 200 years earlier and changed a lintel, or maybe begging you for a complete facelift eg sleek glass and marble foyer and a helipad like it's seen on the new mansion opposite.

Singing. I’d like to be able to sing anything I can imagine. Otherwise flight.

Super health

I’ve thought about this way too much. I always think healing. It would have to be healing. But then how would that work? Could I heal literally anything? Would that mean I could keep people alive forever? Where would it end? And then would I feel obliged to spend all my hours healing, because there are so many people that need it? How would I triage?! It’s beginning to sound like a nightmare!
So then I think teleportation. I’d love to be able to take a lunch break in Bali or Cornwall or Sweden. But I’d need to be able to see where I’m teleporting first, in case I’m teleporting into a fire or something. And wouldn’t I regret the lack of healing when a loved one gets ill - or I do?
