Taken them for a one night trip and a few days away, both in Uk.
Been to see a show but that was a Christmas present from a relative
Been to a Family Fun Day that wasn’t fun
Cinema
Free art activity at an art gallery
Family activities with free cake at a church
Dragged them to shops they didn’t want to go to
Played board games
Let them stare at screens for too long while I had some peace and pulled myself together
Left them with grandparents while I went to work
Let them go to the park together while I tidied up in peace

They are 8 and 12, DC1 didn’t join in with all these things and met up with her friends instead

Bovrilla · 13/08/2023 21:36

Weekend away with grandparents
Zoo
National trust
Local attractions (activity trail, castle)
Baking
Local park

This week there's a Wizarding experience thing on locally I'll take them to. Hoping to get a cheeky few days away before end of hols but need to find someone who'll have the dog!

Ohdofuckofdear · 13/08/2023 21:37

Nothing so far and I do feel very guilty but we've been dealing with something huge so had that to deal with first.

So far DDs been swimming with her Dad.
Been into town with her 2 best friends for lunch and to shop.

This week coming were making up for it.

Going to Thorpe park.

Going to the Cinema.

Going shopping for school stuff and then having lunch at a food market/festival.

Then the rest of the holidays
Planning a day in London.

Going to the New Forest.

Having a meal out(there's 8 of us our older DC are all adults and have they're own places)and can't wait.

Taking DD clothes shopping, out for lunch and to get her hair done.

Thinking of having a few days away in the UK and still thinking what to do for the rest of the holidays.

A trip to the theatre

Cinema with a friend to see TMNT

Lots of park trips

Lots of play dates

Blackberry picking a couple of times (always a favourite)

Sleepovers in each others bedrooms (again massively popular)

Tons of arts and crafts this year as all three have decided they are keen

Lots of film afternoons on the sofa with snacks

Baking

Seeing family

A trip to town on the bus

Planning a theme park trip and a NT visit next week.

Planning a few more play dates and hopefully a paddling pool party (weather permitting) before they head back to school.

We're in Scotland so had a couple of weeks head start. 1 kid, aged 10. He's had training camp for one of his sports for 5 days (not residential). We've been caravanning at 3 different sites (loch, river, beach), been to see Barbie and Mission Impossible with meals out (we live in a small rural town so that's pretty much full days out), he's been to a PGL activity place for 4 days 3 nights, we've been on a few long bike rides and had a couple of days of paddleboarding, he also learned to sail on a 2 day course near one of the campsites we were at. We hiked up Ben Macdui. He's had a couple of days of sports camp and got another 2 day sailing course. We've learned to solve a rubiks cube which took bloody ages. He's played the PS5 and I've dipped in and out with that. We've played some board games. We've driven my Dad to some hospital appointments. I've given him jobs to do. There have been boys round at the house raiding the fridge some days and they go out on their bikes or to the park for a few hours. I feel like I'm run ragged trying to do things to make the holidays interesting while working too (flexi), he's a nice kid and appreciates things and never complains. But how has he still managed to play 20-30 hours of Fortnite some weeks?!

GigiAnnna · 13/08/2023 21:41

A week away at a UK seaside resort, been to a local free outdoor playground that puts activities on a few times a week and where they can see their friends, a local fun day on the park and trips to the local park and to visit family. We will hopefully have a few days out to some localish beaches before they go back to school

forevercurious · 13/08/2023 21:48

I have 2 small children under the age of 4 and a stepson who is 10 and with us every weekend.

so far we have:
family holiday for 5 days to the seaside - beach, swimming, sea life centre, crazy golf, arcades, rides.

wider family gathering at a country park.

picnic and a play date in the park with my friends and their children.

children had a day trip to a different seaside with their grandparents.

DS went to Duxford Air Museum with a grandparent.

DSS went to the zoo with an aunt and uncle.

Trip to the sunflower field

kids festival

then the usual library, parks, baking.

I work 3 days a week so my children are with their grandparents / at nursery so we don’t have the whole 6 weeks off. A few more meet up with friends organised for my days off of work, so much more I wanted to do but fitting it all in is hard around work.

164tI21 · 13/08/2023 21:49

Interesting to write it all down. Sort of feels like we havent done much so adding it all up has been good. We both work full time and only had one week off so far, juggled the rest between both of us and the grandparents.
Week in Germany
Week in Holiday Club
Birthday party
Day out at a theme park
Staying over at grandparents for a few days during the week.
Picnic in the park
Going to a massive playground
Going to splash fountains with friends
Visiting a stable
Playing in the park with friends
Playing at the beach
Crabbing
Going to a castle
Going to an old funfair
Playdates with friends twice
Meeting a cousin
Swimming

IForgotOurSong · 13/08/2023 21:51

Music festival at the beginning but that was my time off work so now struggling to fit some activities round hours but so far they’ve done, holiday club (2 mornings per week) friends round for play dates, swimming, bought passes for local farm park which was a big outlay but they’ve been lots of days during the holidays so far so worth it, art and craft at the library, free activities provided by the local council, time on tablets etc, lunch at Greggs, shopping centre to spend some pocket money.

Before the end of the holidays I’d like to take them on the train, spend time at the beach, do some water sport, visit our local big city and do museums and/or city farm.

Loub55 · 13/08/2023 21:53

CurlewKate · 13/08/2023 19:40

I've been for a weekend in Prague, 2 comedy shows and 2 picnics. And watched Good Omens. And they've made me several Martinis. Oh- did I forget to mention? They are 26 and 22.....🤣

Brilliant. I don't want to wish the time away with my little ones, but I do look forward to things like this 😁

Tisfortired · 13/08/2023 21:54

Blackpool pleasure beach
Few park trips
Day out to our local city centre to sample Knoops
Formby beach when it was warm last week

Still to come, Operation Ouch poo exhibition and watching Elemental at the cinema. Oh he has a play date lined up next week and going to watch football with his dad and grandad.

Im on mat leave at the moment so money is tight luckily he’s happy enough playing out with his friends next door most of the time!

TicTac80 · 13/08/2023 22:02

Hmmmm, not a huge amount so far (I work FT but shifts)! DC1 has hung out with friends. DC2 has had playdates/sleepovers. I've taken them out to cinema once and on bike rides (when weather hasn't been crap!!). DC2 has swimming lessons (which I take her to when I'm not rostered to work). We've done the usual thing of getting appointments for opticians and dentist done and dusted. I'm on annual leave from this coming weekend, and we're going camping.

snowballsinhell · 13/08/2023 22:09

Mmm..

Turkey
Portugal
Sent son to Cub camp for 4 nights
Sent son to summer scheme for 2 weeks

Decafflatteplease · 13/08/2023 22:25

Meal out (ditto)
Trip to milkshake parlour (ditto)

Train into big city to visit museum

Baking afternoon we will definitely do this

First two weeks we were in Turkey.

Been working since then but she’s been to holiday club and to a play gym with a nice outdoor area with her grandma twice. Weekends she’s been swimming, to an agricultural show and riding her new bike.

Ive got some odd days coming up so planning a trip to an adventure park with her friend, a theme park, the beach and the park. Oh and she wants to “climb a mountain” so we’ll do Pen Y Ghent or Mam Tor or something. Actually quite fancy a trip to Matlock as we’ve never been to the Heights of Abraham yet.
