What have you done with your children so far this school holiday ?

OP posts:
Summerwashout · 13/08/2023 20:37

@SnapBang can you say where you are?

Not much op, I feel bad to be honest. We have had the odd one day out here and there but in definitely going to to to more small breaks away next year.

Mine fall into ruts and patterns very easily.

Summerwashout · 13/08/2023 20:38

We are going to be busy in oct half tern though so..

Hellinthesuburbs · 13/08/2023 20:42

@mamaduckbone yes there’s plenty of that. It’s been raining though and I don’t drive. Ds is phobic of rain and doesn’t do libraries because he hates books ( he actually attacks them and throws and chews them) he doesn’t have any friends. He will play really nicely with other children (usually much younger) at the playground but of course no one’s there because it’s wet.
Im just trying to stay alive now, I’ve been in tears every day.
I also have no friends in this area or any family that I speak to so we’re on our own.

Park x a million
Several beaches - live on the coast, and coast path walks.
cinema
swimming pool
trampoline park
play dates
Lots of loafing, TV, gaming etc.
We have 2 UK short breaks, one with family and another in a Premier inn in another city.
Aiming for a day at the funfair or theme park if finances allow.

Foldingchair · 13/08/2023 20:45

Week away.
Cinema.
Uniform shopping.

Dc1 says that will do, as he needs gaming time.
Dc2 been out a bit with friends.

But it's game over now, as I've broken my ankle. Kids will now be on slave duties for the foreseeable.

Glitterbaby17 · 13/08/2023 20:46

Holiday in Cornwall, some holiday clubs as I’ve been working, weekend with the Grandparents, a couple play dates, the park, walk and an ice cream, swimming lessons.

We are going to a festival next weekend, and have tickets to see the Smeds and the Smoos just before my eldest goes back to school. Will prob do National trust near
us with a picnic on my day off.

Sceptre86 · 13/08/2023 20:47

We went to softplay whilst at home, several trips to the shops, playing in our garden and walks. We then went to Scarborough for a few days, went to the beach everyday, to the sealife centre, visited flamingo land and then to Manchester to visit family. Towards the end of the holidays we went back to Manchester for a week (to spend time with nan and grandad) and then spent a few days in Birmingham. We went to Drayton manor, shopping at the Bullring and the jewellery Quarter. We are Scottish so our kids are back to school this coming week.

Crunchymum · 13/08/2023 20:50

10 day holiday (UK)
Cinema x2
Theatre
Indoor inflatable centre
Nature reserve
Canal walk (several, we live virtually on the canal)
Bike rides (most days)
Zoo
Woods
Local parks
Splash park

Think we've been out everyday but some days have been more 'exciting' than others.

Crunchymum · 13/08/2023 20:52

Forgot to say one DC had a weekly intensive swimming course (30 minutes every morning) and the older two swam whilst DC3 had thier lesson.

Ambi · 13/08/2023 20:55

Very little sadly. DH and I have been working FT and completely renovating the DCs bedrooms, they've been busy playing out with friends and having sleepovers. We have a few nights away in a cottage next weekend, it'll likely piss it down but it'll be a break.

mogtheforg3tfulcat · 13/08/2023 20:55

Also in Scotland so at the end of the holidays. We did:
Swimming
Cinema
Fruit picking
A week up in the Highlands with grandparents
Park
Lots of Lego (new interest for dd2)
A few days a school holiday club
A week at dance camp
Day trip to Alnwick gardens and the new play area there
Play dates
Beach trips (fewer than anticipated due to crap weather)
Soft play (only once due to extortionate pricing -£32 for two kids for 90 mins!)
Summer reading challenge at the library
Wander around the street performers at the Edinburgh fringe

We've definitely been limited by money this year but managed to do quite a bit!

Scoose · 13/08/2023 20:58

A few days with family in wales and not much else. My dd has asd and just likes pottering about at home and my dh died suddenly at the end of may so its taking all of my energy just to get through the day

ThreeRingCircus · 13/08/2023 20:58

A trip to stay with grandparents for three nights.

A couple of playdates so far and have another two planned in.

Holiday club for two weeks.

Pottering about.....a couple of trips to cafés, garden centres, the local animal sanctuary etc.

Loads of chilling at home and too much screen time.

Camping holiday next week!

Just normal stuff really. I wish the weather had been better but it's been nice to just chill.

Goldbar · 13/08/2023 21:00

Locked them in the cellar.

I clearly read the thread title differently to everyone else on here.

fullbloom87 · 13/08/2023 21:02

Several trips to the beach, forest.
Paultons park
Titanic museum
Shopping trip

fullbloom87 · 13/08/2023 21:03

Pressed send before I finished

Zoo
Off to swanage tomorrow and lulworth cove on Tuesday.
And next Wednesday we're driving to Spain for a week.

It's been a lovely holiday so far.

Judellie · 13/08/2023 21:06

Mine are teenagers, 16 and 19
We've been inter railing for 18 days in July across Italy (Rome, Pompeii, Venice), Switzerland, Germany and Denmark. It's my youngest's GCSE year so we had the extra holiday time, rather than just the six weeks holiday.
Ended up getting a train on day 19 too as our flight from London to Newcastle was cancelled (ruddy BA. Had hassle with them losing luggage both ways too).
I'm mostly working now so they've been entertaining themselves. I'm off Thursdays and weekends.
Been doing a bit of the Shaun the Sheep trail with them, done Eldon Square, Great North Museum, Gosforth Park and Airport for that and they've done the Quayside and some other places themselves.
Had a meal at Chiquito's with my daughter as it's our favourite restaurant (dh and ds not keen on Mexican)
Won a weekend pass with Northern Trains so used that last weekend, went to Carlisle, met Andy, a friend of dh in Warrington, stayed overnight in a Travelodge then visited Liverpool and rode on their new trams on Sunday. Warrington was WET, we spent a LOT of time in Wetherspoons and at Andy's golf club keeping dry!
Usually on Sundays go to church then take stuff to my mum's to cook Sunday dinner and have that with her as she's more or less housebound now.
Boght a new bike and have managed one very short bike ride with my daughter.
Met my sister, niece and bil one day and had lunch with them, then we all went to my mum's.
Now confined to quarters due to blisters on the sole of my left foot - I cannot do anything with them really!
One is away to Lancaster for the weekend with her friend and the other has been to see Mamma Mia 2 at Screen on the Green - there are free films in Newcastle City Centre throughout the summer.
DD wants me to go shopping with her for clothes for sixth form but it depends how easy or otherwise it is for me to walk!

SnapBang · 13/08/2023 21:07

@Summerwashout South-West France. It’s been ideal with our young DC. Calm, not many tourists where we are, beautiful beaches. The DC enjoyed the excitement of the flight but I’m tempted to drive over next summer and do a longer stint and travel down the coast a bit more. Even though we hire an Air BnB, it’s actually worked out really inexpensive once here as the DC like just playing in the pool and aren’t wanting constant trips to soft play / days out.

QueenofLouisiana · 13/08/2023 21:07

Dropped him at Heathrow. Answered texts about how to find the bus home from Heathrow, 2 weeks later.
Responded to WhatsApp messages about street food in Bangkok.
Looked at a million cars on auto trader.
Taught him to shop in Aldi on a budget.
Taught him to cook simple (cheap)meals.

This week we will apply for a university car permit, pick up a level results and celebrate the start of a new chapter- whatever that looks like.

Summerwashout · 13/08/2023 21:11

@Judellie the interaiiling sounds absolutely amazing

Nodeepdiving · 13/08/2023 21:11

dressedforcomfort · 13/08/2023 19:51

1 x Pond dipping and 1 x den building with our local Wildlife Trust

Trip to London

4 playdates

DS did 3 days at a sports camp

Also an afternoon in town to ride buses pointlessly (DS is a massive bus fanatic.)

Thank you so much, I feel a lot less alone knowing that there is another mum out there who just gets the bus for no good reason other than to placate an utterly obsessed child😅 Mine is 2.5 and sometimes wakes up in the middle of the night and shouts "want bus"🙄😂

IsThisIt2021 · 13/08/2023 21:16

We’re on our first day of our week long holiday. It’s the youngests 6th birthday this week, which we’re away for but they don’t mind as they get “three birthdays” (day before we went, birthday and day after we return). We haven’t done that much apart from that, relaxed at home, few long walks and a couple of meals out. This week will drain the finances but hopefully it will be a good week for all. I’ve still got the rest of the uniforms to sort out!

Soundsmadeup · 13/08/2023 21:17

Wow how the other half live!. I've worked all through the holidays, so my kids have been home with Big Brother babysitting. They've played out in the street on their bikes, football with the neighbour's. Lots of screen time. We've been to the park in the evenings a few times and a bit of river swimming. Roll on back to school

MyBrownEyedHandsomeBoy · 13/08/2023 21:20

Park x2 (one of them had a splash pad which was a great day)
Picnic
Soft play x3
Plenty garden time
Farm visit
Swimming

Silkierabbit · 13/08/2023 21:32

Mine and 16 (DS) and 17 (DD)

We are off to Mauritius on holiday and will do lots of snorkelling, swimming, tropical gardens, windsurfing, kayaking there.

DH went to cinema with DD.

DD is working a lot and doing A levels, she does punting tours and comes home and tells me all about those.

DS is out of hospital after 8 months and he is mainly gaming and I do lots of meetings for him.
