Do you say Mum or Mom and where do you come from?

I apologise if this has been done before. I have always said Mum or Mummy and thought everyone did. On these threads I often see Mom or Mommy. I know this is the US version but it seems that it is more than that. I have assumed these posts have been written by AI or similar using US English but maybe that is not the case so please can you tell me what you call your mother and where you are from.

My cousin's from Birmingham say mom. Pretty sure it's very common for people from that neck of the woods to use mom.
I use mum. I'm from Scotland.

BigLicks · 12/08/2023 16:06

Mam. I'm from Northumberland.

Spidey66 · 12/08/2023 16:07

Mum, from London.

ToughFuss · 12/08/2023 16:07

Ma or mum. Mother darling if I’m being annoying. Devon.

OwlBabiesAreCute · 12/08/2023 16:08

Mum. Born in the north, grew up in the south (of England).

BeckyBlue · 12/08/2023 16:09

I come from a small pocket of West Yorkshire where Mom is used. Not an americanism, my mother called my granny Mom, and my granny called her mother Mom.

JellyfishandShells · 12/08/2023 16:09

Mum or Mummy - South East. Mom or Mommy does sound very American to me. Mam or Mammy in quite a few parts of the UK and Eire .

afaloren · 12/08/2023 16:09

Mom, I’m from the West Midlands.

Moonopoly · 12/08/2023 16:10

Mom. It’s a midlands thing NOT just an Americanism

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 12/08/2023 16:11

It's Mam in the North Easst. possibly other places too.

Garman · 12/08/2023 16:13

Mom, from Ireland, from the Irish word Mamaí/a Mhamaí/a Mhaim, not an Americanism.

Rosesandstars · 12/08/2023 16:13

Mum (South East) but lived in the Midlands for several years and found it really weird that people said 'Mom'.

Gatekeeper · 12/08/2023 16:14

Mammy then mam in S.w Durham

RedRum27 · 12/08/2023 16:15

I say Mom and I’m from the Black Country. I remember growing up with local card shops selling cards specifically with Mom
not Mum.

Itsvalentino · 12/08/2023 16:15

We say Mom/Mommy, West Midlands. Mum just sounds weird to me, it feels like I’m forcing the word 😂

StarPotential · 12/08/2023 16:16

Mam South Wales

Devilsmommy · 12/08/2023 16:16

Mom, west midlands. Mum or mummy sounds posh to me 🤣🤣🤣

Ilovelurchers · 12/08/2023 16:17

From the West Mids and pretty much everyone round here says "mom".

MissDollyMix · 12/08/2023 16:18

I’m not from the midlands but I always think Mom is a brummie thing. Mam is normal up in the north-east where I live. Mum just standard English.

EllieQ · 12/08/2023 16:18

Mam (from Cumbria, with Irish grandparents ), though as I got older I started saying Mum. Can’t remember why!

ymemanresu · 12/08/2023 16:19

Another from West Midlands here. Snotty daughter's stepmom tried to correct 😂

Gymmum82 · 12/08/2023 16:19

Mom from the midlands. It’s a midlands thing. Not just American

PuppyMonkey · 12/08/2023 16:19

Mum - from the East Midlands and nobody would say mom like a West Midlands person round here.

DonttouchthatLarry · 12/08/2023 16:20

I'm from the West Midlands and say 'mom' but write 'mum' 😊
