Firstly- I've been on MN for 100 years or so, I'm not the poo troll (but then I would say that...)

I'm looking for advice from like-boweled people please? I'm off on hols next week, and wondering what I can do/prep/take to mitigate Holiday Arse?

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, its the stupid, annoying phenomena that means my perfectly functional butt takes one look down an unfamiliar pan and goes 'NOPE'.

To emphasise. it's not a choice- I DGAF about being alluring for my husband, any mystique within our marriage fecked off a long time ago! I eat well, lots of water, fruit, and veg, but the whole digestive shebang just slows down and I spend a lot of precious holiday time feeling bloated, sluggish and crap Sad

Anyone sympathise, and have any ideas that can help? I fly in a few days, so could start something now if it would make a difference?

Thank you!

Don't eat loads on the plane or before the flight. I swear flying really buggers up your insides. Liberal booze, water and coffee. Ease into the food! I used to struggle but this holiday had the opposite problem and for a week after coming home.

You mean, up the shitter? 🙈

Very much so.

Dear Jesus! I’ll pass on that, it is a very round piece of soap here.. 😂🙈

This thread has given me many laughs. In particular @EddieVeddersfoxymop 's contribution. And the ernest/helpful posts are also great. Holiday Arse is a terrible affliction. I'm going to London in a few days and will be sharing a room with my best friend but even though we're comfortable with each other, I know my arse will have other nefarious plans. Trusty Laxido will be coming with me.

I eat prunes and take lactulose. Loads of water and fruit.

Was away this weekend - nothing. Through the door, voila. BigJob. So frustrating. We're planning a round the world trip. I hope i cure myself before that. Can you imagine 9 months ....

You're welcome. All part of the service.

I cannot believe how many of us there are on holiday with arses full of crap that has nowhere to go.

I too have tried " inpecting the foyer" like another poster in a desperate attempt to release something -anything- but it's firmly parked and going nowhere. Even trying to subliminally tell my colon that this particular loo is perfect, it refuses to cooperate.

I worry that the backed up gas will be a fire hazard on the flight home 🙈

TenacityWins · 15/08/2023 08:48

Take a few dates to eat before bed for some morning action.

Thisisnotmyname2022 · 15/08/2023 19:43

9 days later and the bowels have released. They just won’t stop now! 7 times today, and it’s only 2:41pm here! It has gone from feeling like I need to push out a watermelon to a hose pipe that’s been let loose! I can’t believe I’m contemplating taking Imodium after the week I have just had!

CrapBucket · 15/08/2023 19:47

Take a photo of the view from your current familiar loo. Then look at it when you’re on holiday. Well it works looking a photo of your baby when expressing so it might work for bowels too…

Update

For anyone interested Grin

So it's the end of day two, and there's been a tiny bit of <ahem> movement. Not the full clear out of a normal poo, but a little...which tbh is a massive improvement on previous holidays, abroad and UK. And yes, it was in the foyer loos Grin

I've taken many of these tips on board, including chomping on fybogel tabs and magnesium tabs also.

Tips on fruit, water and movement were appreciated but honestly, I have the same issues when I'm away from home, no matter what my diet, no matter what the weather, and no matter what the activity level. It's not restricted to just being abroad etc

So thank you to everyone who's posted, and I hope others find the thread useful also!
