My first thought was social media/phones. The concept of a phone is straightforward enough but if you were to go back and describe social media to someone it really is such an odd thing for us all to subscribe to. Like the concept is you just all come on talking to yourself and post a picture with a caption then await people to like it. It’s really quite embarrassing when you think of it like that!

Smart phones. I’d definitely be reading more fiction if I didn’t have one.

Musical theatre was a close second, though

Social media for sure! The fact that the creators of all these apps don't let their own kids use them speaks volumes. It really is toxic and addictive and unfortunately we've all been brainwashed into thinking that we need it. Myself included! 🤦🏾‍♀️

Definitely smart phones. Think their use is something which has fundamentally changed the way we interact with each other and the world, and not for the better.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 07/08/2023 23:12

Mobile phones. As useful as they are in so many ways (and I'm posting from one) I can't help but think they're a bit of a curse.

CluedoFace · 07/08/2023 23:15

The microchip. If we didn’t have that, we wouldn’t have automatic weapons. Smart phones, etc. The digital age generally

I very often wonder how much simpler life must have been when you went to bed tired, because of strenuous work and lots of fresh air, looking forward to the fact that you would be seeing your friends next Tuesday, which you’d already arranged in person a day or two ago.

@CluedoFace

If you mean when most people worked on farms then the answer is it was backbreaking and shit, full of starvation and disease. Which is why when the industrial revolution came everyone fucked off to cities.
